just got scripted vals again. 6 months ago i had a small prob with benzos i was taken xanax temaz & valium all i wanted.

but since ive started again (only vals, dont wanna touch the others again) ive been enegenic. im not calm, im actually assertive.
& i wanna continue taken em even if its just a pack a month.. just afew in stressful siutaions

got a script for ssris. but im looking for assertivness. not happy cuz i feel like its the confident ppl who get things done.

anyways is it just the addiction talkin or do u think it can actually be a practical medication? or will it just lead to more trouble then it did before i started

just want opinions of weather ppl think vals can actually be used as a practical med to help get emselfs back on track.

Higher doses- say 15 mg + can be paradoxically stimulating as opposed to lower doses of say 2/10mg. If i take above 20 mg of valium i'll wind up organizing my stuff, getting work done, generally quite productive & no i'm not talking out a dope addled ass either!

I'm sure others on here can tell you that high doses of benzos can make you energetic!

Of course there's always the possibility that valium isn't the benzo for you & u are getting p.rs. Maybe ask your doc for another benzo & discuss this with him.

& yes i do find valium & lorazepam for that matter to help me get back on track as they remove inhibitions allowing you to do things u otherwise may have not. But tread carefully otherwise you'll need a dose just to get in the shower...

IMO No. Really no. I hate using the term addiction when adressing benzos. It really does weird shit to your nerves. It makes your nerves compensate for the sedation it causes by downregulating and uncoupling GABA nerves. This occurs immediately after the first dose. GABA is a serious thing to alter in your body.
Just like alcohol it can give you energy, but I had a PR off of valium that was pure hell.
There is more to benzo dependence than "addiction." It's not like any other drug. Even though it bears similar mechanisms to alcohol it is still nothing like that either.

With any benzo there are risks, valium is one of the more forgiving through, at least you didn't get a Xanax script, the shorter acting benzos are much worse when it comes to addiction...

Instead of the valium or an SSRI, ask your doctor about venlafaxine, which is an SNRI. It is specifically indicated for social anxiety.

..and then forget that you took a higher dose, and take some more.

But seriously, it can be dangerous. Benzos aren't really supposed to be prescribed for longer than a few weeks. I'm yet to meet somebody who only got benzos scripted for a few weeks, I think doctors just ignore that recommendation. Not that I'm complaining...

^ Here in england 10 1 mg pills are the most u'll get off a doc unless your treated for palliative care when u should get a weeks worth of diazepam; 21 5 mg pills to be taken 3 times daily.

They script them for alcohol wd & opiate wd too but that's quite last resort far as i know.

I had to be very firm with my doc that i would not take a beta blocker & i just wanted a couple of sedatives for the worst of times.

it really depends, do the benefits outweigh the negatives? it is long acting which is good in case you become dependent on it. I have to say nothing fucks with your nervous system quite like benzos but if you can use them as needed and not daily I'd say go for it, a lot of people can actually do this.

If you just want confidence work on it without relying on drugs, use valium if it helps but try not to use it often.

or

Use it daily but stick to your prescribed dose religiously and realize the danger of not taking it once you're hooked.

Do what's best for you just think long and hard before you dive into taking it daily.

i think if you use them on a strict "as needed" basis, you'll be fine.

however benzos have a bad habit of turning into bad habits, and even the effects of theraputic doses can turn into something terrible(i'm currently a full blown benzo addict with little hope, but this isn't about me).

daily use is risky with benzos.

^ I am a benzo FIEND. K'd-OUT speaks the motherfucking truth. Not everyone is this way, like he and I, but I am here to say that if you choose to take benzodiazepines daily, you are choosing to also go through horrible withdrawals and unexpected side effects down the road. Remember always: what goes down, must come up.

true, i recently tried to kick benzos but relapsed and now i'm popping K-pins, temazepam, and Valiums with booze regularly.
