Opioids Daily use of demerol

Hello all. So my oxy connection has run dry for a while, and all I've been able to get these past few weeks was demerol. Now I know the talk of seizures and such with daily use, but how common is this? Is it just associated with oral doses?

I don't get high from it, all it does is keep the withdrawals at bay. But the past couple nights I've been getting a few tremors while laying in bed. Some small, some my whole body. Is concerning to me.

While I know continuing to use it is a stupid idea, is there any safer way to administer the drug? If it helps, I always sniff it.

Are you talking about hypnic jerks? They happen most commonly when you're falling asleep and its like a quick zap.

Basically when you're breathing and other basic functions slow down as a result of falling asleep or drugs, your body thinks its happening to quickly and sends a little jolt to make sure you aren't dying or anything. If this is it, it happens VERY commonly to people who use opioids (I've experienced it as much as every 1-5 minutes when on morphine before) and this alone shouldn't be too worrisome.

Your heart rate could be skyrocketing due to anxiety because you're worried its something serious.
 
The anxiety thing is very true. If I was to have a seizure, I'd assume it would of happened by now. My heart rate is back to normal.

Should I discontinue use of the demerol for a few days? Just tough when I have nothing else.
 
Take it orally.

Your symptoms are most likely detox from the oxy.

You can compliment safe doses of pethidine with codeine OTC in Canada.
 
What would the oral dose differ from sniffing it? I have to take much more orally to get effects than when I sniff it. And i've been off oxy for a few weeks, been using demerol every day since then.
 
Unless he's taking tiny doses of demerol compared to what he was taking of oxy, he's not going to be experiencing withdrawal. They are closely enough related and both agonize mu opioid receptors that there will be substantial (albeit likely incomplete) cross tolerance.
 
I mostly meant it that the twitches and tachycardia wasn't demerol induced brain poison. That being said it's still weaker by a factor of ten or so which could have not been accounted for and be withdrawal. I suppose OP would know best though.
 
There's no way we can answer this with any accuracy... if what you're experiencing IS just a combination of myoclonic/hypnic jerks and anxiety then this alone is not sufficient evidence to think you're at serious risk but how can we know?

I understand that you want reassurance but it'd be irresponsible for any person here to to say with certainty that you're completely safe. There are far too many variables that we can not account for and none of us are trained medical professionals who have physically examined you.
 
would it be unwise to take a few zopiclones? I have several 7.5mg ones. I'm getting uncomfortable anxiety and need to sleep. My last dose of 150 demerol was a few hours ago
 
While doing some reading, I came across this:

"Normeperidine (an active metabolite and CNS stimulant) may accumulate and precipitate anxiety, tremors, or seizures; risk increases with preexisting CNS or renal dysfunction, prolonged use (>48 hours), and cumulative dose (>600 mg/24 hours). Oral meperidine should not be used since first-pass metabolism decreases efficacy while increasing normeperidine concentrations"

Is this metabolite just related to oral doses? Would this still build up if doses are sniffed?

Demerol abuse is very dangerous. My dad told me a story about when he was 18 and found a few hundred demerol in the chest at the medical group my grandfather -- his father -- worked at (my grandfather was a founding doctor there). He shot them all and had a terrible seizure and the neurologist didnt even know what was wrong. Soon enough my grandfather put it together. thinking to self... "Hmm. Drug user. unexplained seizures. Missing needles. HUNDREDS OF MISSING DEMEROL! oy vey, my son!" hahahahaha
 
Would it be fine for me to take a few zopiclones, 15mg or so? It's been around 3 hours since my last dose of 150mg demerol. I just want to get rid of the anxiety and get to sleep
 
In my opinion, it would be okay to take a few Zimovane considering your Demerol dose was not too high and was hours ago. I, myself, trust alcohol more than other gaba-inducing drugs when combining with drugs. I have heard one report of zopiclone becoming toxic when combined with high doses of morphine. I am not experienced with Demerol, but i have mixed zaleplon, zolpidem, etc,. with basically every opiate and was fine. But you can never be sure so i would do some research of your own, combine what you learn with what you have read on bluelight, and make and informed decision. Never go by what one person says when your safety is involved.
 
That wasn't my only dose of the day, if that matters. Just the last one. I had 300mg or so 10-12 hours ago
