Are the effects of opium different than oxycodone or hydrocodone?

BDD: Are the effects of opium different than oxycodone or hydrocodone?

Also, how potent is pure opium?

Quite different. The effects of Opium last longer & it contains the alkaloids morphine & codeine as well as something called thebaine which has a stimulant effect.

I'm not sure really how to answer your question 'how potent is pure opium' as it varies from batch to batch but in my experience opium is very potent stuff.

So what are the major differences? Erowid has no info on opiums effects
 
The Brirish Pharmacopea says opium is ~10% morphine and usually more. It has a much wider spectrum of alkaloids in it and can even be stimulating at low doses. The major difference between it and pure alkaloids is that opium is black, waxy/tarry, and is generally nicer to handle, measure, and ingest if it's not super sticky, as well as being less potent by weight than stright oxycodone or whatever.

Start by smoking/ingesting about half a pea-sized ball and you should be good with no tolerance. It should have roughly the same efects as any other opiate, although some find it more pleasant and a different experience altogether. The active constituents in it are usually codeine, morphine, thebaine, and papverine.
 
I smoked pure opium and it was the bomb. I've also drank opium tincture. The effects were greatly different through their ROA. Smoking it was more stimulating and drinking more sedating. The effects are definitely different than oxycodone but its hard to explain. I didn't nod out so much from the opium but it was great.

Thanks, can't wait until I can get my hands on some. SWIM is probably just going to grow O poppies and harvest
 
Good opium is very sedating, unlike oxycodone. It also feels (is) so much purer and natural than either of chemicals you are referring to.
 
How can a plant product be pure? Do you mean uncut opium? There are many varieties of opium poppies, with varying concentrations of various alkaloids.

Opium is pretty similar to morphine or heroin. I find it to be a bit more trippy and warm then other opiates. It's much more sedating then oxycodone and more fun then hydrocodone in my opinion. It can make you nod, depending on the dose you use. If you're asking if it's fun, the answer is yes, it's similar to other opiates in that respect.

If you are planning on growing poppies, you might want to look into different types as the effects can vary. Giganthemums are huge (baseball-softball size), there are afghani ones which I believe are pretty high in codeine (I know Iranian poppies are high in codeine), there's lots of kinds is my point.
 
opiates are my favorite chemicals. ive had many different ones (oxy/hydrocodone/morphone, morphine, codiene, etc.) and out of them all, the one week during last summer that i was blessed to find opium for the first and so far only time was the best experience. the high from opium is very lucid and just pure euphoria. i spent about 4 days straight floating in my own little opium cloud. it all culminated in my first acid trip where i finished the opium and to the day i cant deny that was the greatest night ive ever had. so to answer your question, yes, they are very different in my opinion. also, while supplies lasted i couldnt go more than a few hours without smoking another beautiful opium ball.
PS: opium also smells MUCH better than any pill =P

Sounds like my type of high. :)

I would like the ones with the highest morphine content. I've heard of a super strain. P. somniferum L. Elite that has aprox. 70-80% morphine but i'll keep dreaming. Do you know of any with high traces of morphine
 
I don't, but I like the giganthemums (they're big) and afghani ones. Seeds for various kinds are sold online.

After doing a bit of reading I've read that some good ones in potency are chinese and persian. Some ones that produce a lot of latex are giganthemum and hens and chicks.

Sweet. I'm gonna look into those more and see what the alkaloid contents are for each strain.
