Full integration is now complete

I'm not sure if the mainstream's dabbling will affect electronic music in the long run.

Also not impressed with the track.
 
An electro house britney track is definitely not a tipping point in terms of going mainstream.

Over the years the line between pop/edm/rock/rap has been blurred so heavily. Moby's album "18" yielded 18 licensed songs used in commercials and everywhere else you went about 5 years ago. Deadmau5 is tremendously huge...I know a lot of people hate on him but honestly, when I was 17 I would have been putting a paper bag over my head with paper plates stapled on like ears so I could jump around my skivvies and rock out in my room. Fuck yes. I must admit his sound pretty cliché to my pretentious, sophisticated ear. Technically impressing? Yes. Musical masterpieces? No....but I definitely have respect for him. As much as any learned EDM fans hate on deadmau5, he is the pied piper for the next generation of ravers and is planting that first seed of a life of EDM into every one of those kids. I see it as a good thing.

So to sum up my convoluted point, no this is not a tipping point. Deadmau5, love him or hate him, was the (most recent) tipping point in turning EDM toward the mainstream. EDM will never be mainstream, but occasionally stuff will come along and pique the interest of someone who would never be exposed to dnb, psy, minimal, deep house, bringing them into the fold. Pop music will always be there, EDM will never try to or be able to conquer it, but from time to time it sneaks its tentacles into the mainstream listening population and snags a few more untz-til-i-die ravers.

Nothings gonna happen. EDM's been heavily influencing pop tracks for years and 99% of people who listen to pop don't know what house or trance is, much less dubstep.
 
I would agree that certain elements of EDM have gone mainstream in that pop acts like Lady Gaga, BS, Kanye West, Rihana or whatever are using elements of electro house, dubstep and "dance beats". But I would hardly call that representative of EDM. Trends in pop music are fickle and they mostly have little meaning in the larger scheme of things. I'd bet that eventually the mainstream's use of the certain EDM elements will simply be relegated to a trend at the turn of the 2000s and the early teens. Like the 'metal' trend of late 80s or the obsession with gangsta rap in the late 90s or early 2000s.

I hope you're right, but I have my doubts. In my experience, most people who listen to Deadmaus usually don't know much about EDM outside of a few other popular producers like Pendulum or Tiesto. And there is nothing wrong with that, I am just saying that I am not convinced that most people who listen to Deadmau will graduate to listen to the real stuff.

Side Note:

Most of the mainstream use of EDM is ultra tame. Lot's of vocals, focus on catchy beats/structures/breakdown, it's all highly limited in scope. I'd bet that if you put on some Drum & Bass or Psytrance for the people who listen to that William/Deadmau/whatever, they wouldn't really know what to do with themselves.

I'm not saying that everyone who listens to deadmau5 graduates to good stuff, but everyone needs some kind of first exposure to EDM, something to interest them enough to seek out more. I can say that more people would come from listening to him, rather than us losing people to him and forsaking Dnb, etc. Its kind of a one way street. This scene always needs fresh blood

This. I remember when I told people tiesto and benny benassi were the best dj's in the world. I still love benny but my tastes have changed. I still listen to some commercial dance music, nothing like that shit mixed with rap though. I was listening to the radio the other day and heard deadmau5 being mixed with kesha, i was so mad. Eventually, the real fans will get deeper in the rabbit hole that is electronic dance music, whether it be house, electro, dubstep or drum and bass, or any other genre.

Yes I think disco used beats that influenced classic house music, and that was popular for a while.

But look at some of the songs that came out recently, if you cut the vocals and maybe add some FX, it sounds like basic cheesy house/electro music. Plus, to the mainstream audience who hasn't been fans of EDM like we have for years, this is exciting. They only listen to radio music and whats on the charts, so they have no idea what EDM is capable of. They just add rap/women vocals over it and mix it together and VOILA! a hit ... :( its sad but thats cuz im musically elitist

I think EDM going mainstream is a bad thing for the genre, b/c it's gonna convince lots of EDM producers to make more mainstream type tunes instead of their core stuff (Tiesto, David Guetta, Swedish House is getting there?). Look what happened to hip hop, 5 years ago mainstream hip hop still existed. It was just blowing up for way too long, and now finally it's super mainstream and the hip hop genre doesn't even exist anymore (Thanks T Pain and company!)

I say if you think a genre going completely mainstream is a good thing, go look at what happened to hip hop in the last few years, and pray that doesn't happen to EDM :(

I think that won't happen to EDM. While some mainstream artists incorporate elements of EDM into their songs, that's hardly comparable to the real thing. I think there will always be demand for stuff like drum & bass, psytrance, deep house and so on... Dubstep and Electro-type music might implode as the mainstream starts to move on to the "next big thing (TM)", but I still think there will be good dubstep and electro producers/gig even after that.

(I actually appreciate the dirty bit loop.. but the vocal sample makes me sick to my stomach)

I hope it doesn't either :( but i think we both know it will. The worst part is i can see generic dubstep, drum and bass and even breaks being incorporated with beyonce, kayne or even justin beieber :( :( :( :(

when that day comes i will join you in some serious prayer haha

That's not a remix at all, that is the actual song. I keep telling people if you could just take all the horrible BEP vocals off that track and just have the beat, it wouldn't be bad at all!
