Earlier today I was unable to acess my account. I logged in as usual but my first login attempt failed saying I entered the wrong password and that 1 of 5 login attempts were used, I thought maybe I mispelt something so tried again and the same thing happened. So I didnt want to risk any further trials so I went directly to my notepad where I store my username and password and copied and pasted it from there and still it would not let me acess my account.

Eventually I ended up using all 5 of my login attempts which then gave me the message saying I had to wait 15 minutes to try again, 15 minutes later I tried a password reset but even with that it still wouldnt let me login. I didnt know what to do so I came into support trying to leave amessage but it would not allow me because I had to login to ask for help. So I went to anonymous and asked for help there but no one answered, eventually I found the "contact us" option and emailed the admin. I tried for 2 hours to login but every attempt failed. I woke up this morning hoping there was an explanation from admin but no one had bothered to respond to any of my queries asking what had happened with my account. I tried to login again and this time it worked, obviously they fixed the issue with my account but no one gave me any explanation.

How is it that I was randomly locked out of my account ?

I was really freaked out and I looking through my old topics trying to see if I broke any rules anywhere, I cant see any warning or infractions, I assume if I did something wrong they would have sent me a message ? How do we even check for any warnings on our account ? The only other thing I can think of is that I reported a moderator that ive had disputes with lately and he may have acessed my account as an act of vengance, I know its a long shot but I cant think of any reason else this would happen.

just because you can't think of a reason doesn't mean a reason doesn't exist.

moderators don't have any access to accounts in the manner you describe.

I'll posit that it may have been a cause like your having had caps lock on during your tries.

If your acct problems were do to a disciplinary reason you would have received a notification. I have had rare problems with logging in or staying logged in that were glitches or errors on my side. I assume if a cause on the BL side of things is found you will get an explanation, but a lot of technology mishaps occur without a clear cause ever being discovered.

I'll just say I'm sorry you experienced this problem and I hope it doesn't reoccur.

I was at home when it occured, I have a static ip so nothing was different, I did not have cap locks on and I specifically checked for it, I even used copy and paste directly from my notepad where I have saved the pass and username. I tried everything for 2 hours before I gave up and went to sleep. I am certain it wasnt at my end

From what I can see your posts in the SUPPORT thread are coming from a single IP, which you claim is static. Back a week ago, I see an IP match with the user account of "Unlucky" which you notified us about dropping use of back in December. "Unlucky" has a last activity date of about a week ago. Perhaps you were trying to use mismatched passwords? There are no traces of anyone else even trying to log into your account....so, methinks the problem *was* on your end. :\

The password for "Unlucky" was the exactly the same for the password for this account "Altered Perception". If you don't believe me just get admin to verify what I just told you, I only just changed password very recently for this account after my 2nd password reset failed purely as a result of this incidence but up until then my passwords were always stayed the same.

The only reason I accidently logged into unlucky was just a matter of habbit after having that account for 3 years, it was just a teeething problem I experienced once during the transition to my new account.

Please give me a bit more credit I am not stupid, I think it hardly takes anyone 2 hours of constant trying to find they still cant get into their account. I specifically checked for caps lock as it clearly states the login details are case sensative and I typed things very slowly once I realised there was an error and when that didnt work I copied and pasted. The next day when the problem was fixed I got in instantly, its not like at the time I was trying to acess my account I was drunk or on drugs or anything like that.

There is no way that the admins/engineers could tell you what was wrong here, They also won't be able to check passwords etc, as they're encrypted in the database.

May I please request we never make referance to my old account "Unlucky" again, old habbits die hard and I had that account for 3 years so the only way I can avoid loging into it is if I forget about it but just now after it was brought up in the commnets above I accidently logged into it again, and replied here on it using that account after the name got stuck in my head again, soon as soon as I realised my mistake I deleted the commnets but my account was locked instantly and I had to email admin to explain what happened, luckly the issue was resolved promptly so please no more of the name unlucky, it does not exist anymore.

Keep in mind that things here work on "Bluelight time" so you need to wait a bit before expecting something to be done. Anon is one of my forums and usually I can take care of things pretty quick in there, but you just happened to catch me on one of the few days where I wasnt online. I wouldnt have seen it until now. You just need to be patient. That goes for the admin email as well, you cant expect everyone to be there right when you are.

I dont know what caused that to happen to your account. Its likely that it will not get solved. I checked your account, you have no warnings or infractions, but as was said before, if it had been due to a temp ban you would have been notified. If it happens again (hopefully it wont) then anon is probably your best bet, but again, you'll probably have to wait more than two hours because not everyone is here 24/7.

By the way, if you dont want to be able to access the "account that shall not be named" anymore you can always change it to a bogus email and password, that way you wont be able to access it anymore.

I had a problem on my old computer where pressing enter on my keyboard added a newline character to the end of any text/password I was trying to submit making the queries fail. Fixed it by pressing the submit button instead of hitting return. (maybe using tab to switch fields might cause a problem like this as well)

Was your internet slow or a bad connection? Maybe it was timing out and counting as an attempt or there was really bad packet loss so it wasn't getting through. Probably most likely a problem with software on your computer though. Clear and allow cookies, clear browser cache, disable addons, try a different browser, disable/re-enable internet, logout/login computer user account, reboot computer, try logging on in a fresh computer user account and seeing if errors continue. Lot's of fun :D

Excellent suggestion, you are a genius <3 I will change my password to something random, however I will need to login one last time into that accout to do that, will that be a problem ?

Thank you too amapola, in fact I tried clearing everything, I usually do that when I run into odd browser problems, I use the program ccleaner

Do you store passwords in your browser? If so try removing the password for your account thats automatically stored in your browser (I've had this problem with autocomplete before) and then adding them again.

That wont be a problem as long as you dont make any posts with it.

By the way, when that was happening, did you try a different browser?

the browser wouldn't have been the problem since the error reply made it back through, not to mention he was still on the website with no other problem. The only thing I can think of it that someone else was on your account from in your house. Is that a possibility? You did say you kept your password stored on file.

I use both Mozilla Firefox v 3.6.10 and Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7, usually if one of them misbehave I always try the other browser, I have a curious mind and a habbit of trying to figure everything out and resolve an issue using various tactics, if one fails I always try something else.

tomber its just me and my parents and they dont even know how use a computer.

But ah well lets just forget the whole thing I can see I am not going to be able to resolve this matter so I m going to just consider it as a mysterious random phenomenon that happened for whatever reason. At least something positive came out of this topic as fizzle's suggestion to avoid logging into my old account by mistake is now a sucess. Thank you.

Glad to see you got back in to your account (again!) :) If you dont really have other people in your house that you have to worry about getting in to your account, you might try ticking the "remember me" box so that you dont have to worry about this happening so much.
