I have no idea where this should go, I think this forum may be for BLers and their work, not other peoples', but I've read Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis many times, and for a while I've been realizing some things that he's said that I think are outright lies. Don't get me wrong, it's a fucking great book, simply amazing, but I've just found these things wrong:
1. He says he sold some Percodan for 5 bucks a pill, sometime back in the '70s. Now, I know that Percodan is 4.8355 mg of oxycodone per pill, and looking at today's Oxy prices, which are generally 50 cents per mg, going up to (usually) at most, $1 per mg, I think that selling roughly 5 mg of oxycodone for 5 bucks back then is more than a little crazy. I mean, this was like 1976, i think. I just looked at the inflation, and 5 bucks back in '76 is $18.64 nowadays. NO WAY does it cost $18.64 for 5 mg of oxycodone. Especially how he said "some junkies across the street bought a jar for 5 bucks a pill" A WHOLE FUCKING JAR for that much?!? No way.
2. He states that he shot a combo of vodka and blotter LSD, and that it was the only time he "peaked on acid in one second". I have two problems with this. First, the vodka. Vodka is full of sugars and such, other stuff than the ethanol and water, which are much safer to inject afaik, although of course shooting pure ethanol is probably still extremely harmful. I think that IVing vodka would be a sure-fire way to get an abcess and cause some SERIOUS damage to the circulatory system. Second, the LSD. He stated that he "dissolved the blotter acid the best I could". Blotter acid is obviously on a blotter, which is paper. IVing PAPER?!?! Shooting paper is probably a better way to fuck up your circulatory system than shooting vodka. He also said that he "peaked on acid in one second" This is simply wrong, obviously IV takes roughly 15-20 seconds to reach the brain, and that's just the come-up. Yes, LSD was originally manufactured for injection under the brand name "Delysid" but that was pure LSD mixed with water, specifically meant for injection. Blotter paper is NOT meant for injection, although I have read about people (including a BLer, as quoted below) shooting blotter paper, its a fucking stupid idea, and still, an extremely risky thing to do. Here's the quote, from a member called farabove the clouds.
"By the way, I wouldn't do that again, not only because it didn't had any advantages except a quicker onset. Duration was nearly the same like doing it under the tongue. I would always prefer the oral way. The injection was just a tiny little bit interesting because: you see immediatly how the onset starts & it does not bring you in the middle of a trip in a few seconds...no...it STILL needs to develope over the minutes (more than half an hour). Just the colours were there immediatly). So what I got out from it was, that it is a chain reaction, and LSD is just the beginner, not the effective substance that works in the brain. But you can get this also out of a good book about Acid. When someone asks me I usually say that it was not worth the effort."
He stated that you do not "peak immediately" as Kiedis said. Yes, the visuals can set in immediately, but the "trip" does NOT.
I'm forgetting a lot of other stuff, feel free to add if you noticed this as well. I know this is a "tl;dr" story, but I think it's rather important. It's not like A Million Little Pieces, Kiedis did struggle with a fucking gnarly IV coke and H habit for a long time, but I'm just pointing out what I see as lies. I'm rather high on methadone, and when I'm on opiates, I go through the cycle of writing, nodding, writing more, nodding, smoking, writing, nodding. So sorry about the length of this post.
tl;dr, Anthony Kiedis lied a few times in his autobiography, Scar Tissue.
