Misc Is pseudoephedrine a safe substitute for caffeine as a general stimulant?

Would it be safe to regularly use pseudoephedrine in the same manner that millions of people use caffeine? For instance, could one take a single 30mg pill as an early morning pick-me-up on a semi-regular basis, or take 30mg to maintain alertness when working late? How significant is the potential for adverse effects resulting from this pattern of use?

Both pseudoephedrine and ephedrine are dirty stimulants, caffeine is probably safer (somebody back me up on this?).

The only time I've ever felt anything at all from pseudoephed was when I took 240mg of Sudafed extended-release, it felt like I had taken a tiny bit of ephedrine.

Lots of nasty side effects at doses needed for it to actually be a stimulant. :\

People sure do this, yes. I would recommend to stick to caffeine. You might want to look into a caffeine supplement. I have one which contains caffeine, theobromine, and theophylline.

these types of substances tend to be very bad for your body, and in the long run they make you feel worse and give you less energy. maybe try something like a good, healthy, consistent, stable diet that includes maybe a wheat grass shot(gross but AMAZINGLY healthy for you) every morning. I know SO many people who swear by it. Also, try not to overeat(like so many of us Americans do now) when you have meals.....be more aware of how you feel and when your body tells you your full, stop eating....dont keep eating just because you have more food on your plate. Youd be suptised how much this can help. it really takes away alot of crap that was weighing you down that you didnt even realize. And of course regular exercide is ALWAYS a great way to boost energy, self confidence and increase the amount of naturaly occuring chemicals/endorphins that make you feel more energized and positive.

Good luck. (Sry but im just not a big believer in caffeine)

Pseudoephedrine is so perhipheral it's not even funny. It's great for stopping a runny nose or cooking crank but worthless as a stimulant. I'd take caffeine any day over pseudo.

i alternate between using caffeine, ephedrine and 1,3 DMAA.. but usually just DMAA a couple/few times a day (have it in a snuff bullet, yes it burns, but after a few days you get used to it) and i drink caffeine throughout the day.

But as to the OP's question.. yes pseudoephedrine could be used, i've used as a stimulant.. wasn't as good as regular ephedrine but still worked.

Thanks for the responses. FYI, I am considerably more tolerant (in the sense of how well I tolerate as opposed to how much of a tolerance I have to it) to low doses of pseudoephedrine than to low doses of caffeine for whatever reason, which is why I asked. Also I do appreciate pseudo's anorectic properties that caffeine does not have.
