HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
It has come to that time of year where we can all let our hair down, relax a little, spend some quality time with family and friends and reflect upon the year that’s been. Whether you’re employed, studying, travelling, or looking for work, it’s time to kick back for a well-deserved break. So gather ‘round children and listen to old belarki’s cautionary tales for the festive season…
This holiday message has been a bit of a tradition over the years and a lot of what I’m saying has been covered in the past messages by lil angel, Big Trancer, fry-d-, hoptis, and the rest of the BL & Aus DD crew. As such I owe them a big thanks for the inspiration for my post and apologies for any blatant plagiarism.
I’ll start with a big thank you to all of the contributors to this forum. Aus DD wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you guys and gals and we’ve had some fantastic and active posters over the last 12 months. A shout out to the many lurkers too (hi officers!). The year has seen a big shuffle in the mod team here and I’d like to note what an amazing job Psilo, Sykik, Footscrazy and Phase_Dancer have done keeping the place in one piece. We've also seen some changes to the structure with the pill info requests being cordoned off into their own sub-forum which I believe has worked well. As always we are open to feedback and suggestions to change though.
Now on to more serious topics: hand in hand with the holiday season, over Christmas, New Years and the Summer festival season, we tend to take every opportunity to get loose, messy and be more than a little indulgent. That’s all well and good and pretty much ingrained in Australian culture but that doesn’t mean we can’t still practice harm reduction. So I’ll ask you to please be mindful of the following points this Summer and encourage your mates to be active in their HR measures too:
Peace, Love, Unity and Respect from the Australian Drug Discussion moderators, senior staff and crew members.
So please comment below and reflect on the year that’s been and what the future holds for you. %)

That’s all well and good and pretty much ingrained in Australian culture but that doesn’t mean we can’t still practice harm reduction. So I’ll ask you to please be mindful of the following points this Summer and encourage your mates to be active in their HR measures too:
- Know your limits: rarely have I ever looked back on a bad substance experience and thought “I wish I had have taken more of XYZ”. Similarly,
- Take things in moderation: it’s all well and good to get messy but it’s pointless if you can’t remember the experience,
- Look out for your mates: be a little selfless and offer to be a designated driver, trip-sitter, etc,
- Don’t be afraid to seek assistance (especially medical) if needed. Call an ambulance if you think it’s warranted. No one’s life is worth second guessing; it’s is always better to call help if in doubt rather than take a potentially fatal risk. Ambo’s and paramedics are non-judgmental and will not call police unless a serious crime has been committed or they themselves are in danger.
- Stay hydrated and either in the shade or slip slop slap…. I’m 28 and had my first skin cancer removed this year… seriously folks having a glowing tan isn’t worth the damage you’re doing to yourself,
- Drive safely, sober, and under the speed limit!
- Plan your experiences well, be prepared for any likely outcomes and make sure you have back-up plans, methods of transport, communication, access to first aid etc. As lil angel put it so eloquently last year, “forethought it better than hindsight after all”,
- If you are going to indulge in poly-drug use then do some research beforehand. It’s usually when mixing drugs that people get into trouble.
