^i smoke weed on average once/twice a week. Ive been smoking for about 3 years now and i cant say i have ever come across different strains of weed.

everytime ive brought it has only been sold to me as weed

one day im hoping to find a hook up with some grandmas boy or pineapple express type bud !

anyone out there getting different strains? green hulks? frankensteins?

peace

You prob have had many dif strains its just that dealers dont generally know the genetics of the buds they are selling. My dealer is a true stoner and has 4 or 5 dif strains available whenever I visit. The difference in the stone between dif strains is quite amazing.

yeah thats what i thought... would be nice if we had a little store down the road that had a wide variety to choose from, wonder if its like that in the a-dam

There is no such thing as ur "standard" or average strain of weed. If u have been smoking for 3 years now so often im guessing ur more likely to have smoked tons of different strains. Do u not notice different effects at certain times? Usually u dont know what strain u are smoking unless u have ties to growers or who are closely associated with them.

The average Aussie pot smoker has no idea about strains. It becomes even more apparent when you travel to other countries where they sell weed by strain (namely Europe and North America). Most smokers in Australia just buy 'weed' and have no idea about indica's, sativa's and cross breads.

I grew from a very young age so I had some knowledge of strains and their different effects. It wasn't until I traveled to Canada that I really got to try a wide variety of strains and work out which best suited me.

A lot of growers in this country think they have bought 'blah blah' strain as a clone and in actual fact it is a completely different strain. The amount of times I have heard of people buying northern lights clones for top dollar and them being nothing of the sort is beyond me.

The best thing you can do is educate yourself and then spread this knowledge to your friends. I have been pushing strain knowledge for many years and have managed to educate some of my friend circles.

As mentioned above, the differences in highs between strains is AMAZING!!! Some strains pick you up and focus you, some are a deep body stone that wreck you, some are a head high etc....

Knowledge is power. You have the biggest database on earth at your finger tips, so get researching and spread the knowledge that you gain with your friends.

Australia has a long way to go, but I am noticing more and more smokers/growers that know their shit. A lot more than 5-10 years ago.

Be the change that you want to see in this world.

Happy smoking :)

This is a joke thread right?

You've been inhaling this plant for 3 years and you think your smoking the same 'weed' every time.

Read a book. Research the plant. Grow the plant. Enjoy the plant.

Don't be a school kid stooge smoking a herb you don't understand because you saw a Cheech and Chong movie when you were 14.

Slack, but fair.

Obviously generic I was referring to being sold different strain of weed not to whether I had smoked different strains. Of course I would have but what I'm saying is it was sold as just weed to me. I want it to be sold from the start with a name. Not just weed.

I have noticed the different effects of course then I'll ask my dealer and he quotes "it's just weed man"

Cheers for the input.

I enjoyed reading that, thanks for the info buffchino.

Possible to link me to that ban story, I'm quite interested. I'm going to the dam next year :)

Buddy, I have been smoking pot for a LONG time, and also growing some awesome strains sourced direct from the 'dam. I also think I have read about every possible strain that exists in the world, and I have NEVER once heard green hulks or frankensteins, they sound like BZP legal high pills! LOL

Check out this site here, and have a look at some real strains (they wont ship to Aus, so don't bother, it's only for information on some great strains)

Sorry mods, delete it if I am not allowed to link through in here. Just trying to help dude out a little for future reference.

Isn't just about all weed in Australia indica? I was under the impression that because indica is smaller and more dense than sativa it's easier to grow indoors and easier to conceal when grown outdoors.

So even if you've been smoking for 3 years it's highly unlikely you would come across a pure sativa with out knowing it. Just buying "weed" will almost certainly guarantee some kind of indica or cross breed.

Experience seems to confirm this. Even after 15years, every smoke has been accompanied by varying levels of the "couch glue"...the body stoned feeling that is apparently only really felt with cannabis indica

There is plenty of Indica grown outdoors throughout Vic and I'd guess it's much the same in other states. Most people stick to sativa's or cross breeds for indoor grows due to height restrictions.

The large plants have very high yields (some Afghan Indica's produce 600g per square meter!) and it's not all that easier to spot than a smaller plant.

Most of my friends that have been busted by the copper chopper have been growing very small plants, so if your time is up, it's up. The bright green sticks out like a sore thumb from above. Especially a couple of months before harvest when they are the only plant getting watered in the area and most of the surrounding plants are going a shade of brown from the Australian summer... There is a lot of luck when it comes to outdoor growing and not getting busted. Just stick to extremely remote areas and do not grow in your backyard unless you own a farm :)

Yep. Average smokers definitely have no clue about strains. Obviously they can notice the different type of effects different strains can give you though.

Would love to have different strains labeled and sold here like in California. Wouldn't mind the price hit since I don't smoke very often.

Probably your best bet for getting strains in Australia is to profile the grower IMO :)

- med-large hydroponic indoor growers tend to have types of Indicas, usually smaller stocky plants, very dense darker coloured buds. Skunky or heavy stink usually, but can be strong sweet/fruity smell. Makes you feel relaxed, lazy and sleepy.

- Older dudes (50+) growing outdoors in small to med. quantities seem to usually have Sativa. Taller plants, lighter coloured buds. more 'airy', sweet/fruity smell that doesn't overwhelm you. Makes you feel more 'head high', 'trippy', a bit more stimulated. These guys are great...had one next door when I was 17-18, noticed one of his plants was getting easily visible above the fence line so chucked a friendly note in his letter box - didn't expect to hear anything from him. Got a letter back with his phone number, gave him a ring, he thanked me and gave me a shopping bag full of weed! Lasted me ages and it was the best stuff I'd ever had, even though it was mostly small buds from bottom of the plant. Rang him and offered to buy some months later...tells me to forget that and gives me another shopping bag full. This happened every few months until I pressured him into charging me something for it. (I know a bit off topic mods but wanted to share the story of my goodfortune.)

Not correct in all cases but the above is probably 80% correct in my experiences...in adelaide. Of course there's all kinds of growers and all kinds of mixes of sativa/indica.

Seems in general indica is much more common than sativa. IME most growers will go for whatever kind of plant yields the most, our laws are based on plant number and a pound of weed is a pound of weed - doesn't matter what strain it is but 'good' stuff will usually sell easier than 'less good' stuff (good usually meaning how fucked up it gets you) Sometimes there's slight price differences depending on quality, normally when it gets to a dealer selling ounces rather than a grower selling x amount is when this will happen. Also - low quality stuff is sometimes a fair bit cheaper especially if supply is good of high quality nug.

I know this stuff isn't exact and it's just based on my experiences.

Overall the strength of weed here is good mostly, but for someone who likes to smoke sativa it's tricky if you don't know one of those old dudes.
