For anyone who knows of the popular 70s recreational prescription drug quaaludes (think Kate Hudson in Almost Famous), are there similarities between it and MDMA? From what I've read, quaaludes were hugely popular at discos at were often readily available at clubs because they heightened sensation. Sounds to me like an early ecstasy-like drug. Can any bluelighters enlighten me, maybe those that have taken the drug (and is it still available?)

a fried of mine got arrested with paul frank monkey's and the police tested the ingredients and they came up as quaaludes/methaqualone, so i guess some people put them in beans today still

I thought ludes were completely gone, also. I found ludes to be something of a barbiturate. They made me sleepy. I thought they went nicely with weed. I mixed some with coke one time and felt like I was riding a roller coaster for an hour. I don't like roller coasters.

Eh, no. Ecstasy and quaaludes are not alike.

Ludes are a downer, that is: they were originally a sleep aid for people who couldn't fall asleep. Used by kids/20 somethings in the 70s to get high, they produced a drunken like high. (I know: I was there, doing it). People WOULD lose inhibitions on ludes, and in this sense they produce an effect that resembles E. But on ludes if you got up and danced it was because you were horny and wanted to bump with somebody. E makes you WANT to dance, to move, to smell sweet things, to talk (at least some people do like it)... and E is often cut with things that make it still speedier. All in all, E is an upper: you will NOT go to sleep on it; Ludes are a downer: any time you want to call it a night, buh-bye, you're out like a light.

Also, since you asked about ludes still being around, I haven't heard of them being sold or used in at least 25 years.

yeah i'd listen to ugly on this one, she's done plenty of luudes and shit, if she says its nothing alike then i believe her
why would it be anyway, it looks like a supercharged benzo/barb.

Actually its really easy to sleep while using mdma. Provided of course that is the only active ingredient you have ingested.

I'd have to disagree. While it can be easy to fall asleep on the comedown off some good pure MDMA, I feel that something must be wrong with your adrenal glands if you're passin' out on a roll. Just my opinion though.

And damn, I'd be so stoked to get some ludes, even if I thought I was buying MDMA. I've heard the stuff is long extinct.

It varies from person to person.
If I take a super clean roll that has high MDxx content I definitely get to the point where I could fall asleep, I know a lot of people that are the same way. But on the flip side, there are people that just cant sleep at all, no matter how much they take and how clean they are.

Quaaludes were nothing like rolls. Ludes were more like being drunk without having to worry about having a hangover. It surprises me a little that they aren't manufactured for the street market somewhere.

I was laying down in bed with my eyes closed relaxing about 1.5 hours into the peak and this was with pills w/ a suspected meth content in them 8o
