Thanks for all that TLB :)

When is the absolute deadline to get the whole bill paid?

I've just done the survey, and will try to donate soon (if I can before the deadline).

Thanks for doing the survey. The date we're using is JAN 15. That gives a few days after for any bank holds to clear and all monies to be sent to our host.

I will also buying a calender, But that may not be until the new year.

Check the calendar thread, there are discounts available now, but I'm not sure how long they are valid. ;)

Did the big flashy thing at the top of the index page always say JAN 15? I was looking really hard for that before I posted about the deadline, must be blind.

In your honest opinion, TLB (strictly as a spokesperson for the BL admin), how much do you think you could raise towards the goal each year if you instituted the long, long, long planned fee for username change fee policy? It only makes sense, takes the pressure off other channels and is actually the easiest fundraiser stream BL will experience in a while, IMHO. I believe that it could revolutionise your thinking vis a vis other streams, to be honest.

Up to you, of course, but get this point up for debate up in that meeting up there in the most active forum on BL, would you? It pays dividends to the bottom line! It's a service, not a donation. It's a service rendered; people won't mind paying. How much more plainly can it be brought forward?

Okay... just in case... lol... now would be the time for people to back me up. Mind you, if and when this actually gets approved (on one of these watches it will, don't you doubt it!), I would appreciate the drive to make this a solid permanent policy, not just a fleeting, passing, fee paying fancy. Make it the LAW here. Thanks! :)

I will be donating before the end of the month. Love you guys - I'd hate to see things go belly up.

Bluelight es mi familia.

If things go pearshaped, will Skydancer agree to let someone else host it?

Edit: actually, PM me if you want to sell it. I owe the site a debt.

^^ Holy crap, haven't seen that name in a while.

Skydancer doesn't own the site/have anything to do with the site any more, I believe anyway. He owns/or is a major part of the company that host BL though, and I believe he's the technical contact for the host.

And I don't think the Admins would sell it. Donate though man, you could pay your debt off in that way!

Yeah it has been a while. I'll keep track of this thread though... wouldn't want the site to die the month before my 10 year anniversary ;)

We dont use paypal, they closed our account. If you click on the "donate" button in red at the top of the page, you can see the methods we accept. If you do it through the people we are using instead of paypal, just sign up with them, it should be pretty straight forward :) And they wont spam you with other stuff or anything.

Honestly, as cool as adding a little tag by someone's name showing that they have donated may be, it may make others who are unable to contribute (but would like to) feel as though it might be rubbing it in their faces.

Just a thought.

I understand where you are coming from, but I very much disagree with the sentiment.

Anyone using this site, can probably afford a computer or laptop, they can certainly afford to access the internet, and most of us can afford to indulge in the various vices that drew us here in the first place.

Given that, surely everyone, even those who are on hard times, can realistically afford a one off donation, even just $5 or euros or pounds would be better than nothing :)

^Woo! Thank you! :D<3 Every bit gets us that much closer to our goal.

Merry Christmas, pacman! :D Thanks for all your contributions!

Do you have an operating budget or statement of cash flows?I don't have alot of time, didn't check. Are they owners of the site open to offers for total buyout or a majority equity stake?

Unrelated to the above, do you have a drop box for larger cash donations (euros or swiss franks), travelers checks other liquid assets etc?

I want to know how this site could cost 6500 euro to run, I'm assuming you have a dedicated server, if so what's the stats on it, I have 20 servers in Europe where this site is hosted at, and Europe hosting is cheap, there is no way there site is using a ton of bandwidth and cpu/ram as a dual core could run this site, or quad xeon which could overpower just about a few hundred sites I see a few other sites ran off this server but still that would amount to over $715 us dollars a month in hosting costs, now if your paying that much for one server your getting ripped off completely, the biggest data centers in Europe don't even charge 20% of that for the highest end servers they got, You shouldn't be paying more than $200-400(high end) us a month to run this site with a quad xeon server..

As they say this site is non-profit, and I've been coming here for years never just registered I just couldn't believe the amount of donations that were being asked for and got, I actually own a hosting company myself and have over 60 dedicated servers from various states/countries so please do explain if you don't mind.

I would be willing to start hosting your site for half of the cost, and most likely fastest servers, bigger pipe, I would like the admin to email me, <snip>, or msn same address. I currently host a few thousand sites, including my own sites, that deal with computer security.

1) 6500 / 12 = 542 = 713 (Reasonable for 2 top end servers using several TB b/w per month IMO)

2) I'm pretty sure they don't want to change host (and you'd probably not be taken seriously with only one post) no offence.
