Drugs are fun. So why are they such a touchy subject?

"Darkness cannot be dissipated with more darkness.
It’s all to do with perspective and what we’re told by the government.

Caffeine is legal and it’s so widely integrated in our daily lives. I know I wouldn’t survive school without it.

Cigarettes are legal. I’m a dumbass for smoking them, but I enjoy the experience. Despite recently being battered by legislation to keep the coughing, hacking and panting portion of the population from smoking inside or within five kilometres (sarcasm) of a door, smokers keep puffing along and accelerating our untimely demise.

So why are these two examples legal? They’re quite harmful.

Caffeine is an addictive substance and tobacco products are unabashedly evil.

Meanwhile, other substances like marijuana and psilocybin (magic mushrooms) are controlled. That means illegal.

However, drugs like MDMA (ecstasy) and LSD (acid man, acid) were at one time legal. Because they’re not all bad.

Acid was used by the CIA in the ‘50s and ‘60s for pretty sweet swinger parties.

Source..?

And this was a relatively poorly written article IMO. Yeah, its pro drug - But its written by a student and it really shows.

In the UK we have whole newspapers written by people who are drunk. And it really shows ;-)

I know the book Acid Dreams sources the practice of dosing other individuals and then informing them so they could go home, and also includes an irate superior rejecting a plan for LSD dosed punch at an office Christmas party. I think the original documents were int he MK-ultra ones.

The reason all these substances are illegal is because there are people out there that shouldn't be allowed to use them. Some people can't handle them, some of the drugs out there are way too easy to OD on for the general public to be allowed to mess with them.
Honestly, I'm happy drugs are illegal. It means fewer idiots can get ahold of them..
I mean, I obviously wish that I could trip/roll/bake/whatever, with out having to worry about going to jail, but I'd rather keep my drug use on the down low than try and defend it's legality while people who have no idea what their doing are overdosing or just doing stupid shit under the influence...

A drug being illegal means it is completely uncontrolled. No age limits, no safe way of taking it, no guarantee about what you are taking. If people using drugs stupidly is a problem then the best solution is some kind of regulation. For example, if you want to roll then you maybe have to get your E at the nightclub with a card/PIN that keeps track of how much you've taken and what else you've taken. When you max out on E then maybe when you put the card in the dispenser and it offers you 2-CB or LSD instead since any more E would just make you sick.

As much as I advocate blanket legalization, it's still hard for me to contemplate what having readily available LSD for the masses would be like. Picture your aunt or some other straight-laced individual. E's legal, they try it, enjoy it. One day, they get a recommendation for LSD and... crazy.

Both LSD and MDMA used to be legal and society didn't end. LSD was legal until the late 60's and MDMA was legal until the mid 80's. As far as I can tell, they both started out the same way modern RC's exist now. The world goes on. Straight edged people probably wouldn't use the stuff even if it was legal. Most people's aunts weren't tripping balls in 1965.

On that note, opiates and cocaine used to be legal, and neither led to the downfall of society

Prohibition was never based around safety, but around racism and prejudices instead. Today's masses are an easily conned bunch, who'd rather base their assumptions on drugs on what the mass media shovels them over actual research and a basis in reality

It is quite sad that some people have convinced themselves so blindly that what is currently illegal is 'evil'. And they will not have a bar of a different opinion; they wont even consider the possibility that some are in fact not harmful at all.

I sometimes feel like these people genuinely want to believe all illegal drugs are bad, because it puts them in a morally higher position. /shrug.

I guess I wasn't referring so much to legalization as full integration into the western materialist society. LSD, 50 cents a tab, next to the batteries.

Illegal drugs are easily obtained drugs. Studies have shown that middle schooler's can get heroin easier than they can get alcohol or cigarettes. Sounds like its working the way it is to me. 8)

Tbh, id rather it be illegal than have to go through that bullshit.
I like picking up a large quantity of drugs and being set for a while..
And having a place where you can have essentially, OTC access to a drug like MDMA, or LSD is just ridiculous. I damn sure wouldn't want certain people to get ahold of any drugs at all.

This is exactly my point.

Definitely don't need a study to convince me of that ;)

No drug dealer is going to turn down an 18 year old kid with $100 bucks to buy some dope lol. But you sure as fuck will get ID'd trying to buy a fuckin vanilla dutch if your under 18 haha.

What a joke the US is. Hell you can get a bag of dope around here for fucking the cost of a single beer at the bar..honestly you can get 2 for what it costs for a beer in manhattan.

So you're unfamiliar with the Opium Wars? Perhaps you could say that Chinese society wasn't that great before opium, but regardless, after the British started pumping it into China, addiction rates soared- some estimates put the number of addicts at 1/3rd the population. Then the two wars, and Chinese society was deeply harmed and humiliated.

It wouldn't be hard to argue that opium brought about the downfall of the Chinese society in the mid-1800's.

And comparing coca with cocaine and opium with morphine or heroin is a serious mistake. They're very, very different- the difference between a chunk of foam and a baseball bat. You can hit things with them both, but one is going to cause much more damage.

No they don't. They find that middle schoolers can get marijuana easier than ethanol and tobacco. MAJOR difference.
