Hey, I began suffering from cluster/ice pick head aches about 2 months ago and the pain is retarded. like a true 10/10, I have had major pain before, full on with tunnel vision and almost passing out, and these spikes of pain in my head are many times worse. it feels like I am being stabbed in the head with a red hot ice pick.

I got a script for Tylenol 2's 2 months ago and need to take 5-6 (cwe) to even blunt the pain a little, to get it to a 9/10.

my question is have any of you ever dealt with severe migraines and what did you say to your doctor to get something that helped, I am going to my doctor on monday next week and want to make sure I leave with something that will help.

I want to ask for just codeine pills, like 60mg pills, the codeine works a little but its really the only opiate I have tried, I don't want to come off as a drug seeker and I know some doctors are leery of the legitimacy of headache pain.

does anyone have any input. I am thinking about getting a referral to a pain specialist if the doctor doesn't seem to take it seriously.

this is really impacting my life, for the last 2 months I have been rendered useless and its getting worse.

im sorry, you should get some excedrin
thatd be tight if you got codiene.
u should ask for patches since its chronic

I've tried every over the counter pain killer and codeine is the only thing I have tried that even touched the pain.

I used to get migraines when I was younger but never as bad as I have them now.

its in my family tho, my father and sister also get them, although not cluster/icepick type.

Most people with cluster headaches attempt or commit suicide. You should really really really get help if this is your case. If your dr is being a prick find another one. That is no way to live. You're gonna need something stronger than codeine if you wish to blunt the pain of cluster headaches. Also request a MRI or something of the likes, so it doesn't appear you are just there to get meds. I wish you the best of luck.

I used to get migraines after I had my son, full on with aura.
I would have zig xag vision, numbness on my left side and it affected my speech, the 1st time it happened, everyone thought I was having a stroke. It's pretty scary and I know how you feel.

I was given sumatriptan, but you almost have to predict that one is coming because there is a very short window for you to get any effect from it and actually stop the migraine in it's tracks. They do work.

As an aside, I agree about the codeine. In fact codeine often does the opposite for me and sometimes i'd take a couple of ibuprofen too. I have never liked codeine though, far too many side effects.

My DOC is dihydrocodeine, and does actually help with headaches too, and doesn't make you feel like shit the next day.

You can get it over the counter here (UK) in the form of paramol, not sure where you are, but it's worth trying.

I hope you manage to find something that helps, it really can be debilatating and have a severe impact on every day life.

Good luck <3

Hydrocodone helps for everything, I could bang a prostitute and feel guilty and a Hydrocodone would help my guilt.. Conversation is biased, eat an Aleve or see a doctor.

I will tell you one thing though, if you begin experiencing frequent headrushes every time you stand after sitting down or laying down you need to see a doctor immediately, this could be symptomatic of a clot.

LSD and psilocybin often help people with cluster headaches.

See http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_article8.pdf

Needless to say, a doctor can't prescribe them for that condition. I've had migraine headaches myself since I was only seven years old, but they've become much less bad when I've gotten older.

Yea, they use LSD but have taken the fun shit out of it.. It's very interesting.

OP I am on topamax for migraines. It prevents them. But you should seriously get yourself checked out :)

Fuck hydrocodone.. lol Goddammit my pain dr fucked me.. Wrote my scripts for 4 weeks and the cunt receptionist made my appt for 5 weeks. Atleast I can go in a pick my scripts up today. I got some hydros and they didn't even take the WD away much less help with any pain. Once you hit a certain point hydros become useless.

First let me say i absolutley totally feel your pain!!! i have suffered from severe migraines since i was a little girl. sometimes they get so bad i have to go get a shot of demeral at the er. i have tried ever single meds under the sun for migraines and there has only been one thinng that has helped they r called fioricets they r a barbituate but if u ask your doc for them i dont think he will thinnk u r drug seeking bc thats what they r precricbed for. now in my case opiates actually give me a headache which has always sucked bc i am an opiate addict (go figue) anyways sorry t get off track the fioricets really r awesome though but sinnce u mentioned codeine helped they make the fioricets with codeine in them annd they r called something but if u ask fro the fioricets with codeine i am sure the doc will know what u r talkin about but yeah try the fioricets they really helpedme best wishes:)

ask for imitrex and lyrica it will help for that type of pain more than opiates would anyways.

Fioricet is what I got prescribed for headaches, but it made me feel worse. Caffeine is a classic headache reliever, along with acetaminophen. We aren't here to help you ask for drugs, but if you tell the doctor what he gave you isn't helping and you'd like to try something else, you can see what he suggests.

Not what you want to hear I'm sure, but opiates are rarely given for headaches.

exactly what i was gonna say. I have headaches, too, and opiates pretty much just make them worse. Fioricet works fairly well, tho. But you cant abuse it, or you'll end up with rebound headaches which are even worse. Try taking like 1 HBRW seed, ..Ive heard LSA compounds help a lot with severe headaches.

I use Treximet (a combination product of naproxen sodium and sumatriptan) as an abortive for my migraines (I don't get clusters, if you really have a cluster headache, go get an MRI, I'm serious). I also use LSD as a preventive and it works quite well.

Treximet is a wonder drug for me, I've had good results with all the triptans (and yes, I've taken all of them) for migraines. Opiates don't do much of anything if you have a real migraine/cluster headache but do wonders for regular headaches.

The worst headache I've ever had resulted in a trip to the ER and a demerol/orphenadrine/toradol combination IV, this is with the 1000mg of ibuprofen, 10mg of hydrocodone, 400mg of cyclobenzaprine, 170mg of sumatriptan and 1000mg of naproxen....and I was still in pain for 45 minutes after the IV was started.

I feel for you man. Don't go to the doctor looking for a Tylenol 3 script, because even if you get one, it's not gonna do shit.

i too get severe cluster headaches, so painful i had a MRI done to see if i had a tumor or something. i didn't so the cause of my severe headaches remains unknown.

i take it to myself to self medicate with oxycodone 60mg(extended release), 1500mg carisoprodol(the only good use i've found for it), 100mg pregabalin, and 1000mg acetaminophen. when a headache occurs, i take this combo and within 20min relief starts and at 1 hour the pain is gone.

while this combo seems a bit overkill, i have tried using less drugs but this is the lowest amount of meds that actually get rid of my headaches. my headaches occur randomly, so i always have this combonation of meds on me. i don't get headaches every day, so i'm not taking all this daily.
