Pet Peeves v. 5.0

This sign has been up in the lobby of a building I am at frequently for about 4 years. If I had made this sign the only possible explanation would be extreme over indulgence and it would be discarded and replaced the next day. There is locked glass in front of the sign or I would probably not be able to resist tossing it myself.

People who can’t handle their children in social settings like instores really pisses me off. Why can’t you control your kids or at least be a god damn parent. Don’t let your five year old wonder around spilling and breaking stuff. Jesus Christ it so irritating to see a kid start doing shit and then see their parents completely ignore their behavior.

I’m sure this peeve has been covered too but parents who bring their five year olds or even infants to action/scary movies. You idiots! Everyone knows that ten minutes in the kid is going to freak out. And Not only are you screwing up the movie for everyone else but you’re probably messing up your kids with that shit or at the very least giving them a week’s worth of nightmares.

Basically bad parenting in general really pisses me off.

People that haven't quite finished saying something and finish with, "and plus......" to carry on about something.

And plus this English not Mathematics. :p

Do you divide you're sentences as well.

Sounds silly indeed but something that irks me.

^A lot of people are quite passionate about that one. I'm trying to put more thought into using them. The use for pluralizing numbers and letters is acceptable to me but not by many. Oakland As or Oakland A's? If an apostrophe helps avoid confusion it is A-OK in my book.

^ not really. if you had spelled it "yuor" or "yoor", that would be a typo. you inserted an apostrophe and a letter 'e' which are not required.

the least you can do when you're criticising others for their poor use of the language is make sure your spelling and grammar are correct...

:)

There was a HEATED argument about this one in a previous pet peeves thread (Of Course I was at the center).

Most modern style and grammar guides say it is acceptable (and even preferable) to use an apostrophe to pluralize certain letters, numbers, and abbreviations if confusion would result from not doing so.

Example:

Incorrect:
As are hard to come by at This difficult university (sentence does not make sense)

Correct:
A's are hard to come by at this difficult university.

Also, regarding the Oakland A's, their hat has an apostrophe, so they seem to want it that way for their team.

Speaking of Apostrophes:

On my droid, the apostrophe (Which I use once per text message, on average) is one of the blue "symbol" keys, forcing me to press the "ALT" button to enter it, whereas the useless forward slash button is a standard white key !????

WTF !????

Bands that continue to tour with very few of the key original memebers and still proclaiming to be the "original". Guns N Roses is a current example with Axle Rose and no Slash. In fact Axel is sueing Slash because he is still the face in Guitar hero. Give me a fucking break. You were always the Garfunkle of that band and should be happy that any one wants to see you braided headed fail of a covers band.

Beach Boy's without Brian Wilson... ditto.

I can understand new members who have runs on the board contributing to the band such as AC/DC's Brian Johnson or Rolling Stone with Ronnie Wood.

Ahhh the age-old debate ;)
I too use the apostrophe in such a scenario, knowing full well that it's incorrect to use it like that, but yeah just to clarify and make it easier to read :)
