Why do most drugs that you smoke take a while to take effect?

I have one theory that I could think of; Is it that most of the time the chemicals themselves aren't actually psychoactive and they need to metabolize into something that is psychoactive?

Then again just THC or just JWH-018 or just Heroin could work themselves without being metabolized but I don't really know.
Or it could just be that chemicals absorb surprisingly slow through the lung lining (kinda ties in with the fact that I don't know if maybe just THC itself is psychoactive and maybe you just need a lot of it to get stoned).

So why is it that even if you smoke a drug it can take almost half an hour to kick in sometimes, and other ones like DMT or salvia can hit you in a few milliseconds?

Edit; WOOOOOOOO 69th post, I need to have a party.

What drugs are you smoking that take half an hour to hit? Most drugs that are meant for smoking are fairly fat-soluble and rapidly absorbed by the lung so the only delay is for the blood to get from your lungs to your head.

ive never heard of a smoked drug taking half an hour to kick in.

You all must have really shitty watches. I've never heard of weed hitting anyone faster than about 10 minutes. And JWH-018 takes over 20 minutes to hit me sometimes. So do other things that I smoke.

Smoking is actually one of the quickest ROA. In hits in quicker than snorting. Take THC, smoking it would kick in quicker than snorting it. Also, your probably thinking of how long it takes to "peak", not kick in. Its just that some drugs take longer to kick in than others. People smoke crack because it kicks in quicker than snorting. Same with heroin.

I've never smoked marijuana that takes anymore than 30 seconds to kick in.

^ No. I haven't ever had a drug with a comeup it's all one second you're not high the next you're falling over and running into walls.

Look, if you fucktards want to argue with me send me a PM but this thread is asking a question that you're not answering so either contribute or shut the fuck up.

Being argumentative isn't going to help your case. The reason nobody can provide a "straight" answer is because most drugs are, indeed, rapidly adsorbed into the bloodstream.

Perhaps it just takes you a little while to notice the effects? Salvia divinorum illustrates this point quite well...

The comeup of a drug will depend on how fast the soluble drug in your lung cells is delivered to the bloodstream. Whether or not you get a perceptual shift right away is dependent on many other factors, like mood, tolerance, and mental state.

What "drugs" are you referring to anyways?
Perhaps you're pulling a Clinton and not inhaling. Either that or you have shitty drugs.

And to sekio, what do you mean about salvia? It takes like 30 seconds to a minute to hit you. And it hits you hard. Not very much time to notice the effects ime, from normal to gone.

JWH hits you way faster than weed does for me, and doesn't last nearly as long.
With weed its a shift over a few minutes for me, starting about 20-30 seconds after my 1st hit.

Salvia has one of the fastest comeups around that can, in fact, leave you thinking "this is total bunk" one second and be tripping face before you finish the thought. It takes nowhere near 20 to 30 minutes for it to hit, which is what OP is proposing.

Actually he posted that salvia hits you super fast unlike other "drugs" . Not trying to argue i think u just misread his post.
Just wondering what he is comparing it to.

No, try re-reading it. I asked why some drugs take half an hour to hit and why some, like salvia and DMT, can hit in a few milliseconds.

edit: Noticed the post above me, yep.

^ Placebo isn't fun, it's all in your head, there's no actual euphoria or floaty-feeling.

This is a little OT but what's the most disconnecting drug you all know on here? By disconnecting I mean you have absolutely no control of your body and you think that you're flying around the world or something. I guess some people would say the most out of body.
Also when you're really tripping balls on salvia is it lucid hallucination (like can you control it) or is it completely random and changing from person to person?

Back on topic. No one replied yet so I'm just going to assume it's because the lungs don't absorb some chems as fast as others.

You mean dissociative?

If dissociative means you can't even tell that you're actually alive anymore and it's pretty much a more real-feeling version of a dream where you can do whatever the fuck you want while your real body lays there and convulses or whatever, then yes, dissociative.

Yep. You just described Ketamine (except the convulse part...you can't move)

I love getting oral surgery, you get more than 10 drugs, 90% of which are schedule III or higher :D

I also loved how when I was 15 my older brother got his wisdom teeth removed and he was such a lightweight with the drugs he was acting like a mental patient for like 5 hours after he came off them.

Me on the other hand, I kept it to myself enjoying the pretty colors and trying to have a lucid-waking-dream.

pot is like...i feel like im getting high..but i dont peak for about 10-15 minutes...

cigs are quick too....

i feel like i get what your saying though

smoking shit makes you feel it quicker

but it takes a little for the full effects
