A lawsuit alleges that three Missouri police officers suffered permanent injuries after inhaling poisonous vapors in a 2007 raid on a methamphetamine lab.

The current and former officers in Butler, Mo., allege in the lawsuit filed this week in federal court in Kansas City that they were not properly trained in the risks of meth labs and in the use of available protective equipment.

The lawsuit was filed against the current and former police chiefs of the city, which is about an hour south of Kansas City, as well as the former mayor of Butler, who is now deceased.

After the November 2007 raid, officers Mark Frost, Harold Anderson and Kenneth Rush were hospitalized for about a week with chemically induced pneumonia and heart murmurs, the lawsuit says.

All will suffer lifelong health problems as a result, the lawsuit alleged, although all three continue to work in law enforcement.

Frost is still an officer in Butler. Anderson is the Bates County, Mo., sheriff. Rush works for the sheriff’s department.

Butler Police Chief Jim Garnett said Friday that he had not seen the lawsuit and could not comment on the allegations.

The suit contends that Butler officials had obtained a grant to buy breathing masks to protect officers from meth lab fumes but had not provided training in their use.

Your given more or less a gas mask to protect you from meth fumes, you enter a meth lab without wearing it, and say you weren't trained properly?

How about no - your dumb - shut up and deal because what the hell else would you do with a gas mask given to you to protect you from meth lab fumes - other than WEAR IT WHILE ENTERING A POSSIBLE METH LAB.

I really hope they lose this suit.

what a bunch of pussies, firefighters dont complain about ash inhalation
drug fighters shouldnt bitch either

this is actually a fairly bright thing to do for cops anyway. they aint stupid, they saw an opporunity and took it, good for them, they clearly didnt expect serious health risks and from the sound of things they didnt get any serious health injurious. they gonna make sum cash on this suit, reminds me of the mcdonals case - "i didnt know the coffee was hot".

Like, if they had been told to raid the meth lab and weren't given gas masks that would MAYBE be acceptable. But giving them gas masks, and then them not putting them on and saying they weren't trained? Dude... YOU FUCKING PUT IT ON> THERE....! YOUR TRAINED!.

why the fuck WOULDNT you wanna wear a gasmask when you raid a methlab, especially if you have one?
a little common sense goes a long way

the only logic i see here is they must have consulted a lawer and been told they would have a case if such a hypathetical situation was 2 occur. i dont think the mentally handicap are allowed to become cops. well, on second thought.....

actually phosphine and hydrogen sulphide are the most dangerous. Also a whole pile of potentially dangerous solvents and meth byproducts.

I get quite annoyed when people who choose to work in a job that has inherent risks then start to whine about it when they come to some kind of harm that they will have been warned about from the start.

If you want to be a police officer and enjoy all of the trappings of being in such a position (power trips, acting out god complex and being able to commit criminal acts with impunity) then you should be prepared to accept some of the negative consequences.

Yeah fuck those cops, how hard is it to put a gasmask on. any experienced pothead can.

btw, this is worse than the mcdonalds case. they shouldn't make their coffee so damn hot. which takes me off topic to: why the hell do people make coffee/tea so fucking hot? i've got burnt so many times from this. does it have to be 200 degrees F (90C) ? why not more like 120/130F (~50C)? it can dissolve and stay warm just fine at lower temperatures.
