Triptan migraine medicine + LSD?

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've posted last, but I wanted to ask a quick question in the hopes that someone here might have some experience with this. My girlfriend has been having migraines recently, and has seen a doctor who has tried a few things. Currently she is prescribed Zomig. Over the weekend, my girlfriend and I took about 2 hits of acid each and went to a concert. By the time the concert was over, she and I both had developed headaches. I have had issues with migraines for a long time, but haven't had many recently. I was surprised that I had a migraine as I've never gotten one while under the influence of psychedelics before. By the time we got home, her head was still hurting, but mine hurt so badly that I had to go into a dark room, as I was highly sensitive to light and was getting very nauseated. I had never looked into her medication before, but she offered me one and I was desperate, so I tried it. Within 45 minutes, my headache was gone, before the nausea even, but that went away shortly thereafter also.

It wasn't until the next day that I looked into it a little more and learned that Zomig is a triptan, which are 5-HT1B and 5-HT1D serotonin receptor agonists. Now, I know LSD is active mainly at the 5-HT2A receptors, but from what I am reading, it is not recommended to combine LSD with triptans. I'm not sure however, if that is a safety issue, or if one will just interfere with the other, or if there is a legitimate risk of developing serotonin syndrome. If there is a safety risk I will avoid the combo in the future, but it worked so well that I'd like to know for sure. I didn't notice any adverse effects from it at the time. I haven't been able to find a lot of information on it since there obviously isn't much research with LSD going on these days, but I was hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on the situation.

LSD is an agonist of basically all 5-HT receptors, 5-HT1D and 5-HT1B included. I've been prescribed every triptan under the sun (and a whole slew of other migraine drugs, but thats another post) and I would say, don't combine them...my doctor specifically warned me about combining my triptans (I've taken Zomig, Treximet is the best one as far as killing your migraine dead in its tracks) with other drugs, and to read the label of any OTC drug I'm taking.

I wanna say I've heard stories about people taking triptan migraine medication and SSRIs and having serotonin syndrome.

On a positive note, I have used, and continue to use, LSD as a treatment for my migraines, I'm free of migraines 4-6 months after my last LSD trip, and I have a lot less migraines in general since I've started using LSD.

That being said, it may be safe, it may not be...but it probably isn't. You're right, there is basically no research on LSD happening right now, however there is a lot research on triptans (and the other ergot-based drugs, older migraine medicine closely related to LSD, such as dihydroergotamine/DHE-45) and their method of action is basically the same as LSD, the triptans are simply much more selective with which 5-HT subtypes they target, which is why they're not psychedelic.

However, I do get the electric body feel that LSD and the 2C's give me when I take my migraine medicine, as well as really psychedelic dreams.

Long story short...don't combine them unless you really really have to. I carry naproxen sodium (Aleve) with me whenever I take psychedelics in case of the familiar coming-down-off-psychedelics-headache. I've noticed that 2C's cause much worse headaches then LSD does, but that might just be me.

I also found it to be the best thing for both migraines and cluster headaches. No other prescription medicine could touch my constant stabbing headaches. It could stop the worst chronic headaches and keep them away for months after a single use and when they came back they weren't as bad as before.

Are you sure that what you and your girlfriend had was real LSD and not one of the DOx chemicals being passed off as acid these days? There is a lot of anecdotal evidence showing LSD to be a potent long lasting remedy for headaches involving the trigeminal nerve.

As far as the DOx vs LSD thing, I really think what I had was real LSD. It only lasted about 6ish hours, so it definitely wasn't one of the longer lasting dox compounds. I've done acid from the same sheet before, and had regular, acid-like trips. The only difference this time was that the acid had been left in a car for about a week during a heat wave. We were concerned it wouldn't work at all, but that certainly wasn't the case.

I was also under the impression that LSD is good at preventing headaches, which is why I was surprised that this happened. I've always wondered what it would be like to have a headache during a trip, but it had never happened so far and I assumed it was because LSD was helping to prevent it. Now I don't know.

I think that for now we will avoid the combination unless someone can supply any evidence that it has been proven safe.. At the time, I didn't realize the similarities in the medicine until the next day. I also wonder if the dosage would play a part in the risk, or if it's just the combination in general. I would think with a relatively low dose of each the risk would be minimal, but again, I'd rather not take the risk unless I have no alternative, which I doubt will ever happen again.
