Opioids Getting opiates prescribed for depression

I occasionally hear about this. A kid in a YouTube video claims he got oxycodone for depression, but only after being on all kinds of shit that didn't work. I came across a news article about 7 months ago that stated an individual who had died of an overdose was prescribed oxycodone for depression. My psychiatrist told me that once or twice he's prescribed hydrocodone (but he said he'd only considering doing it if I tried all the conventional shit first.) A person on the following page claims she was given morphine, http://pages.citebite.com/h2l5i7l9aqah

The last time I took oxycodone my Uncle gave me what was left in a bottle he had, only two and a half pill, ~12.5 mg. I thought I needed at least 20 mg to feel effects, but I was amazed at how powerful it was. A dose like that does just that: relieve my depression and anxiety. Emphasis on "relieves." It gets rid of it. I'm not "high" as assholes derisively like to call it. It just brings my brain to normal levels. Any by the way if I do end up getting a prescription I would try just taking it once a day, and if I started to build up a tolerance, I'd try every other day. Because even though I have really bad depression, I've found that if I get a mood boost I can kind of pick it up naturally from there. Honestly I don't care if I get addicted, I know that may sound stupid, but a prescription for depression would be a meager amount and I'd have to conserve the pills. And for my long-term well-being, that's most likely a good thing.

I'm just afraid that doctor's will look at me like I'm crazy or a drug addict if I say I'm only willing to take opiates. What do you guys think? I have insurance so the doctors visits won't cost me anything. Is it worth my time?

to me, it's a long and uncertain process that is a waste of time, you might as well buy em off the street. I'm not sure how much insurance would pay for the pills but you'd probably still have to pay.

However, you might want to just tell your doctor about your depression. The medication he gives might work better than oxies without the same addiction factor. If your looking for rec. oxies, I would say just get em from the street.

yea.... I'd say the 1/1,000,000 chance aint worth trying

and of course opiates make you happy, thats pretty much what they do...I don't recommend using opiates for depression in almost any circumstance (although I've seen a suicidal person given opiates, and at least for the time being, was no longer a threat to himself.....until WD's)

Opiates give you euphoria, and a sense of well being. I know whenever i'm in a tough spot they help out extremely. Although I use them for pain, they still help perk up my mood.

Opiates make people who are dieing feel good. I'm sure they would be the best thing for depression, however it's not going to happen.

No Dr. in there right mind is going to give you opiates for depression. And if they do maybe you'll get some vicodin. Your better off taking them for pain, and then having that as a benefit.

And taking a opiate once a day isn't going to work either. Eventually after a week your going to need to start taking it more and more and more. That's just the name of the game. If you have prescription for the whole month, your going to get addicted, period.

I've heard of people getting Dexedrine that dont respond well to other anti-depressents. Maybe you should check that out.

They work great for depression, at first, but I think that effect goes away once your tolerance rises, and in turn you just feel normal(and "normal" could be depressed for some) once you become dependent/addicted to opiates. I don't think any doctor, at least in the USA, under the age of 60 would ever Rx opiates for depression, nor should they, imo...this is coming from someone who uses opiates for depression, and is addicted to them...

Of course they will. :\ They have enough troubles with people faking pain and shitto get opiates, they will laugh If you ask them freakin' OXY because you are depressed. Of course you won't be depressed if you're on oxy, you're going to be HIGH ^^

Have you tried all types of AD's? It took me 5 tries before finding one that worked, but I don't take it anymore for personnal reasons...
Regular AD's are underated IMO. Most people knock it off because "It doens't get you high and it takes weeks to start working", but it's always better to make your own opinion.

I now treat my depression with (prescribed) Valium (Diazepam 40mg/day), and 2mg/night of Noctamide (Lormetazepam) for chronic insomnia :| ).
But benzo tolerance is a bitch. And you would have the same tolerance problems with opiates , don't fool yourself by saying:
"I would try just taking it once a day, and if I started to build up a tolerance, I'd try every other day."
Not trying to be a dick, but you won't.

About Lormetazepam, I often compare it to Rohypnol (Flunitrazepam).
Honestly, If I was blind-tested, I'm not even sure I could tell the difference between the highs ^^'

Well, I like it, maybe not in my top 3 (Diazepam, Midazolam and Loprazolam) but a good benzo overall =)

OP: have you ever used tramadol? i think you would have a lot easier time / a better chance of getting that scripted for depression than an opiate like oxycodone. But i can't say it is impossible to get oxy scripted for that reason as you have already stated you know it has been done.

I use opiates for CP, but as a side effect, they do reliably correct my depression. This is with 3+ years of daily use, and they work as well for the depression today as they did 3+ years ago.

You can keep tolerance at bay if you use proper methods such as DXM dosing and using potentiators. My first year on opiates I did not know about this, and my tolerance increased by a crazy amount. However, after a year I started to manage it with DXM and Benadryl, and for the last two years, my tolerance has only increased by a very small amount, in regards to pain control and depression reduction effects.

i doubt a legit doctor would prescribe opiates for depression in most if not all cases. there is a forum out there that has lists of doctors that will prescribe you what you need just search google

kratom is not an opiate, it does bind to the opiate receptors thus the slight opiate effect and it can also cure sickness. kratom has a withdrawal of 4-5 days which i experienced first hand, its nazty8)

I would say the kratom buzz it like a slight opiate mixed with alot of coffee.
