[MEGA] Every Year's Community Growing advice, tips, tricks, & experiences

^ Yeah, I agree, keeping good mums (i.e. the cream of the cream) is something every grower should do. It makes growing much easier.

You only need about 8" x 8" to keep a bonsai mum quite easily.

Also, I would try to hold back atleast 2 seeds of each strain, so you have the originals. So start like 3 of each strain..assuming you got 5 seeds of each. If you only start 1 of something and it's a boy, you will not have the strain in this cycle to see how it comes out. Always start more than 1 seed of a particular strain.

Half of my crop is down and hanging. The rest are coming down tonight, they have been sitting in total darkness, once I had them hanging, I turned the light off, it's not good to dry in a warm and lighted area. I am limited on space so this is my only option. However, once I upsize the clones, the light will be lowered and what is hanging will not be in direct light.

Hey Muncheez, I noticed you haven't trimmed the harvest yet. I was wondering how long you let them hang until you trim and if there is a particular reason why you wait to do the trimming.

In 7-10 days, I will do a final trimming and save all the close trichome covered leaves for making bubble hash :-D. Plus I think its easier to trim everything when its dry, I'm sure people opinions/experiences vary on that subject.

Cool. I will have to try that with one of my harvest. I have been trimming immediately and I am not sure which way is more popular/common tbh. I mostly make ISO hash with my trim because I usually don't have enough trim to make bubble hash worth while. Maybe someday...

^ Oldtimer1 (you heard of him Blowmonkey? Something tells me you must have. If you have you'll know why I'm mentioning him) has found through trials of many plants grown SOG style that 20/4 actually yields more than the generally accepted 18/6 but that going above 20/4 gives you ever diminishing yields.

^^weird I have never heard that if u veg for 24/0 that you get a poorer yield.... the cycle that I just finished I vegged for 24/0 and this is my nicest and from what I can tell, the highest yielding as well..I won't know til everything is down, dried, and cured. I'm not against 18/6 at all, I was thinking of going back to that, but if AE is suggesting that 20/4 works better, then ill go with that.

^ well you have to decide who's advice you trust. In my opinion, yes you would get a higher yield and it is worth it. However, you'll spend more on the extra two hours of electricity (which isn't that much to be honest).

I do it myself and think it works.

edit: About vegging for 24 hours. I don't think it necessarilly will reduce your yield by much. I just don't think that for what you spend on electricity you get as much of a return as you'd expect, since the plants need a period of recovery during the lights off period. I think for maximum return on your investment in running costs, 20 hours is optimum.

Having said that, almost everyone uses 18/6 and because of convention more than anything else will tell you do this. I think the only way to know for sure in your own mind is to do a couple of crops testing 18/6, 20/4 and even 24/0. If you do this, you need to keep everything the same, including nutrients, additives, dosages and so on, since changing multiple factors at once will only complicate your end result.

Oh, and as for your seeds, I can only really comment on the White Widow as I've tried this and liked it a lot. Are they feminized seeds? If so, are you aware of the benefits of regular seeds and the possible disadvantages of feminized seeds?

I did some research and decided to go with 21/3 myself. Odd numbers I know but my seeds had just sprouted at record speed in the 3 years growing outdoors. I know its a diffrent game but I do believe that the 3 hours rest is just enough rest.

Think about a body. Does it function best at 24/7? No. It needs too rest. I notice dramatic changes in my plants when I take them out of the spare bedroom three hours later. My plants are 2 days old. There sprouted, and atleast an inch above ground.

And I am using flourlecent, only 48W at. Im putting another bulb in next week, then switching over to 250w HID in 2 weeks. Thanks for everyones advice! I'll have some baby pictures at the end of the week. Two indicas, a sativa, and hybrid. (I used my own seeds from sexing this growing season, that's how I know.)

Well, Im gonna start flowering soon, my Afghan Kush is 18 Inches, same with both Northern Lights, one of the northern lights is sick(same one that always has been, I just kinda but it on the back burner , if it comes through it, does, if it does, no big deal,
As for flowering, well, Since I have plants that are all about 10 inches, and two that are 18, Im guessing flowering might be a bit difficult? Should I top my plants and let them get bushy until they all reach the same height , or just go on about flowering.

Also, how do I go about it, ??
Just flush the pots w/ 5 times the ammount of water and then ? put under HPS and start with Flowering nutes the next water?

If you don't want to top them, you may simply raise the shorter ones up on another pot to make them all the same height. If you do top them, I recommend giving them a little more time in vegetation to recover from the stress before flowering (changing lights AND times of day (which is stressful in itself to the plants)).

As for flushing them, there is no need to unless they are over-nuted OR you are done feeding them and preparing for harvest. If this is not the case, there is no need to flush.

^^agreed..no need to flush, I actually start giving them bloom nutes about a week-10 days before I switch to 12/12.
I also prop my shorter ones up on an upside down empty pot as well..works great!!

W0lf...trimming after they are dry is easier because once the buds shrink, you can get to more of the leaf stems, when they are wet and plump you have to dig into the bud to get to some of the leaf bases..know what I mean? Try it, you will probably prefer it...the leaves also flake off pretty easily when they are crispy.

I would recommend making a bud trimmer. It's dead easy (making it and using it too).

Edit I just wanted to say, my plants (all six of them) in my GT424 have literally doubled in size in the last three days!! Obviously they won't continue to double in size every few days, but the growth is very fast indeed.

It's absolutely amazing!

How do they work AE? What do the buds come out looking like? I'm very careful and meticulous lol...also, it doesn't matter so much for me..I trim my medicine as I need it..maybe a q at a time of 2 different kinds or whatever...and then do more when I start getting low.

EDIT: I do all the big fan leaves while they are still standing in the pots, then chop em and hang em..after 7-10 days, ill cut all the buds off, may trim up a bit more as I do this, then start the curing process....which that is a whole other debate in itself hahaha

You do the first rough trim using the DIY trimmer and then the rest of the delicate work by hand (the sort of trimming no machine can do). It saves time if you've got a fuck load of bud to do, which is invariably the case if you're using a big light.

Here's a video of one in action. Bud trimmer.

You need the following items:

1x Compact Rotary Tool
1x RC Propeller
1 Old Chair
a Load of bicycle spokes
Some Wood
Some Screws

Once I have a chance I will check that video out thx!.. I just don't want to jostle em around to much and break all those wonderful trich heads :)

^ Oh, no, you don't need to worry about that. It doesn't need to touch the buds at all. It won't break any heads at all in all likelihood or hardly any. I think people worry about that too much IMO. Take a look at the video, it's not long. You'll see what I mean.

Although I personally would go for 20/4 rather than 21/3, 21/3 is leaps and bounds better than either 24/0 or 18/6. You'll find your yield goes up and I'm sure you'll keep to it at the end.

The aim is to get the max yield per kWh.

Well, I do have them on other pots, so everything is at an even level, I was just wanting all of my plants to be 16 inches or so , instead of just flowering them at 6-10 inches., Is this a bad idea, or worth doing?
And how would I go about it if it there was a healthy way to do it
Would I just keep cutting off the branch of the new growth of the larger plant, or just take scissors and keep cutting the new growth.
I know theres a chemical that slows growth, but I dont want to use that ( I would think its not healthy for the plant)
Anyways, let me know what you all think,
I've got 2 healthy 16-18 inch plants, 1 unhealthy 18 inch plant, and 4 plants around the height of 6 inches - 10 inches. any ideas.
Anyone know around how much that would produce if flowered now?

Keep Vegging. 18inch will get you MABE 14grams. Not worth it.

The truth is everyone wants to grow, but no one wants to grow. Meaning EVERYONE wants free bud, money for selling it etc, but no one wants too put the time and dedication and money into it. You sound like one of them. If you want to put these fairly small plants into flowring, if you get an oz all together Ill be shocked. But it sounds like you don't really have what it takes to make them better so I suggest do it now before you lose intrest.

Sorry to be so blunt, it's just true.

Prelude, I think you could yield more than 14g on an 18" plant, since it is an indica dom. plant.

Bear in mind they'll probably double or even triple in height during flowering.

6-10 inches is too small though. The longer you veg the higher your yield.

80mg, were your comments about not wanting to 'grow, put time, money & dedication into growing' directed at me as well as Prelude (you quoted me so it's hard to tell)?

Are you fucking kidding me? Way to make an ignorant blanket statement and diss almost every grower on this board. YOU have no fucking clue how much hard work, time and money I have put in, so screw you to say EVERYONE wants free bud without putting in the work and money...go fuck yourself. You don't seem to know shit about growing, the ridiculous claims that you have made is nausiating.

Prelude...please read what you wrote over again...I can't believe that you would even (for a min) entertain the thought of slowing & cutting your healthiest and most vigourous plants just so the weaklings can catch up...ARE YOU CRAZY or just really inexperienced?...cause that sounds just plain ole dumb! Think about it, you want to cut off any new growth the plant is pushing out and then when your ready to let it take off you expect it to just start exploding with growth?? It doesn't work that way..you will be stressing the shit out of your healthy ones with the hope that the weaker ones will catch up..that's just ridiculous.

I told you, bending (super-cropping) helps make them bushy, instead of really tall...have you tried anything that people have suggested? Flowering at 8-10 inches isn't the worst thing in the world...they continue to veg atleast the first 2 weeks of flowering, so even at 10 inches, if you have the right strain, you can easily obtain a pretty decent yield..will they be the cream of the crop?..NO!, but you will get more off of them than what 80MG claims, and I wouldn't put your healthiest ones in jeapordy (sp) for the sake of the weaker ones.
