Opioids Hydrocodone causing toothache?

Lately I've had three aching front teeth, all next to each other. I don't grind my teeth while awake, I don't think I do while sleeping. If I did I think more than two-three teeth would be hurting. I haven't hurt my teeth at all.

Anyone experience a toothache from hydrocodone use? Could it be caused by the codeine or apap?
 
People with large habits over time often have teeth problems but this is usually do to salivating less + eating lots of sweets + poor hygiene. I'm not sure how acute doses could cause tooth pain... not that I'm saying its impossible.
 
^methadone is certainly the worst in this regard but all of them affect salivation to some extent, many people have more of a sweet tooth from opioids and with all drugs, people far gone will have poor hygiene.
 
Tooth damage comes as a result of other things, it's not directly related. Although that's damage over a long period, I don't know any medical reason that either of those substances cause any pain.

The only pain I know to be caused by anti painkiller/anti-inflammatory is in regards to nsaids & stomach ulcers
 
unless you have a cavity, because a cavity is like an open wound and anything can make your tooth ace if its a cavity, then no its not the codone, do you brush your teeth 3 times a day?
 
Honestly I have never heard of this one as far as short term high usage. The only relation I know of is long term opiate use sometimes leading to tooth decay. Due to the habbits you get into outside the opiate, but not from the opiate themselves.

Cane have you heard about Methadone pills causing tooth problems? or just liquid Methadone?

When i went to the Methadone clinic (from early 07 to early 08, almost a year) i was told by a few different people that the liquid does rot teeth out but i never noticed anything after close to a year of dosing at my old clinic.

From time to time i also take the 10mg pills, but i don't let them dissolve in my mouth i just swallow them, so i'm guessing that wont have any effect on my teeth.

anyways just curious.
 
Pills also... and other opioids beyond methadone. People believed it was the actual methadone liquid for a while but its indirect factors like jam I mentioned.
 
Jesus, am I the only person who is salivating WAY MORE when I'm on opiates?
I took 60 mg of morphine (I don't have much of a tolerance) yesterday and today and people were actually saying that they could hear that my mouth had more saliva in it, that's how bad it was. My mouth was wet as a motherfucker. I never get dry mouth on morphine or oxycodone.
 
I don't think I salivate anymore than usual when on opiates. Nor do I eat more sweets.

This pain is across three teeth, the incisor and the teeth on each side. It's a dull kinda steady pain that is in the whole tooth and gum area. If I move the tooth it relives the pain temporarily.

Weird thing is I stopped taking hydrocodone for two days and the pain started to go away. I started again and the next day the pain was back full force. I've been taking it for about two years now and this is the first time this started. I did take some oxycodone this weekend instead of hydro, then this started.

I brush twice a day.
 
^most salivate LESS with opioids... this causes less protection for the teeth essentially and certainly not EVERYONE will eat sweets or have poor hygiene. People noticed a correlation between hardcore opiate addicts/methadone users and teeth problems and I was explaining the likely causes of that correlation.

I think in your case its more likely coincidence than causation but none of us can tell you for sure.
 
hydrocodone always made me clench my jaw like crazy. you sure you're not grinding your teeth at night?

because of prednisone and lithium i've had root canals and crowns done to almost every tooth. for me ibuprofen works far better than oxy and methadone for dental pain.

^good call... that's certainly possible. Do opioids make your jaw clench, OP? Even if you don't notice it, it might occur when you're asleep.
