Please help. I need advice.

So, I looked through most of the thread that had to do with what I'm about to ask, so I figured I'de start a new one.

Lately I have been getting into shooting heroin after being addicted to opiates, mainly pills (high MG, d's, oc). I didn't start shooting things till I did heroin for the first time though. So, after that I would shoot pills or heroin on and off. Lately, it's slowly becoming a switch with heroin coming first. Since that had happened I have missed with almost a whole shot, been shooting in the same two vein but different sites sometimes hitting the same spot for convenience , and had been using a dull needle for a couple days. So that being said I woke up this morning with a very sore feeling (sort of like a sore muscle but some soreness up my veins in the inside of my arm where ive been shooting up. I was wondering if this could be a symptom of a forming abscess from the missed shot or just soreness from increasing my use, or hopefully not signs of infection... I really hope that is not the case, so please no one post something to just scare me rather than help. Thank you for any advice or explaintion of what this is..

you're building scar tissue and you are bruising your vein wall. Everytime you shoot up you build more and more scar tissue, as well as bruise yourself more and more. I suggest switching it up and giving yourself a break in certain areas.

I have a hunch that this problem is due to your dull needle. just spend the 3 dollars or whatever and get yourself a bag of needles at the local pharmacy. I am pretty sure you should have no problem picking up some fresh sticks as long as you know exactly what you are asking for.

thats what I was thinking also and what I've been told by my friends. Yea. thats what it feels like is a bruise. I guess I should switch arms?

pretty much this.....time to mix it up......

HOWEVER......please be very safe, id suggest researching safe injection sites on the body.......there are also many helpful threads on BL....

well the kid above has a good point too. I work at the national navy medical center in Maryland part time, so i know what i'm talking about sort of hah, i also shoot up. Yeah switch arms and get a new needle. I suggest you get a really stretchy tourniquet, as well as new needles and alcohol pads. It can also have to do with your cut of heroin. I don't want to scare you but some cuts in shitty heroin eat you from the inside out. I kid you not ive seen a man with an arm where you can see the white of his bone. But i doubt it's that. How long have you been shooting up?

I'de say for about a month now. I just looked at it in the light and the part that is mostly sore is a little red. It may havent been because i keep pushing on it to feel it, so hopefully it goes away soon. I think i need to space out my use with needles. It scares me and makes me really nervous. Did anyone else feel like that before?

if it was an abscess wouldn't I be able to sort of feel the ball of puss? and dont infections usualy start in one place and then spread rather than being a red spot? idk. im trying to talk myself down.

Yeah when you bruise and hurt it's a little scary but it's no big deal. Stop pushing on it an already fucked with vein can and will collapse.

something else to concern yourself with is the fact that you may be going too far into your arm with the needle and bruising muscle or other tissue inside your arm. this tissue is also very sensitive and easy to bruise, such as your nerves and things like that

Sweety you dont have an infection. Youd know.

That's a good point. Do you use long or short? I use long but I also take blood from people all the time and you have to do it shallowly.

yes i use long. I have pretty big veins though and i hit at a very flat-like angle. I also am gonna get my girl to get her friend to get us some more rigs. Ok, this is good to hear. thank you all for your acknowledgement.

Ok, so this morning before work I shot up into the other arm, which was a little more difficult because one, it hurt more because they are fresh, and two the veins arm smaller or just hiding more. But I have a sore left arm now... hahaha. So just wondering if this could be because I havent ever put a needle into these veins or if I could be hitting muscle tissue. Idk. I saw a guide to shooting up on BL but now i can't find it. I think the angle I go at has not been perfected if tht makes sense. If anyone knows the link can you post it please?

I looked around and didnt see the thread your looking for maybe there is a megathread hiding somewhere but maybe the herion megathread can help with some advice as there def. a lot of IV techniques discussed there.

You def need to use a fresh needle as they dull very quickly, go to a pharmacy near you and buy some insulin needles. and switching sites is def another good idea. You've prolly seen this picture on BL before but its important

yea I try to as much as possible but here in Richmond we cant get rigs without perscription and all this shit... Idk, maybe i should use a short needle insead of a long one because my veins dont really hide. I may be poking through my vein and making them sore and even hitting muscle as someone suggested earlier. I just want to know what it is really badly. It's making me nervous and sort of pissed off that I cant just get a clean hit everytime. I guess i need more time with a needle to be able to get a perfect score huh? Hopefully this is a normal thing to happen for someone just starting out on injecting drugs...

Same thing happened to me. I always shoot up in the same area on my right arm because I find it difficult to find a vein anywhere else. I used a dull needle once and when I woke up the next morning, my arm was extremely sore and there was a small, hard bump at the injection site. It freaked me out so I stopped using that arm and kept it clean. It went away after a week or so. Don't use dull needles and be careful with the long tips. They're easier to use especially if you're new, but they involve more risks as far as hitting muscle and going all the way through the vein. I know getting needles in VA is a pain in the ass, but the effort pays off if you're gonna do it. Try ordering them online. I know there's a few pharmacies in the Richmond area that have never asked me for a prescription. You just gotta try.

You can buy them online and have them delivered.

And yes, I would recommend getting 5/16" tips (aka short tips), if you have veins that are close to the surface, you shouldn't need 1/2" tips.

That's what I do.. getpinz.com They're really cheap too

And Captain.Heroin is right.. If you have protruding veins it's almost detrimental and def. unnecessary to be using 1/2" tips.. I also have veins that stick out and I would only use 1/2" for last resort..

Check out the IV Complications Mega Thread for your future missed shot questions.

Keep us updated in that thread if it still hasn't healed or if you needed to get medical assistance. By now, it should have healed if it was going to at all. I hope you are doing well
