Hi all,
Iwould love some responses to my questions because you are the guys to ask these things. hehe.
Anyway, Im in a Suboxone program @ 16mg/day. I have to come to the clinic everyday to get the dose for six months, Then i get to get home some dosages.

This is the thing, me and the staff have nudged the water between Bupe and Methadone treatment. But im really scared if I go through this horrible irritation/agitation before i get my right dose.... thats what happened when i started the Bupe.... so how do Methadone compare to that?

My last question, do we have people here who made the switch from Subutex/Suboxone to -> Methadone ?
And was it worth it?, like less cravings for opiates and stuff?

Thanks!

HELP ME AND PLEASE READ !!!!

I want to get off this shit. I don't like opiate highs, or nods anymore. I know its been rough, and could be possibly rougher than heroin wd but somehow I'm doubting it (crosses fingers). Ok so anyway what is best 2mg decrease which is what I did today every week or every other week? Also is 2mgs pretty good? I just want to get to 80-90 and be comfortable and keep doing this. I do NOT want any cold turkey shit going on. As a side note I don't know if it was a bug , but when I dropped 5mgs last time, it felt horrrribbbllleeee for 3 weeks it seemed. I don't like That feeling ever so let me know any ideas any experts at this knows , and by experts I mean users that are tapering or tapered, and give me some feedback. This is super rough on me because I am young. Too young to be living like this. I was at 110, and it barely held me so I started decreasing. I decided I wanted to taper not because it didnt get me high, but because sometimes I was worried about my breathing, and I shouldn't be afraid to sleep and wake up at night. I am not at 103.

I am also very concerned the nurse dispensing the methadone is acting weird toward me and giving me Different doses as I SAW her type in my number wrong in the computer ONCE just a few weeks ago and it nearly killed me......I got extremely fucked up towards midnight and had the worse breathing/sleep apnea I have had in my life. :|:|:|:|:|

Well, you know from personal experience that 5mg at a time is too much and 2mg is tolerable. I'd try maybe 3 or 4mg at a time to try to speed it up a bit, but 103mg of methadone is a lot and will take time to taper off of. It is an unfortunate situation that you are in, being at a dose so high. It obviously took some time for your tolerance to get up to 110mg though!

Just go about the next few months getting yourself in a position where you'll actually be reasonably able to quit. Once your dose back to ~30mg, you're back to the "starter dose" and will be making great progress. Just commit yourself to getting to a lower dose first, and then from there, worry about quitting.

I went from methadone to bupe, but I think that's good enough to get you a fair opinion...

I find that methadone is more potent of an intoxicant than buprenorphine by a good bit, especially when taken daily. Bupe eventually becomes almost entirely "in the background" for me, while methadone stays front and center, giving strong effects with every dose. This doesn't mean that the buzz from methadone is great forever; it does diminish considerably over time. It doesn't ever quite fade as much as bupe does though, IME.

Methadone has other things that I view as downsides, such as the ability to increase the dose to ridiculous levels. It also has a very unpleasant withdrawal by pretty much all accounts.

If you're serious about switching to methadone so that you can get your daily buzz, it's not a horrible option. It is good for doing just that. Beware of getting on a high dose of methadone though, as the post I replied to above this one clearly shows where the danger lies...

Hi, I'm on MMT, currently taking 10 to 15mg every day. If I wanted to take some morphine, how much would do the trick, plugged or parachuted?
I'm thinking on taking a 100mg capsule crushed and plugged, would 200mg be too much? Thanks.

It's so hard to say because morphine is absorbed so differently in different people. I wouldn't expect for the methadone blockade effect to be in full effect at 10-15mg daily, so I would expect that taking morphine on top would just give additional effects, in which case dosing should not be too difficult... Just build up to the effects that you want.

im on 40 mg of methadone a day, been on for about a month. before that i was clean for 2 weeks, and before that. on suboxone for 2 weeks. but the suboxone didnt work right and gave me bad side effects. the methadone is much much better. but im worried cuz a lot of people seem to develop the same relationship with methadone as the problem they had with other opiates. i dont want to start a whole other nightmare. that said, it seems that having it regulated, dispensed and checked by a doctor will make it a lot easier to get off it. is methadone treatment as bad as some pople say? of course there are opinions from both extremes. it helps me hugely to feel good, be functional and not have cravings. being tired, depressed, anxious and having cravings 24/7 is nearly impossible. so either i go on this MMT for a bit or i will have to go hiking in the mountains of Tibet looking for a revelation or something :p

Just for anyone struggling

I switched from 80mg methadone after 6 months straight every day use to buprenorphine, started at about 12mg and easily got down to 1mg over a month.

Now I am at 1mg and trying to go below but kinda got the cravings etc..

My point is, methadone made me tired, tired of going there every fucking day, piss tests, takehome bull shit, phsyically tired, etc..

The switch to bupe was EASY...the 30mg shit is bull.

I waited 3-4 days then took my bupe and was fine. My bupe doc said he switched someone from as high as 160mg before.

All I know is it was a walk in the park compared to what my meth "counselor" (uncertified in anything jus total BS) said it'd be

yeh it seems most doctors, therapists etc. involved in drug treatment spread total bullshit and know next to nothing. i guess the "system" saves the dross of the medical community for addictions and mental health... the few competent doctors there are are working plastic surgery or tumor removal in california or something lol. or working for the militaries and pharm co.s of the world.
ok this is brutally cynical. but seriously. my therapists/doctor in this area have been very VERY kind to me, but they are very unknowledgeable and sometime dangerously incompetent. this is eastern canada after all though...one of the poorest regions of the continent...

here is vancouver everything has gone well for me.....

everyone is properly trained, and everybody is competent.....

only 2 months actually maybe 4....not very long I don't want to switch to any bupe bs so what should I do?

i retract what i said but ill leave it thereanyway. i just mean that in the maritimes, i have encountered incompetence in the medical field often. doesnt mean it is all to be condemned.
BC has more money and that province and ontario are known to be more advanced than the rest of canada. thats why most tourists go there first.

thats true..... BC and ON are ahead of Canada...

thats for sure...............

Just drop as much as you can (comfortably), as regularly as you can, until you're to a dose that you can either taper off of, or switch to another drug to get off of methadone. Before you do either of those though, you need to get your dose down. Based on what you wrote above, I would try to drop 4mg once a week. If that is a tolerable drop, then good, you found how much to drop at a time. Then, try to do that once a week. If you can, great; that's your rate (4mg once a week). If that week is unbearable, then next time wait maybe 8-9 days and drop 4mg. As a basic rule to go by, don't drop to a lower dose if you feel that you're not yet comfortable at your new dose. It is okay to take a little longer than a week in between doses if you need to... you just need to find what your body can handle to drop and then set a plan to drop that dose over the next months.

Good luck.

no, i mean actually the very eastern side of canada, the atlantic provinces. why? where do you live?

properly tapering off of methadone is very important, as well as being prepared to be off it....

why is bupe bs?

Methadone

Has anyone had any experience with Methadone?
So far I taken Oxycontin, Fentanyl, Hydromorphone (Dilaudid) and morphine for pain.
The best experience I had was with Dilaudid (IV), the pain went away and I felt like a million bucks.
I have chronic pain and end stage renal failure. (lol no not cause of drugs.)
Methadone is the next thing my insurance will cover and nothings been working because of my high tolerance. So I'm willing to give Methadone a shot.

Yes, people here have experience with methadone.

I'm going to merge this into the Methadone Mega Thread so you can read other people's responses about methadone.
