ok well heres the story on boxing day last year i had a home invasion where 5 bloke 1 with a hammer 1 with a crowbar n 2 really good mates of mine (well ithought they were my mates)yea well they decided to kick my door in and punch my dad out then go to town on me with a hammer and smash my dads car up ding more than 5k in damage to it this caused me to get sever social anxity deprison and insomnia.
so long story short itslike 10 months later and im over my deprison and have learnt to live with my anxity but i still have insomnia.
over this 10 months i was put on a bunch of dif SSRI's endep zolof lexapro and a few more that i cant rember but none of them helped at all i was then put on clozapam (spelling?) for sleep/anxity the was put on mogadon for sleep and was then put on valium wich helped out alot i was able to go out n talk to people and socialize and had a pritty good sleep pattern.so i go into the doctors today and he decided to take me off valium all together and make me do fucking hypno-theripy.
it has about 2 weeks seince ive had any valium and my anxity is fine but it seem the insomnia has got much much worse im lucky if i fall asleep at all i can only seem to sleep once the sun has come up and when i do sleep i sweat soooooooo much.
so is there any OTC sleepers i can get that arent super addictive or make you feel grogy the next day.ive tryed all thos herbal shit and they dont work at all.
also have any of you tryed hypno if so does it work?i really have my doubts about this.
i tried to make it very clear to my doc that i wantedd some more valium but he wouldent have it so now im stuck in a rutt cant work cos i dont fall asleep til about 6 in the morning so i quit my job and have just been siting around all day tired as fuck but unable to sleep i feel like my deprison is coming back dew to my insomnia its suckssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss so bad.
sorry to rambel on guys i think im just venting if mods want to removes thats fine i just need to vent..

damn. who the hell does that. i had someone beat my door down but it was to steal some meds. i currently have two LEGAL firearms for this situation ever occurs again. i love my beretta 9mm and castle laws.

for sleep, im in the same boat except im on ambien, halcion and xanex. OTC?... damn try alteril , or unisom . pretty much anything otc isn't addictive physically, mentally yes.

@swerlz nah i havent tryed melatonin is it availabe in australia we have pritty tight drug laws.

@dpiateph33n crackheads do that :S
and OTC means over the counter
and i would buy a gun if they were easyer to get.but ive got pepper spray next to the front door and i never go anywhere without my big fuck off knife lol
and i tryed to get the doc to give me some xanax but he wont have it hes turned into a asshole he started out fine but it got harder n harder to get my valium off him i think he thinks im abusing them (i do but only 1 sheet per packet)

Have you ever thought about getting a new doctor, like a psychiatrist to be specific? Tell them your history, problems and your current situation (having to quit your job because you can't sleep). Let them know all the different medications you have been and which one worked, like the Valium. You've basically become disabled without the current medications if your not able to work due to your insomnia. Let him know.

Unisom is really the only OTC sleep aid available. The same active ingredient is found in the majority of all other sleep medicines just under different names. There are some others.

i just want somthing to put me to sleep once ive fallen asleep i fall back to sleep really easy i just want somthing that WILL make me tired but wil wear off pritty fast...
how long does melatonin last?is it herbal?

yea ive put my name down to the psychiatrist in perth about 200kms away from where i live but waiting list to the psychiatrist is fucking rediculisley long like im talking a year minium
it has just gone 4am and i am still wide awake :(

The wait to see a psychiatrist can't take up to a year! I've had plenty of psychiatrists and none of them has taken over a few days to get in. There are plenty that work in the same buildings. If it is effecting you so much you should be seeking every day. If you can't get a psychiatrist, at the least just get another doctor for the time being. Tell him that you are looking for a psychiatrist for the time being but you need help. Tell him your problems

Yes what K'd said, go to the hospital they will hook you up with a shrink ussualy within an hour or so.
Also this may sound stupid but most people ferget that plain old gravol works quite well for many people to sleep.....
Going to the hospital was the only way for me to get help the waiting list in winnipeg at the time was like a year but went to the emerg, and got set up that day and started seein him every week then 2 then a month etc ...

i would try to go to a new doctor and get valium back if thats what worked, or maybe xanax or clonezepam or watever. also ambiens good for sleep if u dont wanna get tha others

It can easily take 6 months to a year to get an appointment with a psychiatrist within the public health system here unless you're frankly psychotic or having command hallucinations. Even getting an initial appointment with a private psychiatrist can take a couple of months and they're expensive with not all of the cost refunded by Medicare (I get back about 2/3 of what I pay my psychiatrist per visit).

What you can get is up to twelve sessions per year with a clinical psychologist if your GP provides a referral and a mental health plan. While not all psychologists in private practice bulk bill, quite a few do - and unless you get one of the few psychiatrists who still do therapy (mine does), that's who would be teaching you strategies for managing your anxiety, your insomnia, etc anyway.

Do hypnosis, meditation, guided relaxation etc work? I've found them all extremely useful for managing anxiety and stress in general but they can take some time to master. And learning to still your thoughts and manage anxiety has an impact on insomnia, but it's a process and a much slower one than medication.

You can certainly get a new GP who may be more willing to keep you on medication for longer but I realise that if you're 200km out of Perth you've probably got a limited choice of healthcare providers. And the issue of managing your anxiety and insomnia without medication will eventually come up again with a new practitioner too. PBS is set up in a way which discourages doctors from keeping people on benzos longterm.

You don't mention whether you're currently on income support from Centrelink. If you are then you may be able to access one of their allied health specialists through the Commonwealth Rehabilitation Service.

yea my doctor has givin me a referral but i dont wanna wait a whole fucking year to speak to the psychologist...
and yer im on youth allounce from centerlink they have provided me with councling but i think its a waste of my time all she does is sit there for a hour telling how good i am its stupid it dosent help at all...

yea dont think i want to take antipsychotic they fuck with your head too much they change the chemistry of your brain.
i was kinda put off all antideprisonts/psychotics when zolof gave mee sezures and bipolaer 1 min i would want to kill myself then next min i would be laughing uncontroabley

seems kind of irresponsible for a dr to just cold turkey you on the benzo script without explaining
and/or allowing for a taper. from what i understand you could have had a seizure in doing that.

yea just out of the blue he decided to take me off them.the time before i went in there he said he will give me some more 5mgs then when that script runs out he said he was gonna put me on some 2mg and slowley taper off them but when i went in there he decided hypnotherpiy would be better for me :( WRONG!!!
