I have taken amphetemines to lose weight, which I did but developed compulsive/binge eating disorder and gained the weight back and more. I've turned a complete 180 from being a socialite to isoltion mode. I've tried adderall to help take away my appitite but didnt work so Ive been searching for antidepressants that wont cause me to gain weight, I found out about buproprion the generic brand of wellbrutin and my doctor prescribed me 100mgx2. first week was awesome I was in a better mood and was able to stick with my diet and exercise, until I started returning to my old self again. I did more research and found out that wellbrutin is different from the generic brand and most people wrote reviews on how much weight they lost, so my doctor prescribed me wellbrutin sr 150mgx2, im on my second day and my appitite is still the same and im still depressed. Should I be patient? Im concerned because a lot of people said they started feeling it within the first day, has anyone ever taken wellbrutin for weight loss as well as depression and had ne luck? Thanks..

antidepressants effects don't become apparent and take effect until, usually, between 2-4weeks. what you were feeling was likely placebo effect.

FAQ: Antidepressants and Recreational Drugs (long!)

above is a well put together piece. don't let the long part put you off, it's got the information you want about mixing the amphetamine and wellbutrin in it (i think).

here's the suitable place to ask.

Wellbutrin and Buproproin are the same exact thing. Wellbutrin is just a brand name for buproprion. The only difference is that you got the extended-release version.

Actually you're kind of half right half wrong.

The generic version of Wellbutrin is not up to par from what I understand, personally I'm on Wellbutrin XL 450mg/day and choose not to get the generic just on the basis of wanting the good stuff. Certainly not the first time there's been a notable difference between generic and standard, the Adderal guys can tell the difference between different types of generics!

And that wasn't placebo, you were feeling something. Buproprion is a NDRI, acting on the same receptors as basically any "upper" type drug. As a result of this it DOES have a small stimulating effect. It takes about a week to acclimate to this, and during that week you may have problems with nausea, insomnia, high heart rate and/or mild euphoria. It sounds like you were getting a bit of the latter and now you're body is used to it so you don't feel that part of it anymore. It happens to everyone, when I first went on my doctor bumped me from 150-300 after the first week so I got to have that twice =D. But it's perfectly normal to feel shitty again, just be aware that it will continue until probably week 4 at the earliest, at least to have noticeable antidepressant effects. Realistically you won't notice any effects, it's very subtle but you do get the low grade stimulant and antidepressant properties, nowhere near intense enough to be in your face but it's there.
