Hey

I have an intake appt with the university psychiatrist in a few hours. I currently take paxil 40 mg, adderall 20 mg, and klonopin 1 mg (daily), prescribed by my family doctor.

I asked family doctor to up my paxil and he said that would just increase side effects. Do you think that telling this to the psych dr. would help my adderall increase?

Should I simply say: I think the adderall isn't as effective as it was when I started; I've fallen behind severely in my courses and I'm at risk of failing. I think that going up on the adderall would help.

What PHYSICAL symptoms should I report?

What facts tell a doctor that you need more adderall. I've only been on for 6 months. TIA

^^^^ yup always tell the truthe to yer shrink.
Anytime i asked for an increase in something i never got it but when i told her how i was feeling and how things were going i got an increase...
Didnt even know it till i filled my script...

Like everyone has already said tell the truth. He's a doctor and if you give him truthful description of how your medications of working he will then be able to adjust ur prescriptions accordingly. Oh and don't forget to tell the truth.

OP: Honesty is the best policy. It's no secret that you can pull a fast one on a lot of the docs out there, but this isn't a good idea. For one, it's immoral and you are essentially mocking the hardships of those who actually require medication to get on, and two, it could backfire in your face HARD.

My advice. Be honest with your doctor, describe your symptoms without adding or holding anything back. From there just hope the doc treats you right. Who knows he might have a Shire pharmaceuticals clock, pen, and mouse-pad set. lol ;)

when people overthink shit like this, that is when they start to sound like someone who is just fiending for more drugs

if you really feel that you need a higher dose, just say so, and explain why. that's the way you'll get it

NO!!!!! Lol.

Is the adderal instant release or extended release? What condition are you treating?

I shouldn't teach you this but I do it in case your medicine is not enough, not in case you want more for recreating...>.<

Play on each medicines weak point. Instant release medicine has 2 weak points:

- Gives you a huge bump at first
- The effects last short

For extended release medicine:

- The second pulse is too strong and I can't sleep at night.
- First pulse is too weak, doesn't wake me up.

If you got IR, switch to ER, if you got ER, switch to IR this way:

20mg IR. Depends how much your pills are. If it's 2 pills of 10mg each you can say that the effect runs out at 3pm after taking them in the morning so you need to re-dose half a pill at 2:30 pm. Ask for 25mg EXTENDED RELEASE pill to be taken in the morning.

etc.

As someone said, don't over think it and don't practice what your going to say everyday in your head. Just tell the truth and he will help you out, that is his job. Tell him what symptoms you are experiencing, how you are feeling and whats going on. Don't specifically ask about the Adderall, that makes it look like you are fiending.

I used to think I would go to a psychiatrist and make up some story and get an adderall script. Well, life circumstances led me to a psychiatrist due to depression, anxiety and a chemical dependency issue.

I was completely honest, wasn't looking for anything, just wanted to feel better. I ended up being put on Ritalin, which actually does exactly what I need it to do, but I wasn't looking for a Ritalin script although there was a time when I envied anyone with a Ritalin or Adderall script.

Don't lie to your psych, alot of them are smarter than you think, they see people all day every day and if you go in there with the intention of just getting drugs for recreational use they will most likely catch on. The more people do this the harder it is for people to get the drugs they really need.

what i do

I know its an old post...damned if I post on this damned if I make a new one cuz "its already got posts" even though they're years old...anyways...

My buddy basically goes over the symptoms with his doc that make him feel like its time for an increase, then asks the doc what he thinks should be done and asks the doc about a few options or just asks the doc what they think...my buddys doc almost always goes along with what my buddy says to him cuz the only one that knows whats goin on...really knows, is him...he basically seems like he just wants him to run stuff by him to make sure its safe and wont possibly make things worse...plus to adjust the dosages so you have enough of course...just be cool...they're there to make it better...how can they do that if they don't know really whats goin on

oh, my buddy has shown to his doctor, many times over a couple years, he does his homework and knows a lot more than even a pretty well educated (in the drug area) consumer...so that could play in
