So this is illegal to import, possess and grow.
But only because of cathinone right?

When it is dried the cathinone degrades into cathine and is unscheduled?
Its still available at that well known illegal herbal high chain shop to buy dried for making tea.

In large doses Cathine feels like something like a clear-headed light coffee and gives you sharper amphetamine-like vision but doesn't have very good stimulant effects.

Funny thing is, Customs and Quarantine doesn't even know what Khat is. I've seen so many attempted imports of it on that tv show border security where they destroy it or issue a $220 QIN infringement fine because they cannot ID the khat bundles, I laugh every time.

Who has chewed on the fresh material and did you get much effects from it?
Is it true it can rot your teeth?

i've had fresh khat. kinda like a strong coffee minus the jitter, or the drive of amphetamine without the manic need to be doing something. but i did need quite a few leaves, usually chewing for an hour for about 2ish hours of effects... but i do get the house clean ;)

it was available from various shops in australia for a while, there's heaps of people in the ethnobotany scene that had some...

I was staying at a place that had the most common khat tree growing in the front yard. dark green leaves with freshly sprouting red, red/green glossy leaves.

Anyway you're supposed to pick the fresh glossy leaves before the sun comes up and chew them. absorbtion through the blood vessels in your mouth. It was like a few strong coffees for me in effect, complete with jittery type agitation. The taste and texture of hte leaves is horrible.

Anyway even though the leaves were there and free for the picking I only ever tried it once. Didn't see anything enjoyable about it. There is a rarer narrow leaf'd variety which probably gives the effects that you would imagine a khat should give. More like amphetamine & less like coffee. But i've never seen or tried it.

^good informative post. Khat is definitely an acquired taste.

How did you form the opinion of the different range of effects of the NL?

There is still methcathinone that comes and goes and seems to be very seasonal. Im assuming this is being made from Khat's cathinone ? im not talking about 4-mmc, just straight methcathinone. Its usually yellow where Ive found it and IVing it requires a lot more than average base and the effects are much less intense

We don't allow synthesis discussion, but I can assure you that methcathinone is made synthetically and not from khat derived cathinone. It can be made from ephidrine/pseudoephidrine.

Just various google results. I"ll post 2 comments. The 2nd I know the person & know he's used the narrow leaf & very dependable with his info.

(1)
"I have chewed the foliage and young stems of the narrow leaf variety which, after a very short time (~5-10 minutes), affected me like GOOD coke or short duration amphetamine, I noticed that if ya' keep chewing more the affect is prolonged."

(2)
"Narrow leaf - this is the one grown in south africa. Strong stimulant and inebriant. Sweet taste. Does not propagate well from cuttings. More tolerant of crappy clay soils. My preference is for the narrow leaf because I like the mild inebriation with the stimulant. It's like having a glass of beer with your khat. The taste is also more pleasant in my opinion."

Small world, I know the same guy :)

Not sure if this is allowed... but since it's legal i'll chance it and ask...

Would this be available at nurserys or available to the public within Aus?

narrow leaf can be propagated by suckers ( getting a stem and burying the middle of it , roots then grow, then you cut the stem and plant the sucker as a normal cutting. ) and it is indeed sweeter and not so leathery, i much prefer it, so much so that when it was legal i got rid of my large leafs and replaced them with narrows.

howdy all,
Recently I was getting a taxi home from a heavy drinking session when I noticed our taxi driver had a mouth full of green. I was aware of khat and asked him if I could try. I stuck a bunch of dried leaves in my mouth and preceded to chew. We got to talking and it turns out its used quite often used among the somalian community. The effects were similar to a high dose of caffeine without the jitters although nothing startling however he did mention that the fresh leaves are much more effective.

Let me guess, Melbourne?

The taxi drivers down there have always tried to sell me Khat. Ten years ago I was ignorant and thought the guy was chewing Cannabis leaf, called him out over it and he explained to me what Khat was. That was when I started to become enlightened.

Offtopic, re: surce discussion, but just say I said I could get high off corn, can someone then ask what supermarket where you bought that corn
