I just started on suboxone (16mgs) and want to know if this will have any effect if i take benzos, will i still get the same effect? Will it have no effect at all. I am pretty sure that it will have no effect other than possible increasing the benzos effects marginally??

apparently this is a large synergy with alprazolam and bupe......

i think all other benzos just work normally, or may even potentiate the bupe.......

It would be wise to include all the drugs you're taking in the one thread so that people don't give you advice about one without realising that you're also taking others.

Some benzos will potentiate the CNS effects of the bupe. If you have the one prescriber for both then they should take that into account when setting dosages for each. Heroin and benzos have their own synergy which also needs to be taken into account.

Pretty much any time you combine benzos with another CNS depressant there's the potential for adverse interactions.

My sub doc actually prescribed benzos to me...I did not notice any type of difference in taking benzos while on subs vs when I wasn't. Only thing you'd want to be careful with is possible more severe CNS depression. Just a recommendation, but would start off small dosage and build up from there gradually.

I was prescribed Clonazepam and Suboxone and to tell you the truth I noticed no difference in the combo, although I had a tolerance to benzodiazepines already when I first started the buprenorphine. Not much of a synergy. Suboxone doesn't cause much CNS depression at all, especially compared to other opioids so you don't have much of a danger when combining the two.

^ this is true.....and im glad you have experience to inform us.....

i have heard there is a synergy with bupe and xanax tho.....?

Thx guys, very informative. At times i have had very high tolerances to benzos tho, for instance when i use for a couple of weeks i can take 25 30mg tablets of serapax oxmazepam, and only just feel it.

I was prescribed 3mgs of xanax for over 2 years before gettting prescribed 16mgs of bupe. I would take 1mg xanax and 8mg bupe in the morning, and would always have to pass out for an hour or so. I just couldn't keep my eyes open, I guess I was nodding but I was in class so it didn't work out too well.

Also, you should probably lower your bupe dose... Check out the suboxone megathreads for tons of info about that.

^.... i can sort of relate......

after i take my dose of bupe at noon, i go back to sleep.....

not because i cant keep my eyes open tho.....

^ it would probably do that for me as well to be honest....lol

i just always go back to bed, because i tend to be a night owl.....

wakes you up, cause your getting your drugs, and you are going to feel great.....

and stimulates your mood, for many reasons.... i am on 1mg now, tapered down to this over two months, so i am getting many benefits from bupe now....

I've been on Subs (16mg) for about 5 months now and take 3mgs of xanax daily. I used to love taking benzos, as they made me feel great. Now with the subs it seems like the benzos make me go right to sleep. They never had that effect on me until I was prescribed the suboxone.

you should look into taking a lower sub dose, there's probably no need for you to be taking 16 mg
