My fave album by the Clash is 'Sandinista'. They really show their versatility on that album as they experiment with different genres and sounds, and yet they retain their signature catchiness and meaningful lyrics.

My fave song by the Clash is either 'Call Up' or 'Bankrobber'. I think 'Call Up' is the best anti-war song I've heard. And 'Bankrobber' is so catchy and amusing and thought provoking.

What are your faves?

I like their 80s dancey jams like "spanish bombs" and "this is radio clash" and "magnificent seven (tight bass line!)" and "police on my back" and "train in vain"

but growing up I was more into their punk rock stuff on The Clash (77). songs like "white riot" and "london burning" really spoke to me as a youth ingrained in the punk culture

all in all, one of my favorite bands of all time. they started off more punk rock, but then embraced more of a reggae feel. one has to commend how politically active they were. the Clash have to be one of the first more mainstream bands that popularized political awareness

Yes, it is really cool to listen to all their albums and see how they evolved. I also love the lyrics dealing with political and social issues. They are my favorite band, all genres. I even have a clash tattoo.

'Spanish Bombs' is another of my favorites too :)

Both from London Calling (1979) ;)

I'd take London Calling as my favourite album: don't know if I can define why, just the quality of the songs I guess. Sandanista is too sprawling, The Clash is close to London Calling but not quite there. The other albums have some great tracks but some duff ones as well.

Tracks: London Calling, Rudie Can't Fail, Stay Free, The Guns of Brixton (I live in Brixton, so it makes me feel tough and street ;)), Safe European Home, This is England, London's Burning....etc. Ask me again tomorrow and I'll give you a different list.

i would say that london calling and their cover of Police & Thieves are my favorite songs
and i would go with london calling for the album
i dont go back to them much but its good stuff

I love their more traditionally punk albums from earlier in their career, but I really love Sandanista! too. Damn. People were hating on that album for years and years (at least in the states) until the 00s. I think people finally started feeling the reggae, dub, roots and funk influences. Punk was pretty white and genres were very distinct (discreet?) until the 90s. With a few notable exceptions.

I have so many favorite Clash songs I can't really pick a single one, but Washington Bullets, Something About England, Charlie Don't Surf, Magnificent Seven (funky and tight as hell) and the Leader were some of my favorites off Sandinista!. But I find myself singing Police On My Back and the Call-Up all the time as I'm walking down the street.
