So i just got prescribed 10 mg Lexapro a day and 0.5 mg Klon everyday for debilitating anxiety. Just wondering if anybody had experiences with these drugs )positive and neg) .

I kno the anti-depressant will kick in later but the clonazepam has been helping bunch.

Still curious what other people thought about their experience with Lexapro.

Thanks in advance@

Lexapro has helped alot of people with anxiety disorders, I tried it for a while, didn't help me though. But no SSRI ever has, infact they've given me worsened symptoms. I'm 'serotonin-sensitive' as my psych put it. That's just my experience with Lexapro, it may very well be a great medication to help you with your anxiety.

As for clonazepam, I take 4mg/daily, sometimes more. Benzos help greatly with anxiety, but for only so long if you use them daily. Tolerance to benzos builds quickly and you'll have to keep upping your dose to maintain the anxiolytic effects and keep the w/ds at bay. If you end up physically dependant, it can be a hard road to get off them, the w/ds are hell. But a good doctor should be able to taper you off as 'comfortably' as possible when you want to stop using them if it reached that point in which a physical dependance had developed.

I should add that SSRIs have w/ds too, even though you can't abuse them.

Make sure that you report any worsening of symptoms to your doctor immediately - it can be a side effect of SSRIs.

Try to learn anxiety reduction and management techniques while you're on the benzos. The aim of treatment shouldn't be that you never experience anxiety again but that you eventually only experience it at "normal", manageable levels.

lexapro works great for me.

I take 20mg a day for over 5 months and its helped me a ton.

Took about a month to take action and notice effects.

Honestly not very many side effects from lexapro...only thing I can think of is weight gain and decrease in sex drive for me

I was given the option to go on benzos but for my own sake said no because it can be hell getting off.....if I were you I would do some research on coming off of benzos....my friend said it was harder to come off of than heroin no joke...

Benzos help alot in giving anti anxiety but for me its just not worth it.

Not saying anti depressents arient tough to get off, but benzos are supposed to be hell.

Good luck, man.

So i guess not many people tried lexapro on this forum given its a pretty new formulation.

Just wanted the know if it was positive for you guys that tried it.

But ohh well time will tell once i try it myself for a couple weeks.

Usually when starting an antidepressant for anxiety a doctor will also prescribe a benzodiazepine for the first month because the effects of the AD take that long to kick in. Usually you are taken off after that but some doctors will keep you on it for an as-needed basis.

This. Everyone who is not recognized as a drug seeker will get a benzo with your anti-depressant.

It is common practice, and you can sue if they don't.

i was on endep then changed to zolof that gave me fits and bipoler (spelling 1 min i was happy and giggly the next miniut i wanted to kill mysefl) then i was put back on endep then changed to lexapro and valium but i decided to just take the valium and kee the lexapro in my medi cabnet.to me benzos arent that addictive i have big bings on iti get my script of 50 5mg drop 10-15mg about 2 -3 times a day til the packet runs out and have never expirnced WDs off them touch wood i never do

i tried lexapro for a few days but i was coming down off coke. and stopped. so my opinion is void but apparently it's the best ssri but like another poster said i'm also 'serotonin sensitive'. i always have unheard side effects from them (and no i'm not on other drugs at the time)

i started at .5 a week ago and now i'm taking 1.5 of klonopin :/ idk about this drug just yet it works GREAT but ahhh. my dr prescribes me 2mg a day but i try to just take half that if i can. like right now i've been up since 10 am and it's 4 am now and i've only taken 1.5 so i guess that's a good dose to last that long imo. gives me insane insomnia

Lexapro. Not the generic. My doctor says the generic does not equally effect both sides of the brain so I have to pay for the name brand, which is very expensive but does a much better job than the other antidepressants I have been on over the last 10 years.

Your doctor is full of shit. Legit pharmacuitical companies/factories must abide by strict guidelines that the product they are selling is 99.9% what it says it is... 500mg APAP for example, brand names contain 500mg APAP and the generic brands contain 500mg APAP.

The doc probably gets bonuses ($$$) for scripting certain brands specifically, which he won't get if you buy the generic brand (ever notice those 'Invega' pens, 'Seroquel' fucking bath-mats, 'Zyprexa' tissue boxes etc. This kind of shit really pisses me off regarding psychiatrists, the mental health system etc. I'm sorry for the angry tone of this post, but when a doctor is essentially 'seeing dollar signs' in their eyes, and making that more important than the damn human being they're treating in front of them... well it just really rubs me the wrong way.

^^indeed... don't believe that the docs are filthy rich just from "healing" people.... theyre on the pharmaceutical payrols too... not all of them, but some

Generics are cheaper, and an example that comes to my mind where generics are again advantaageous is with subutex (buprenorphine) the generics (Mylan, Arrow) are way smaller, making it easier and faster to sublingual, or/and easy to crush and way less powder to snort ;)

I was just prescribed escitalopram today, 10mg (Seroplex here). The doc gave me some lormetazepam too, 'cause I have debilitating insomnia.

I hope the escitalopram will work.

Lexepro helps alot of people. I personally don't take anti depressants. The combination should help you a great deal.

I am rxed celexa which is first generation Lexepro.

Klonopin I took at bedtime at first, now I can take it whenever. It's long acting to fight anxiety. You're doc seems to be a good one. My Valium Klonopin combo is amazing to fight my anxiety.

Thanks Violenza666.

I had a shitty night even with the lormetazepam, but I have a benzo tolerance, not huge but still. I'll take two tabs tonight instead of one. The zopiclone has become useless to me.

I'll ask for some loprazolam or some nitrazepam next time i see the doc.

Otherwise I just took my first tab of Lexapro this morning, and I don't have the adverse effects described here and there (nausea, diarrhea, etc.). So far so good! Crossing fingers for the libido thing...

I didn't have a libido problem when I took lexepro. I am oversexed kind of like a male. Lexepro is one of the few that won't destroy your desire to have sex, also it won't make it impossible to get it up like paxil and some others. I also have a friend I work with who is on lexepro and he has no issues with his libido on lexepro. So I highly doubt you will have this problem. If you do you can do the medication vacation thing where you don't take the lexepro for 2 days a week. It is common practice for those who are having libido problems. I don't know your relationship status if you're married, single, have a fuck buddy ect. But if you're partner is cool I am sure they will understand... but I still highly doubt this will happen to you. If you have any issues feel free to message me and good luck!

To tell you guys da truth I ve been on it for two weeks and for the second time in my life I was scared that I won't be able to get it up. Guess what last night I met a beautiful chick which obviously proved to me that Lexapro and Klonopin work for my Anxiety. And it took me slightler longer to get aroused...so far i like the drug and I knew my phych is a drug pusher and thats why I went to him.

Because here in my area no regular doctor will prescribe you normal doses of benzo's which is exactly what I needed ( or at least needed to try). Many people who went to this doctor post bad reviews because he doesn't do therapy, just drugs...and his assistants tell you that over the phone before your appointment. I was happy with my first evaluation with Nurse Practicioner and Doctor. SO far so good

I've been on Paxil for the last 8 months or so and felt it was no longer helping me so my doctor prescribed me Lexapro....when the insurance finally approved it I was told it would be around $50/month which I could not afford! So I didn't switch to Lexapro but also decided to stop Paxil. Bad idea! It ended up being a valuable lesson though, once the Paxil was out of my system I realized how much it really was helping me.
I know it's a little off topic but I had high hopes for Lexapro and ended up finding that Paxil was pretty amazing for my anxiety and depression. It took withdrawing from it to realize how much it helps...now I'm back on and it's only $4/month with or without insurance. I'm on a very low dose (20mg) of Paxil and it helps a bunch.
