Tripping in total darkness

Have any of you done this before?
Just the other day my friend and I got some acid and tripped at my house, and at the peak of our trip turned off all the lights in my room and turned on some ambient music.
I literally started seeing sounds man, it was intense.
We did this again after smoking some weed about 6 hours or so after dosing, and I was tripping so hard I became the music.

^ definitely. tripping in the dark, with your eyes closed, in my opinion, is the only way to trip.

yeah it's a lot of fun. get some really good visuals. its almost like your mind is making stuff happen to compensate for the lack of light? that's what it feels like anyway.

It is like it has an open canvas and a pile of paint, so it just goes to town painting.

Yeah it's great but other techniques can be too - experiment! :)

Going on adventures (esp. in nature), having spiritual/philosophical conversations, watching light shows, lying on the grass on a bright summer day, stargazing, attempting to go about usual activities (on a lower dose), drawing/painting, writing, meditating, etc... I find psychedelics far too versatile to limit to one :D

I agree with melange, dissociatives really seem to have a unique character that only total darkness seem to bring out. When I dose DXM or ketamine at night (which is when I do it 80% of the time, usually) I spend a specific amount of time in complete darkness, ranging from ten to fifteen minutes to almost an hour, if not more. Unlike LSD, mushrooms, 2C-B, and some of the other 'generic' psychedelics, I can actually relax and get 'in tune' to certain thought patterns and even seem to meld with my surroundings. With the 'generics', I may turn all the lights off just to turn them back on less than five minutes later because of too much going on in my mind. The visuals increase ten-fold but I usually can't manage to focus on anything else BUT visuals, and that gets kinda old quick, so the lights come right back on. I think in that aspect most psychedelics can cause some "wow CRAAAAAZY" visual phenomena if you're in total darkness, but that can be pretty boring unless all you're dosing for is to see nice imagery.

i agree with everyone else.... total darkness is the way to go.total darkness and DMT were made for each other ;-).

On a hard mushroom peak me and three friends all blindfolded ourselves, then walked around the apartment by memory/feeling/sight(of energy or something?). It was one of the coolest experiences I have ever had. I felt when a cat entered the room, and saw it move vividly. I suggest everyone try this, just be real careful.

Shit got crazy when all four of us somehow ended up in a corner together standing, didn't know what was happening. In my head it looked like we were all tangled and trying to get undone and then BAM! I hit my arm on a closet door and knock us all down. 8o

Anyway, do it if you want to dive DEEP.

Tripping with music in the total darkness seems to really trigger alot of psychedelic effects that doing it with even just low lights seems to block. Best way to go!

I don't start having bouts of seemingly leaving what's going on for a bit on DXM with the lights on. High dose gets nuts in the pitch black with a nice ass pair of headphones cranked.

I disagree about DMT...

For me, I find it much more interesting If there is a indirect light that is soft enough to where I can just barely notice it when I move my head to the position where my eyes are facing the light (with them closed)

In total darkness I dont seem to get as much beautiful geometry as I do in very faint light....

I love the the dark on other psyches though. Specifically mushrooms. There is something about mushrooms and emptiness that go together well. They are the perfect counterpoint for eachother.

Yeah, turn off the light and cut the music too!

I like this practice very much.

When the come up is drawing to a close, the anxiety and discomfort dissipates and you're fully turned into your psychedelic self, it's time to dive deep.

Start out with darkness, wait a little to see if you can handle the intensity, and proceed with turning off the music too for a while.

Absolute Silence goes together well with complete darkness.

I disagree about DMT...

Yeah. DMT is actually great in the sunlight. Trust me, brethren -- you trip just as hard. :D

Serotonergic psychedelics seem to benefit from sunlight. But, actually, chilling in pitch black darkness definitely intensifies my cannabis highs.

I find it a bit difficult sometimes to trip in darkness. I dont wanna sound like a big baby, but because I'm getting no external stimuli, my brain goes go to work on making its own fun, and because I'm such a drama queen/pessimist I always seem conjurer up frightening or overwhelming thoughts that sometimes shoot me into 'the fear' zone.

Just sayin...

I can understand this perspective if the darkness is created through closed eyes, without external stimulation to distract focus, the intensity is boundless and on DMT it's just remarkable.. although, opening your eyes to sunlight, tree's and the earth is an almighty sight.
