Opioids Side Effects of new OxyContin OP's

Other than the new OP's not being as strong as the old OC's, is anyone else having side effects from these that they didn't have, or had to a much lesser degree, with the old ones (Oc's)?

Occasionally I would get a headache from the OC's but these OP things are giving me a constant low grade headache and sometimes it can get severe.

I've also felt dizzy a few times which I never had before-it's kind of a disorienting feeling, not so much like a spinning feeling but more of a loss of balance.

I saw my doctor today and they said that nothing should be different but I swear it is-that or I've been coming down with something for almost two weeks.

Also, I've only been on them for two weeks-if anyone else had side effects, have they become less as you took them longer?

Does anyone have any tips for dealing with the headaches? I've been trying to drink plenty fluids and take Advil when I need to but I'm not seeing much relief.

Even if you don't have the same side effects I'm having, can you list any that you are-I'm curious and I would love to have some better information to have a educated discussion with my MD and Pharmacist.

Violetiris .. I (too) am a CPP. Not much fun to live with chronic pain!! I have been prescribed Oxycontin for approximately 10 months. Upon receiving my first script, I was thanking "The Man" above for the pain relief!!

Not last month but the month before, I get my script and headed off to the pharmacy. Got it filled (40mg's) and headed home. A couple of days later I took the first one from the new bottle. It just happened to be my evening dose. I woke up the following AM and I had a headache from haydees!! I am NOT one who has headaches often. No matter how many advil I took ... the pain wouldn't go away. Alongside the headache, I hurt as if I hadn't taken anything. My stomach was hurting and I felt nauseous. This continued through the first day (as I continue to take my medication properly). On the second day, I woke up with a rash on my lower extremities. I am FREAKING by this point.

My daughter is a pharmacist and (of course) I called her questioning if anyone had came through with these "flu-like" symptoms. She told me that she hadn't been in contact with anyone complaining but she had heard some side-effects to the medication I was taking. She came over and checked out my RX. She says .. "Mom .. this is your problem!!!" She went on to tell me that out of all the oxycontin patients that had gotten this new OP formula at least half or more had called or came back by the pharmacy having the same symptoms. She advised me to contiue taking them and thought the symptoms might subside.

I had NO other choice than to take them and get MILD pain relief (I found that the pain relief was NOT anywhere near what the original formula allowed) but I also get oxycodone 30's for breakthrough pain and I more/less depended on them to get me through the month.

Upon some research, she advised me that Walgreens had the old formula but it was masked in the form of Oxycodone ER (generic) for the original Oxycontin. One of her friends that she went to school with is a pharmacist at the local Walgreens and put aside my next months supply for me.

I am about three weeks into this months script (old formula) and still having the stomach cramps but the headache and rash has subsided. I pray that this crap hasn't done irreversable damage to my digestive tract!!

I DID report the side effects to Purdue as well as to the FDA as I was advised.

Just a note as to what she has heard .. She hasn't heard anything of the new formula being removed from the market and going back to the old formulation. Now that is not to say that this want happen. I PRAY that it does. As for now, I will contiue to go to Walgreens and fill my scripts with the Oxycodone ER.

I hope EVERY CPP has a pain free day and those who take care of us CPP's don't have to listen to us being ill about this new formulation!!

Thanks for letting me know-now I feel less crazy. My doctor said that they should be the same but I swear they aren't. Also-your lucky-my doctor won't write for anything that is instant release-in fact, they put me on Oxy Q8H rather than give me a breakthrough med. So I have nothing BUT these and my trusty bottle of Advil to cope with.

Also, while I am not getting the same pain relief, I am also not getting any symptoms of withdrawal. I have gone through that before and this is NOT by any means withdrawal-not even a mild one.

Weird though isn't it? I'm thinking of doing a monthly colon cleanse if I have to keep taking these just to try to get the plastic out of my intestines.

I wish I had a pharmacy hook-up like you do! I plan on doing some research and calling around before I have to get my next RX filled.

Eventually I coughed it up enough to reach it-went to pull it out of my mouth so I could get some drink to swallow it down again and low and behold-I had a 18 inch stream of gooey plastic coming out of my mouth to the small plate I sat it on-disgusting! That's in my gut? Yuck.

The headache thing is perplexing though. Why would it be causing headaches? I've tried to research the new materials in it but I can't find anything that would point to headaches. It's disturbing. Is plastic somehow getting into our central nervous system? Yikes!

You should try taking a half of 500 mg of tylenol or the whole tylenol depending how much oxy you are taking. I use to get headaches also & it seems the tylenol helps very much so.

This is insane & no one should suffer like you have. If enough people come forward & complain & they lose money because no one is buying the new formulation, they will have to do something about it. I havent done the new formulation but have heard that people like yourself are having stomach problems.

They are lying to us about the new OP being the same formulation I believe. They could put rat poisin in the pills & lie to our faces about it & we would sit here & take it. I hate that they are getting away with this crap.

Good luck with getting pain relief. Question: Do you like the 30 mg instant release roxy's just as much as the original oxy's?

They use us as guinea pigs & laugh about it. Wait until the lawsuits start to pour in with people & their stomach problems. Imo, they will change back to the old formulation or take out the plastic garbage because they have no choice.

I am a CPP and i take Opana not Oxycodone, but I can't understand why they would mess with a new formulation with plastic when the existing TIMERx system on Opana ER's is pretty much the most abuse-resistant formulation I have ever seen.

That said, they are having success in killing the market for these OP's and driving up the price of the old one's, which might be a good thing in some weird strung-out drug exec's mind.
All i can say is that it seems as though they are putting abuse resistance before their patients needs and it is resulting in GI and CNS problems. Abuse and Diversion will always happen - these are things the community needs to address rather than relying on the drug formulations to.

I noticed on another forum where someone posted about talks he had with a group of attorneys about a class action suit, and that they "concluded that a Class Action suit is still premature, but they do intend to proceed with with a Mass Tort Action suit."

yup, im not doing any opiates anymore but the op's sucked. For maybe the first 15 min my first dose would feel good, then i would just get a headache and i would NOT go away. I tried drinking water too..tylenol or a low dose asprin would help a little.

I've taking these op's for 6 months now and have developed constant constipation that won't let go..stool softeners are ineffective anybody else have similar complaints?

I have taken OC's for nearly 11 years now. These new one's-OC's give me the most horrible heartburn/indigestion and it wakes me up at night! The pain relief only lasts about 5 to 5.5 hours tops. I go to see him (PM Dr.) this coming week and we are going to have a long talk about this,as I take OP 60mg. BID.
