Hello all,

Before I ask the few questions that I wanted to, I figure I should give a little insight into my recent drug use. March of last year (2009), I had started taking tramadol habitually as a daily thing, this was not the first time I had taken tramadol, in fact I had used the drug many times before that. I was taking anywhere from 150-400mg's daily but never went over 400mg. I kept doing this until late September/early October of 2009, so about 6 months total. I got clean once in between that time period doing a taper down on my own terms and worked extremely well to my surprise, but come late September I had to come off abruptly due to unforeseen circumstances so I had a few days of withdrawal. I was clean (with regards to opiate/opioids) until December of last year. This is when I began taking tramdol again every day. Around February, oxycodone became more available to me and I started using it along with tramadol occasionally. Some days, I would go without the tramadol and simply use oxycodone. My tolerance then was around 60mg's a day (oxycodone). Around late March/early April, I began using tramdol and oxycodone together daily, and this is where I am still at today. I take 150mg tramadol right when I wake up, and anywhere between 1-3 hours after I dose tramadol, I will insufflate 80-90mg's of oxycodone. My total daily oxycodone tolerance is 120-150mg (some days I will go to 160-180, but this is not typical). I re-dose about 8 hours after my initial dose of oxycodone earlier in the day.

Now, I have taken one or two days without oxy periodically, I haven't taken a day off of the tramadol though. The tramadol really seems to help with the oxy withdrawal, although I have never been physically dependent on oxycodone without also being dependent on tramadol, so I really don't know. Tommorrow, I plan on going without oxy and am really striving to cut my addiction to the substance loose at this point in my life. I will still be using tramadol. however, I plan to taper off once I am comfortable without oxycodone. I know a good amount about the drugs which I have been abusing on their own, but am constantly learning more. As I am still attaining knowledge to help me in my particular situation, I figured I would also register here (after many years of utilizing this place), and ask a few questions. My questions to you all are:

Does anybody reading this have experience with being addicted to these two substances at the same time? If so, how did you go about getting off?

Does anybody know a thing or two about how being addicted to tramadol affects quitting oxycodone? (e.g. longer withdrawal period, different symptoms, etc.)

Lastly, I know that this is definitely not a healty lifestyle to be carrying out and mixing these two drugs at such a consistent rate is definitely not good for me, I am guilty of not knowing as much as I think I should about the adverse effects of mixing these two drugs for such a long time. Does anybody have any information to share in relation to the combination of these two drugs?

I know that I am extremely ignorant for not knowing as much as I possibly can about mixing these two drugs considering the amount of time that I have been using each together. It's time for a change, I went from being all about HR when I first began using drugs of all sorts, and used to look down upon friends of mine who were taking dangerous combination's of drugs without looking into it first. And now I am here, it's funny how that worked out. Anyway, on a brighter note, I am extremely looking forward to participating in the things I used to do, and I am happy to finally be a member here at Bluelight!

For what it's worth, I'm at the end of day 3 from abstaining from oxycodone and so far it has been a pretty successful journey, i've been taking 300mg tramadol each day. Although some withdrawal symptoms are still present (restless leg syndrom, general lack of motivation/energy, body discomfort, hot/cold flashes), I'm not sick to my stomach and actually consider myself quite lucky to be in the position I'm in. I am sleeping every night, although waking up more than a few times soaked in sweat, I can get a full nights sleep. I figured I'd just update this to let anyone who it may interest know. Once I am past this, I plan on tapering down my tramadol dosage until comfortable enough to make the jump. But I still am interested in any insight whatsoever to the questions asked above.

tramadol w/d is said to be worse than other opiates because of its antidepressant properties.. i'm on subs but i have a constant script for tramadol also but i make sure i don't get addicted to it because i went through w/d off amitriptyline a while ago and it sucked! so if it's anything like that than i'm glad im avoiding it,

If i were you, when trying to get off the trams (if you get bad w/d's) try to have clonidine, hydroxyzine and FLEXERIL (i know it sucks as a MR according to some people, but it is like an antidepressant like tramadol so it will help with those certain w/d's better than a different MR) and just taper off flexeril once off tramadol, it will be easier and less painful, hopefully.

This is all just speculation though cuz as i said i haven't gone through tramadol w/d's but have been through opiate w/d's plenty of times and through antidepressant w/d's and if both are combined when coming off it than it's gonna suck balls.

Good luck %)

Not to thread jack but how long and how much were you doing of the amitryptline? Last week I abruptly stopped from 50 mg/day for a little more than year and I didnt really feel any noticeable w/d symptops. I was also going through oxycodone withdrawals as well so it might have been masked when I went and bought the oxy to do for the w.d as well. Was just wondering since you said the w/d sucked!
