Opioids When I use...

I am on 28mg of methadone but for the last 2 weeks or so I have been using Heroin pretty much everyday. About one bundle a day (.2) . Some of these days I will get my drink still, sometimes I don't. I'm starting to get scared that I'm setting myself up for a huge crash by getting my drink on the days that I'm using. I know this isn't the most serious of problems, I'm just not so sure about how this all works. Should I avoid getting my drink if i know I am using? Thanks.

...no, its not a good idea to use your opiate maintanence drug at the same time as using other opiates tog et high. It just makes your tolerance skyrocket and when you finally stop using heroin again, that "28mg dose" won't be enough to hold you anymore. You will probably need twice that. There are also other problems with mixing those two drugs that im not gonna bother to get into, one, because they can easily be found by doing a search, and two, the first explanation I gave you should be enough to make you want to stop using heroin with your methadone.

Its best to keep you're methadone and recreational opiates separate (get high with one, and save the others for a rainy day). For one thing, methadone, in the short term, seems to diminish the euphoria of other opioids significantly for a few days afterward, unless you take monster doses. Also as jamesBrown pointed out, your tolerance will increase very rapidly when you hit your opioid receptors with two opioids with differing mu-opioid affinity.

However, if you mix it up (say one day of heroin and one day of methadone) you can actually slow the tolerance buildup to both drugs by keeping your body "confused" and thus unable to down-regulate your receptors as efficiently.
 
main thing is in canada you cant miss your dose more than a few times. thus being why I would get my methadone anyway

is this true? It sort of makes sense.

Actually, "mixing it up", by taking methadone one day, and then heroin the next, IS NOT a good idea. Theoretically you actually WILL be slowing your tolerance build up by doing it that way, but you would still be building up your tolerance much quicker than you would by just taking methadone everyday...so.....eventually, like I said, your methadone dose wouldnt be enough to keep you from withdrawing. Also, it is completely counter productive to the whole reason that you are on methadone in the first place.
Honestly, if you want to keep using dope, keep using dope, we cant stop you, but dont do it while still taking methadone at the same time. That is really fucking things up worse for you and in the long run, you will be worse off than you were before you started the methadone program
 
You know what to do then.... quit the H or you'll be in for a hellish ride down the road.

I agree, I just assumed that the OP would be taking opioids on a daily basis regardless, and if he will be taking BOTH heroin and methadone, he's (probably) better off not taking them on the same day.

But yeah, daily doses of opioids will steadily boost your tolerance no matter what tricks you play on your body.
 
I would get back on the methadone. I've been doing what your doing pretty much exactly the same, just with suboxone instead, so it's a bit more anxiety producing, but less dangerous.

I got a question though. With a tolerance of 30 mg of methadone, are your highs from heroin even that good anymore? I feel like I used to get a great high off of dope, and I've been doing it for about twelve days off suboxone now, and just don't get sattisfying highs. It makes the whole thing more pointless and shitty.
 
I know personaly that when i would take Methadone(in pill form for pain ) I could not get as high on other opiates while the Methadone was in my system and I know people that take 80-100 mg of Methadone a day for chronic pain that tried to IV some dilaudid and had to do like 30-40mg just to fell a mild buzz from the dilaudid. They would have been bteer of selling the Diluadid as being on that much methadone for over 2 -3 years it had built up in their system (methadone) and they will have to waste drugs like Dilaudid or heroin to get a high,they have to use 5 times more than they would otherwise(5X being a guess).

Isn't a bundle like 8-10 bags (i.e. 0.8-1.0)?
 
oh wow, if this was all a case of miscommunication i would feel so relieved. What I meant was I am doing like 40$ a day

it doesnt really make much of a difference how much dope you were doing. Its the fact that you were mixing heroin daily with your methadone dose. This is the most damaging and dangerous issue you are dealing with......for the same reasons that I posted in my earlier posts.
 
so I used yesterday early afternoon, I didn't get my methadone yesterday at all. By the time I went to bed I was not high and just fell asleep watching a movie. Woke up depressed and cold non stop mind racing about how fucked up and stupid I am. What seemed to be the beginning of WD. I went and got my methadone and smoked a few joints and I feel much better. Just lethargic, but in better spirit. I do not plan on using today, I can't afford it either, but we all know how this shit works. Plans are seldom followed etc. And obviously if I manage to keep from using, and start getting sick, I will most likely use to make it go away (duh).
And it seems like tons of the people at my clinic on methadone are also still using.
