Need some help.

Okay guys and gals. Hello, my name is Mr. Squiggle (pseudonym). I'm 20 years old, and I have recently been struck with the whole Nurofen/Panafen Plus/Panadeine Forte/Mersyndol Night-time Caplets in order for myself to feel good. So basically, I'm psychologically addicted to codeine and when I'm not on codeine, I feel like shit (perhaps this is the physiological component of dependency on a narcotic). I take about 30 x Nurofen Plus at a time, and it does nothing for me, hence why I'm asking you guys and gals for some help. So please, read and follow up with any comments (contributory/negative, it doesn't matter) about available treatment options for my codeine problems. Now, in the big scheme of things, you may think to yourself "big fucking woop, I'm on 300 mg of Oxycontin daily!" and that's okay with me, but I have a problem, I recognize it and I'm willing to address the issue in a suitable manner.

Now, would any of the following medications be of any help to me?

Methadone (Which seems kind of dirty and expensive)

Naltrexone (Lie to my physician and tell him/her that I'm an alcoholic, due to Naltrexone proven benefit in stopping cravings for opiate-type drugs)

or the dreaded Subuxone (which is inappropriate IMO and case, because of the benzodiazepines that I take daily to control my anxiety, and the fatal combination of the two.)

is this available on the PBS? As in take away prescriptions of 28 tablets for the costs of a Low Income Health Care Concession's Card, or do we have to pay the FULL amount?
 
^Ok, time to address all your misconceptions.

1. 28 Suboxone tablets are not given at a time, to anybody.

2. compared to other treatments, bupe/methadone are quite cost effective, hitting around $30 a week at most chemists.

3. Eating that many nurofen tablets is HAZARDOUS to your health. Have you noticed any stomach problems lately? get checked.

4. Benzos + Bupe are not a fatal combination, many addicts take both.

5. For all prescriptions for OMT, the same price is generally paid - but this is decided by your pharmacist. The idea, or so they say - is that addicts need to get used to once again paying for things weekly/fortnightly and back into good habits. What truth there is to this I don't know.

No wonder they made this shit OTC when we have people like you being that irresponsible with it :\

And umm, they made this shit Shedule 3 and to my recollection it's always been OTC up here in Queensland. You have to hand over your license now, if you want a packet.
 
You can phone Biala (ground floor) who can arrange an outpatient detox on bupe. It's usually over 1 - 3 weeks with daily pick-ups. Ph: 3837 5600

Um no. If you're taking 30 N+ at a time you should do a CWE! I wouldn't have faith in cimetidine alone as the negative effects of ingesting that much ibuprofen are not going to be limited to gastic ulcers! Seriously it takes 5-10 minutes for a quick filter, and under 30 minutes if you're doing a second filter through paper.

CWE is even easier to do if u get the chemist owns brands that contains paracitaMOLEs.


and like belarki says, it takes 5-10min tops to do it. Not that hard at all.

and besides tahtss a lot of tablets to swallow each time u wana get high yo.
 
Yes Squiggle, i've been an opiate addict. I don't know if i'd call myself currently 'addicted' but I still use heroin frequently.

I've been on bupe and methadone. honestly I can say this, OMT is a nightmare to break away from, much worse than heroin.

Your codeine habits are destructive mate, and the routes you take to protect yourself over a 10 minute process are rubbish. Doctors don't agree about CWE, but there's proof in the fact of those who partake in the process not coming to harm.

Enjoy the inevitable peptic/stomach ulcers, gastric bleeding and your potential death.

I got 2 peptic ulcers as a direct result of NSAID use associated with abuse of codeine containing OTC pain killers, and yeh I take omeprazole too.

Don't be an idiot, do a proper CWE or you are going to cause some serious health issues for yourself.
 
Thanks guys. I'm thinking of not doing anymore codeine whatsoever. Taken from true vets in the field. OMT isn't the option for me, I've decided. I'm getting a blood test done on this Wednesday. Thanks guys, for pointing a young nigga in the right direction.

I was in this exact same situation about 5 years ago. They were the good old day when you could buy packs of 48 off the shelf or online and all you had to do to get the codeine out of the ibuprofen was split the pill down the middle. They don't do that anymore.

I went from a 600mg / day codeine habit onto Suboxone. It did the job as an opiate replacement but if anything, at the start it was getting me just as high as the codeine did. Over the years, it gradually settled into a tolerance to the point I could feel it but I wouldn't describe it as getting 'high'.

Five years later, I've quit my job so I can get off the stuff. I've gone down from 12mg to 4mg over about a three week period. I'm going to keep tapering until I get to 1mg and then see if I have the will to step-off completely. If I don't, I'll be going to detox.

The point is, going onto Suboxone might save you some pain right now but in the long-run, you'd be better off kicking the Codeine habit now and dealing with your addiction in the usual ways (meetings, counseling etc). Otherwise you'll almost certainly have to deal with serious health complications from the ibuprofen or possibly end up wasting years and thousands of dollars on maintenance treatment.

Just to clarify - if you go onto Suboxone you'll be expected to take it on the spot at the same pharmacy every day. After you build up some trust with your Dr. and pharmacist (could take months or years), you'll probably be given take-aways. I currently get 6 take-aways a week so I only have to go to the pharmacy once. From what I've seen, that's far from the norm - most people on methadone or Suboxone get 1-2 take-aways max.
 
Fuck that shit. OMT isn't for me, or anybody, for that matter. I just have to learn how to cope without being 'extra fucked up' all day long.

Cheers guys. You are wise people. Some people have it unlucky in life, aka you Regulator and I feel that you can do it, beat the addiction once and for good. :)
 
Whatever you do, please take steps to lower your ibuprofen intake. Whether it's quitting or CWEing, it's better than destroying your GI tract or causing cardiovascular side effects.

Haha no.... go and check out the clinic at some stage. The link probably isn't the best sorry. There are a range of services there though: everything from counceling to free blood tests and a needle exchange program. I's about a 5 minute walk from the Roma st train station. =D
 
For the take homes ,depends on where you are. Since the begining(5months ago)i was taking Buprenorphine with the script and take 7x8mg home.
Today,something magical hapened.... they put me on the list and give them for free...zitch...nada.
All i have to do was to take them 5 clean piss.(neither one of mine was totaly cleen i smoke like a motherfuckef,and take 10mg diazepam /day).I feel like is my birthday.
So ,Mr.Sqiglle,anything is better than what you do.Shoot H would be less harmless than that shit.

I was on pills too 20trams+??diazepams for 10years and eventualy i got on H for 2yrs.So my point is if you dont take Buprenorphine or other treatmant you dont have a much brite future.I am sorry but you could put bet on it. Look at your options and do the shit,just dont stay in the same point .

I was thinking something along the lines of Codeine Phosphate 30 mg x 20 tablets (without Paracetamol/APAP (For all y'all American people), to control my pain. What do you guys think? Except the doc thta i go to is strictly in for Codalgin Forte (which contains 500mgAPAP/30 mg Codeine) and is strongly against prescribing Schedule 8 narcotics (I do have neuropathic pain involved somewhere in my hand...:)). Or, I could I learn to cope without any OTC pain products come this Thursday, my CLEAN DAY!!
