my fucking TA skipped the 1 one on 1 help session.

BITCH.

Emailing my prof to get out of taking the test tomorrow now, I wonder if it's a good enough excuse.
 
Never even heard of it. Contrary to the title of the forum we are mostly junkies and ex-junkies. Refugees from OD's once great social thread. I do love me some weed though mang. So San Diego I presume?

Honestly, I severely doubt that. As a grad student, many of my friends are TAs, and their fuckup doesn't mean you don't have to take the test. Had you previously made an appointment/chatted via email with the TA?
 
Ah, I'm good, don't spend too much time in the social, just doing a little internet-whoring upon arriving home from school. Actually, I'm not really all that "good" but it's not TDS so it's an appropriate response haha. Although, I have debated using this thread to collect linguistic data before because I'm sure people will have some degree of fun telling each other they are wrong about things, heh. Yeah, essentially just dealing with my last semester of my Masters degree...seriously, if anyone wants to hire me/pay me okay/provide heath coverage/etc anytime soon, I'll be quite available and broke in a couple months :/

Masters in General Linguistics. Honestly, I have no idea what the fuck I want to do, the MA was only 3 more semesters and not very costly, and I enjoy linguistics, so I did it to kill time. But my killed time is now running out, and the real world will have to be faced. I'm not sure if I ever wanna teach NOT on the college level, I suppose with an MA I could at least do a part time gig at a community college and reevaluate if I'd want to go back for a PhD in anything at some point.

Yeah, I did have an appointment - and since I have a broken jaw, I'm on DSS (disabilities services for students), so I can probably bullshit my way into a make up on those two points alone.

but seriously, post moar here. it delivers on the lulz.
 
edit- for PC. Good for you. I'm sure you'll find something. I just assumed teaching because the couple people I know that got their masters did it to teach.

I got my masters because I felt like a bachelors, anyone could have, and I had to take the next step. Haha chainer, I decided to drop into your territory, I think I'm off to play really nerdy games (Catan, Carcassone, Risk...something of that nature, basically one really nerdy game that takes forever to play) with some of my fellow graduate students for the evening. :)
 
Working on my philosophy masters next sem... it's for backup teaching in case I find neurobiology increasingly boring.

I'd be happy making a upper xx,000 salary with tenure at a college level... very little work to be done :)

pc, lemme in on some of that risk. sounds like fun so long as you don't have the kid who flips out and throws the board across the room 2 hours into the game.
 
Haha, nah, they take it so seriously though. It's male dominated too, dunno why more of us chicks don't seem to like games. Teaching is something I do plan on doing at some point in my life, I feel like I want to have experience to teach about first, if that's logical. That's why a PhD would wait...I need to find something I love enough and WANT to write hundreds of pages on, and that hasn't happened yet.

Yuck advanced logic equations...thats a waste of space. This head driven phrase structure stuff is making me slowly hate formal everything. Thankfully I never had to take formal semantics...drawing AVMs with all sorts of odd looking symbols, aka trying to turn philosophy into math...not so much my thing. If you were talking like, pharyngeal consonants in arabic or something, I'd jump right on in haha. I like some computer stuff (computational linguistics, programming in PERL, computational psycholinguistics) though...I enjoy the theory more than implementing models by FAR.
 
hey pff there are other people here besides memph. i got yo back if memph is mean :)

what would be the best fighting words to start an internet duel with memph?
