ok so im not sure if this is the right place for this but you guys seem like the most knowlegable sources so.... I just wanted to kno about how long it take to lose your opiate tolerance??? im sure it depends on how much you use and for how long so ill tell you. i was taking between 100 to 150mg of oxycodone a day on a normal basis and sometimes between 160 to 320mg of oxycontin a day all bye snorting. so what do u guys think we be a good timline if u will to lose tolerance if u ever do. thanks

you have to be just a little more clear on your question and then I can answer it correctly.

Are you talking about how long it would take to lose your tolerance once you have completely quit taking opiates?

Or are you asking how long would it take you to taper down until you no longer had any tolerance to opiates?...etc...?

In my opinion, first of all, everyones different, so any answer your gonna get is just gonna be an educated guess. Only you know your body and only you should know how long it takes for your tolerance to go back to baseline, but since you dont know yet, well have to guess for you.
Also...some people NEVER lose all of there tolerance and live there life with a higher tolerance to opiates than most people, even thoug they quit using opiates recreationally years ago. i am one of those people....allthough I was actually born with a naturally high tolerance to opiates, allowing me to take up to ten 10mg vicodins at a time even when I just started taking them.

But my best guess, in your situation, it would only take a week being clean for you to dramatically tell a difference in your toelrance level....but it would probably take atleast a month, maybe more, for you to feel like you have completely lost your tolerance. In my experience, your tolerance drops somewhat very quickly in the beginning, and then it kind of slows down amd it takes much longer for you to actually lose that last bit of "tolerance".

Hoped this helps.

Thanks that is exactly what i wanted to know. And i was born the same way so i just wasnt sure if i would ever go back to that or if i would always have a higher tolerance than others. Once again thanks

No problemo....good luck. I hope your not having to quit oxy cold turkey just to lower your tolerance so you can get more high again.

ull most likely never get down the the 20mg high ...and even if u do it wont last long...

ur an addict, itl be hard to use "every once in a while" no matter how much confidence or niave'ness u have.

tolerance is a bitch, only way to get it down is to stop completely...itll be like a spiral effect

I have actually been clean if u will for a couple months but i need to have a surgery and im just worried that what they give me for pain wont be enough because i have such a high opiate tolerance and i kno im an addict and would never tell anyone differnet its an incurable disease if you will. im not looking to get high on wahtever tx is given to me. well not yet at least. i was just trying to see how long if ever my tolerance level would go down and how far down it would or might go. and i kno i cant "use" as a weekend warrior if you will ive already tried that and it didnt last very long so. but thanks for all of your help guys i knew i could count on you guys for the best answer to my question

absolutely not James that would be a bad move to go through the whole wd symptoms just to be able to take less to get high. You would be an idiot to do that. If ur gonna quit then quit don't just do it to get a lower tolerance to save a cpl bucks or something thats just my opinion but I'm sure ppl out there do it why i don't know but thats not what I'm looking to do

Your tolerance takes awhile to drop, several months of being clean.......You will get pretty damn high once you use again, but even after the first day of using you tolerances skyrockets again........opiate tolerance ftl

ill problly just end up talking to my surgeon about it so we can work together to make sure it stays under control i kno methadone can be used as a pain reliever so maybe i could take that instead of percs or oxys not sure though

I highly doubt that you have to worry about this during surgery. The doctors will ask you if you are feeling any pain, and they up your dose of pain meds accordingly. Its not like they just assume that you have the exact same tolerance as everyone else your size and give you a predetermined amount of meds and thats it, no more. EVERYONE is different and has a different tolerance level, and the doctors know this.....they will make sure you are well taken care of. They wouldn't wanna risk a lawsuit if you have to go through excruciating pain for one thing.

And your right, its a great idea to talk to your doctors about your concerns so they can be even more aware of the situation.
