CII perscriptions

do you have to have the perscription every time you get it filled. my doctor says i need to pick up a perscription every month for my ADD medicine, but i don't want to have to pay a copay every month. i live in arizona btw
 
yes, for a schedule II drug, you have to go pick up a script every month. no refills on a schedule II. now, if you make more than one visit in a month, you should be able to just call and have them write one up and you can pick it up.

like, I go to my doctors office every other day for chemo. so if my meds run out on a day I don't have an appointment. I can call, and they'll write out a script that I can just go pick up at the front desk.
 
that depends. have you had more than one visit to his office this month?

if anything, you could call and at least try. just call and be like "I'm out of my medication, is there any way I could get the doctor to write up a script and I can come pick it up". if they say yes, then just go and there shoudln't be a co-pay. but your other option is that they say no. thats it.

but if you do that, make sure you really are supposed to be out of your medication before asking. they keep records of the last time you had something filled, and if you go in asking and saying you're already out before you actually are supposed to be. its a red flag.

I just went through this today actually. got my script of ms contin's upped to 3 times a day instead of just 2. so I go to walgreens to get it filled. my insurance company won't pay for it until sunday because it hasn't been a full month on my last one (even though I"m out, and I"m not supposd to be). so needless to say, I walked out of walgreens today NOT a happy camper. but, at least I know I'll have my meds on sunday, bright and fuckin' early!
 
Every doctor I've ever had would write CII refills without an appointment. That means without any additional fees/copays.

Of course you still have to pay the pharmacy.
 
I also live in Arizona. You do have to have an appointment every time you get a CII prescription filled. I have to pay a co-pay, as I do every time I have to visit the office with him, as he asks how I'm doing and all that other stuff. The reason why you have to go to the office every time you get a CII prescription is because you need to turn in the written script to the pharmacy. One of the rules that apply for Schedule II drugs is that they can't just be called in like Schedule III, IV or V drugs. Your also only allowed a months worth of medicine to be filled at a time. The pharmacy and doctor will make sure of this, as those are the rules.
 
Yea the dr has to physically see you every month. Atleast for my pain medications I have to go every month and have a paper script in hand at the pharmacy. My Valium and Klonopin I get 4 refills on and have to go talk to my shrink.
 
As of 2007 doctors can give you three sequentially dated 30-day prescriptions on paper for CII drugs, allowing someone to get a 90 day supply

I read that they have to right the 30-day prescriptions on 3 different prescription pads, allowing for a 90 day supply. Can you highlight where I read wrong?

Another commenter suggested rescheduling methylphenidate and amphetamines, except methamphetamine, to separate them from pain medications because the two populations for ADHD medications and pain medications are different.

I like the idea of allowing 90 days without having to see the doctor and just turning in the 3 scripts every 30 days. However its up to the doctor and I have yet to see a doctor allow this for me.

I think we're both saying the same thing - there must be three separate paper prescriptions written to allow for a 90 day supply, but they can be written and given at one time. You just have to fill them every 30 days versus having typical refills on the same script.
 
what I was saying was that I go several times in one month (I go every other day) so I guess thats why I'm able to just call up to my doctors office and they can have a written one ready for me when I get there to pick it up, no co-pay because that wasn't an appointment. actually, I don't have a copay anywayz with the insurance I have.

but I do have a question. yesterday, I was told the insurance company wouldn't cover my script of 90# MS Contin's until sunday the 26th (tomorrow) could I go to a 24 hour pharmacy past midnight tonight and get it filled?
 
that sucks, you must not go in as often.

I'm calling my oncologist about him/her writing a script of my morphine IR for my mom to pick up on her way home from school tomorrow.
 
wow, they only gave you one IR a day?

I don't know much about them, but I always thought standard was 2 a day. I guess 1 a day would make it easier to sleep though.
 
as long as you have a new script, you can get the meds...even the day after you put your script in the pharmacist has to (unless shes an asshole)..but then it makes you look shady
 
if you just got on them, def wait. I'd give it about 3 months before asking for a dose increase.

I don't know how I got away with getting so much morphine (really I dn't get much) but I got increased pretty quickly, but thats because I have cancer and I guess they feel bad for me.
