Ive tried klonopin, ativan, xanax, restoril, and valium so far. I haven't really liked what I've been getting with my restoril at night. Maybe its just the teva brand I got who knows. I also do NOT like klonopin as it seems to alter my mood and make me very emotional. I don't know what other benzos I should give a try that are available in the US that most doctors wouldn't have a problem prescribing. Any opinions would be nice.

I don't want sedation during the day and thats what the klonopins been doing. I honestly think ativan would be a better choice but at 3mgs......I want a longer acting benzo but I think I'm running out of options. I dont ever want xanax again as it also made me like the klon is making me. :\

why are u taking benzos?

ativan is good tho , but 3mg? thats hefty...

do u have a tolerance?

put more info and a question and people will be answering

I have been on benzos for 3 years now. Almost 4. I started with Xanax and ended up taking 14 a night and abusing/using them like that to get any relief. Then I switched to klonopin, ativan, and to valium. I now take klonopin and and restoril for night.

My prescribed meds are 1mg klonopin and 15mg restoril at night. I dont like it. It doesn't seem like enough and the klonopin tends to give me more pardoxical effects than anything. It makes me moody or relaxed and I get knocked out. I don't like it. I have a big tolerance. My current doctor said he didn't want to over medicate me. Right now I have been using 1 and a half or 2mgs of klonopina nd if I NEED to a few restoril if one doesn't work at night. It seems if your not tired the restoril wont work. I asked about halcion for sleep and he said he hasn't prescribed that in 10 years. any ideas? I'm thinking getting back on valium and ativan instead of resotril but I did tell my doc ativan was only benzo I had problems with......I meant that I had to take a lot just wasn't specific. It was great relief at a bigger dose. Moreso than Valium. I think maybe Valium is better for me though? I dunno what other options there is?

To the OP:

In the US of A-Holes pretty much the only options that you have left are:

Chlordiazepoxide
Clobazam
Estazolam
Nitrazepam
Oxazepam
Triazolam

Estazolam, Triazolam & Nitrazepam are for sleep, the other three are weak as hell. There are many other benzodiazepines but I only listed pretty much the rest that are scripted in USA.

If Clonazepam and Alprazolam are too sedating than you may want to go with the Lorazepam. 3mg is comparable to 1.5mg of Xanax or Klonopin. You won't find any other benzos that last longer than Klonopin or Ativan.

I thought Ativan was really long lasting........For some reason I thought it sedated to much while I was Starting Methadone, but I think it may have been me getting used to methadone. What is probably the best night time benzo in everyones opinion?

Ativan is long-lasting. Up to 8 hours. My favorite hypnotic is Temazepam.

It's mine too but If I take it for a consecutive amount of time it seems to be bad and give me small sleep apnea...

I dont really want to give up the temazepam because they come in handy when I'm completely feeling horrible with racing thoughts

The USA doesn't have nitrazepam available.
Everytime I get nitrazepam I get them from Windsor, ON right across the river from where I live in Detroit.

Diazepam and alprazolam are still Rxed in the USA.

I'm shocked that a doctor would Rx temazepam before diazepam. The temazepam is one of the most sedating benzos out there and is well known to cause daytime sleepiness.

If you are looking for a hypnotic benzo in the US: Temazepam and Triazolam are the way to go, by far the best commercially available hypnotics.

If you are looking for an anxiolytic then I'd go with: Diazepam or Clonazepam.

I think I need to switch back to my 20mg a day valium it seems like it would be smoother I may need to set up an apt just curious. I dunno seems sedating and I actually feel nervous and anxious now i get paradoxical effects from the shit. A little TOO sedating in some scenerios but reallly takes the edge off I just wanna find the best thing for me. Maybe this is it.... I do like temazepam. I am just honest I wont leave until my problem is to My interest and best outcome mentally. I know what my body likes and doesn't. sort of 8)

Don't worry I'm kind of in the same boat, I'm still searching for answers too. I Started on klonopin over 9 months ago, and it takes a higher dose for me now than it did back then for me to get any relief. On top of that I'm taking an extra benzo on top of it at night because I still can't sleep and have anxiety. I'm not having the full-out panic attacks anymore, but still a lot of anxiety. I know I'm dependent on benzos now to even stay afloat, and I'm not sure where I'll go from here to ever get back to where I was before I ever came down with my anxiety disorder.

It sucks. Last night it made me totttallly anxious. I just wasn't getting much from the Valium but it wasn't making me excited like this klonopin. Not that I don't like being excited but sometimes its overwhelming and like blah. fuck.

Maybe I was better off with xanax but I dunno. Valium seems to be what I need to switch back too. I just wish they made 15mg pills. or20...shesh..

how is life being dependent on benzos? I feel like i'm dependent on them in the sense where i don't feel like i'm really me without them.

for anxiety some non sedating benzos are bromazepam, clorazepate, tetrazepam and oxazepam (off the top of my head)... they are quite weak so you might need quite a high dosage, but they do work for anxiety during the day...

as for hypnotics for sleeping i recommend loprazolam or lormetazepam but i think the latter isn't available in the US... of course flunitrazepam (roofies/Rohypnol) is probably the strongest hypnotic available in the US, but it causs loads of amnesia, and most docs won't Rx it

I know this is old, but I think clorazepate is available in the US, and Nitrazepam isn't anymore. The guy saying he was getting em from across the pond in Windsor is right. As for Estazolam, I was hearing a lot about it here and elsewhere in the early 2000's but it never was available in Canada and I hope it didn't go the way of the dodo with Nitraz
