Hi all,

I couldn't find any proper advice on this in the search function. I was thinking of buying a shisha/hookah pipe off ebay for smoking flavoured tobacco. I know in SA its illegal to buy bongs and pipes and stuff like that for smoking weed, however i know you can still buy "water pourers" aka bongs and tobacco pipes from stores in the city.

Seems like the law applies to people selling these items for the consumption of illegal drugs and not for people posessing?

Just wondering if customs would confiscate this or even ping me for this if i tried to get one in from the UK or lebanon?

dunno bout that mate, even though they still avail in the city, i wouldn't want to get pulled over with one...
melbourne can still send bongs here, cant buy but can send...

I don't see how it could be, they have a hookah bar on hindley street which has been running for years, so I'd imagine it's perfectly legal.

Yeah they are legal as far as I know. I have a mate whose persian and his family takes it out to family get togethers.

I dont think bongs, pipes or anything like that are illegal here. Weed isnt the only thing peopel can smoke out of it u know. There are literally hundreds of things u can smoke.

South Australia bans the bong

Attorney-General Michael Atkinson today welcomed the Parliament's passage of legislation that will outlaw the sale of drug paraphernalia in South Australia.

Mr Atkinson says the legislation responds to the widespread public concern that paraphernalia intended for use with illicit drugs is freely available from drug-culture shops in South Australia.

"Despite the best efforts of the Liberal Party legal affairs spokesman Isobel Redmond and Independent M.P. Kris Hanna to undermine this legislation, the Rann Labor Government has banned the bong," Mr Atkinson says.

Under the legislation, adopted by the Government after originally being introduced by Independent M.L.C. Ann Bressington, offenders who sell drug paraphernalia will face penalties of up to $50,000 or two years imprisonment.

The defined paraphernalia under the new laws will be:
hookahs;
bongs;
water pipes;
hash pipes;
ice pipes; and
cocaine kits.

Mr Atkinson says the courts have been consistent in holding that an offence can be established only if the person in possession can be proved beyond reasonable doubt to have intended for the equipment to be used in connection with preparing or consuming an illicit drug, either by themselves or by someone else.

"To my knowledge just a handful of cases have been brought against commercial outlets selling drug paraphernalia because of the difficulty of proving that the seller intended the equipment be used in connection with preparing or consuming an illicit drug," Mr Atkinson says.

"This legislation ensures that this does not continue by outlawing the sale of drug paraphernalia by criminalising the intent to sell a range of closely defined implements, rather than equipment generally.

"Commercial outlets retailing drug paraphernalia in South Australia will now either have to shut up shop, as Smoke Signals at No. 34 Hindley Street has done, or find another line of business."

Mr Atkinson says criminalising the supply side of the market should restrict the circulation of this paraphernalia and reinforce the message that drug consumption is illegal.

Interestingly this article claims that "possession of drug paraphernalia a criminal offense punishable by up to two years in jail or a $50,000 fine", whereas the one I pasted above only refers to the sale of such items.

And unsurprisingly (mainly given the demographic of internet users) the poll with this article show a resounding opposition ;)

is it as bad for your health as cigarettes or what?, haha i remember trying to put 7grams of weed in one of them, damn it was harsh! it was a waste of weed

Maybe as it is water filtered it would be a little better. Who knows for sure though.

If you use charcoal you are vapourising the substance so it should have produced a decent high when used with weed.

Had one for ages, brought in QLD @ a tobacconist who also supplied all the flavoured molassified tobacco, still got it occasionaly use it, mever had weed in it, id be surprised if that could be considered an impliment especialy if there is no weed resin in it and even supposeing there was, the things come apart and are easily cleaned:\
