Real raves (for clarification in the USA "rave" refers to giant commerical shitfests)

Birds is considered offensive by some girls, hasn't ever stopped me using it though. :\

What the hell is wrong with calling birds erm birds? Totally acceptable word to call a lady. I've never been told it's offensive.

I must say I'm still a bit of a sucker for glowsticks and hardcore, but I've not been 'raving' for ages. Rockworld in Manchester used to have an hour just devoted to electronic music, and it was funny to see all these goths and metallers pull out glowsticks and start jumping about and gurning like fuck. It was my first clubbing experience of any sort, so I still had a soft spot for the place. Shame it closed. It was dark, dirty and full of birds and drugs.

its a shame that placed has closed down, last time i went was in about 2003 when i was working up north. I remember 1 night in the DJ went from a pantera track which had a few people on the dancefloor to MC hammers - you can't touch this. the place went fucking mental the bar emptied in seconds and everyone legged it to the dance floor.

it was hilarious watching all these punks/goths/metal heads getting down and doing the hammer time shuffle.

Anytime I've been in a rock club even though I'm not violent at all it's made me want to glass cunts. The way they all head bang about the dancefloor and windmill their hair about pretending to play the guitar. Most annoying thing to watch ever. I know they're just having fun but they look like total pricks.

I know some awesome rockers with great speed and hilarious hair. The ones I know are way more friendly and also tongue in cheek than you'd give them credit for from the way they dress.

The problem with rock clubs is that they play the same fucking songs every week and somehow the cunts that go lap it up.

Seeing the same people mosh to killing in the name of every week made me hate those places.

A lot of clubs play the same music every week though unless it's different club nights on.

Not a fan of the harder styles of dance music, that Free Party Animal track up there ^^ is fucking horrible but I cannae deny how good the 303 sounds in that Chris Liberator track. I really want a 303!!!

Everybody needs a 303, or how about 2 of em and 808 and 909 drum machines thrown in.

Used to have hours of fun twiddling about with this, on a good mdma sesh. Looks like its free now, cool.

Lol you can get it for iphone too.

Nothing beats that synth <3

Acid on saturday. 303+606=909!

When it comes to EDM, sorry, but the US is light ages behind, mind commercial David Getalife and KilltheMouse type music. At least you guys have Detroit which still produces talent like no other, but other that, that's it. I don't want to sound like an elitist, but the music scene as the on in the posted video, can appeal only to 17-20 year old's in the the state... The chick are HOT though, but, that is it... It is a bunch of kids just having fun with some mdma and commercial music. Once they get of college, that is it... Drugs are bad and become new born Christians :) etc... That scene has no foundation, nothing is real about it... It is the Mc Donalds of EDM...

Go to Panorama Bar in Berlin at 10:00 in the morning on a Sunday. The crowd is 25-40, the music something else, you can feel that you belong, that the scene there has something real... I have had the most amazing discussions with people there, sober, and not.

Am i rambling to much?

Light years behind, oh really. I love it when white Europeans tell Americans (who invented house and techno) that their scene sucks. Excuse me dude, go the Shelter in NYC at 10AM to see Timmy Regisford, or Tony Humphries, or visit a David Mancuso party then tell me the US is light years behind.

House and techo remain amazingly strong and creative in the US, but most of it remains in the underground, where it belongs. Big is not always better. But its not nearly as much about the drugs in the US compared to the UK. With ecstasy there would be no European house scene, but the originators and inventors of house in the US had almost no use for the drug.

As for you Felix....you need to RELAX my friend and try to enjoy what is around you....you seem to be always looking for something ahead. As we discussed last time you were in Amsterdam, you won't find the perfect party until you stop looking.

Most of the more obscure electronic genres seem dead over there though. I've had a few americans come over and they were all impressed with what they saw and heard.

Or i'm just checking the wrong American forums

& Zeg nu zelf, gabber en tekno in Amerika? ;)

EDIT: Also they've got booty house/ghettotech and a thriving scene in detroit (and many many MANY other cities) . I want some of that bootyshakin' down here in Europe, hehe.

I've got rebirth on my ipod touch, had it on the pc years ago. So much fun %)

There's a few ghetto tech nights & DJs in Glasgow, seems to be getting quite big here.

Re Ghettotech: Disco D, big fat pimp, dick stay hard, never go limp. RIP.

His ghettotech sets were rinsing. I believe some are still available over at themixingbowl.org along with many other smashing sessions encompassing all known genres. He was a seppo and all. Check 'Live in Paris' and 'Smack My Pitch Up' for some proper fast thunderous FILTHY dirty filth dirt.

Bangface is always a quality night out. They try and capture the spirit of the early 90's hardcore rave days. Next one is in October.

So if I was black would me opinion have more weight in your opinion ?:| Should I post a pic of my dick, will that make you feel better?

If you wanted to quote quality underground house music from the states you could of thrown a name like Seth Troxler at me, or for harder sounds, maybe Matthew Dear, but, what do you, Timmy Regisford hahahahhaha....

And the US in not only NY, LA and SF... Jesus country is fucking big mate!

Acid house was born in Europe, then filtered through the States, Detroit, Chicago etc which is what in turn became techno, house... I have no intention to argue as to where are the origins of EDM music on this board. That is typical American stereotype bullshit, We Invented Everything Complex...

So 'DUDE' maybe you should do some reading at more importantly listening, and by listening, maybe start with the quality music made there, David Mancuso, next thing you will be saying is that David Morales is quality...

Wow, you really are a typically cultural arrogant motherfucker.

House and techno came from Chicago, NY and Detroit, period. There is no debate on that. As for dissing DAVID MANCUSO, whose Loft Parties in the 1970s essentially created the scene we have today, amazing.

Any Timmy, do you even know who the fuck that is? You heard of a little place called the SHELTER in NYC where he has been playing 5AM-5PM sets since you before you were even shitting in your diapers.

Fuck if it ain't WHITE and it ain't from Europe, its shit right? I bet you all invented jazz too.

Dude, you can take your fucking 150bpm shit and shove it up your ass, people like you will never understand.

So Acid house came from EUROPE and filtered to the USA? Ha, the first acid track was played by Ron Hardy at the Music Box in CHICAGO.

And I will be seeing Jeff Mills soon, I will make sure he tells Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins that techno came from European acid house.

Europe did not invent house or techno my friend. Get over it and grow the fuck up.

So lets debate mate. Start of by explaining your diss of David Mancuso and Timmy Regisford. How do either of them suck?

PS: I hear that Eric Clapton was the first bluesman? Any truth to that? HAHAHAHAHAHA

You are joking aren't you? Studio B was the only semi-decent club in NYC and now it's closed. If you think this is the pinacle of 'the scene' then you haven't climbed very high! :p

In defence of the US scene - very high quality MDMA and weed. Some great people too. But 'raves' you don't get. Be happy with what you have. It works better for you than what us 'white europeans??' have. The US loves the commercial scene - we are happy for you to keep it! :)

I guess grew out of raves in 1995 or so, so please give me a fucking break.

The pinnacle of any scene is based on the music you like, we may not have the same tastes in music. There is no one single scene that is the best.

That being said, anyone over here listening to EDM should get down and kiss the great green earth in thanks for those that came before them. And many, many of the total originators came from the black community of the US. To hear that ain't shit is the same cultural superiority that has been coming out of the mouths of Europeans for 100s of years.

The fact that the 'defense' you could offer a musical scene is the drugs (yeah I know this is a drugs board) tells me about your priorities though.

I am curious, how long did you live in NYC?
