Why do people without ADHD like amps?

Im not sure what section this goes in but I figured since my perspective on amps is in the minority it might help other people see amps in a somewhat different perspective so i put it here. Feel free to move (like i have a say in the matter :)).

So I have ADHD, anxiety(comes and goes), depression (comes and goes), and possibly some other learning disability. I take addy for the adhd, lexapro (might be changed soon since it makes me sweat balls, but so do many ohter Anti-D's), and kpins for the anxiety.

So with the background info out of the way I was wondering why some people actually like stims like adderall? I know the whole college student study thing (being a 20 yr old in college myself), but i have heard of people using them recreationally. Now i dont mean taking them and going out drinking or to a rave, but just taking because they are fun and they like how they make them feel.

I empathize with the onset of the euphoria, but for me my medicine has no recreational value beyond that. Am I missing something? sorry if this is a dumb question but ive asked many places and people and never gotten a concise answer.

It's kinda like caffeine — some people love it, some don't like because they get jittery. Personally I love the euphoria and stimulation of speed.

Do you really think you need lexapro and klonopin? I find that stimulants, particularly amphetamine are enough for all of those conditions.

Tbh for now i do "need" them until i can find/come to terms with my source(s) of my anxiety and depression. Amps only help me concentrate and give a little euphoria. As for the jitteryness for me it's more like controlled chaos. Tho another reason i dont like amps is because i have a very good sense of taste and eating is one of the few pleasures in life that hits that "primal" spot for me. If people do it for the euphoria why not try other drugs? not to bash or anything im just poking around in your heads.

When I was abusing amphetamines, it was because they gave me more of a clean energetic euphoria than any other substance. I was full charged, talkative, confident, etc....everything that I was not when I wasn't on them. And to be honest I get more anxiety from caffeine than I used to get from amps, so they were my happy pills that I would take anywhere anytime if they were available, without really much anxiety or comedown.

So yeah they are definitely recreational for those that like the high, but I would imagine it is a different experience for somebody with ADHD, or for somebody who does not like the feeling of being wired.

euphoria
sense of knowing
increased sociability, talkative
energy
racing thoughts of "importance"

bottom line, people like to get high

It is a misconception that they affect non-adhd people differently.. Someone with adhd just needs a little more to really start feeling the buzz.

I always loved getting high on amps, thought the high was better than, say, any opiate I've tried. Too bad the comedown is such a bitch.

I do have adhd though..

Well . Dude . Amps make me feel like a BOSSS!

I can talk to anybody , I'm confident , I actually have some energy(both physical and mental- I usually have no energy and am unmotivated ), I'm motivated , there's mental clarity, there's a slight body high , increased libido, not many side effects with my personal once a week
rule :-P ...

... What more can I say ?
Amps and stims in general just make u feel superhuman.and for me they make me a totally different person which is good cause I hate the waay I am (lazy, shy, can't think of what to say in convos , apathetic , depresssed , etc) And I don't know an

I second/third/fourth what the last 3 posters have said :P

Even though my only real amph experience (not including MDMA and mixed/bogus pills back in the day) came from occasional college Adderall binges.

I didn't have ADD back then (have trouble concentrating these days, but I blame alcohol/cannabis abuse for that, however misguided).

Interestingly enough, when I'd take Adderall, I would get tweaked like crazy .. but couldn't concentrate for sh*t. I was simply too spun.

Everything else said above was true for me tho. Would get a mad rush for hours; hit up everyone online (and feel more connected than ever); take over discussions in class; bounce around my room; go run a few miles; work all nite; and crash hard. ugh.

Meth has been a decades-long scourge on my current community. I've never run across it, I guess cos I don't hang with seedy types (or anyone really..)
I despite tweakers for all the crime they commit. Given the chance I'd probably join the rank though, although those comedowns often made it seem not worth it.

Honestly, while I'm a skeptic, I've never really believed in A.D.D. What kid doesn't have trouble concentrating?
A psych once said I had ADD, which my Mom refused to believe. It's just a bullsh*t label.
I think people with ADD don't get off on amphs only cos they've got a tolerance and are taking a steady dose. Same thing would happen to anyone who eats the same MG each day for a month or year.

I personally tingle all over when i've taken enough, gives one sentimental feelings about the importance of life, it can really get the ego going fire you up, it's a "cleaner" stimulant which means you can get much more high taking it without having bad side effects as compared to something stimulating but more dangerous such as ephedrine.

yeah i also think that amps have the same effect on everybody. They just put you in an extremely focused state which people with add have trouble achieving without it.

This is kind of the category I am in. Low dose amps make me feel dysphoric. However, I go on amphetamine binges every once in a while in order to get some task completed. I don't do it for the euphoria, and for it to even be manageable I need to take more suboxone and xanax than I usually do. I typically try to stay up for 3-4 days at a time on these binges (halfway through 4 days the beginnings of psychosis become perceptible, day 5 I'm seeing people who aren't there and engaging in completely inappropriate paranoid behavior).

I put myself through this because the productivity possible is unrivaled by anything else. I read all of The Brothers Karamazov in 4 days, which is pretty goddamn impressive (it would have taken me a month otherwise). I don't find it particularly useful for social scenarios at these doses however, especially because I become bat shit crazy and am prone the fits of anger I do not usually experience. Can't recommend it though, I am sure it is highly neurotoxic, although I do not allow myself more than one binge a month (typically 700-900 mg a binge).

when people without add or adhd take amphetamines it makes are brains go into "overdrive"
we think clearer, harder, and faster
