The OPEN foundation is proud to present: 'Mind Altering Science – An OPEN Conference on Psychedelic Research', at the University of Amsterdam, on the 23th and the 24th of October 2010. From the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with MDMA, and the use of ibogaine as a tool to combat addiction, to the globalization of ayahuasca religions; 'Mind Altering Science' will be the first conference on Dutch soil that offers a multidisciplinary perspective on recent developments in the exciting field of psychedelic research.

The two-day conference will include a variety of lectures, interactive dialogues and presentations of recent research data. Academics, therapists and medical professionals from various countries will discuss the use of psychedelics from their own disciplinary perspective. Everyone with an eagerness to lean more about psychedelic research is invited to attend this unique event, whether they are researchers, medical professionals or students.

We are happy to present the following international experts as our main speakers:

Andrew Sewell PhD (US)
Peter Oehen MD (CH)
Bia Labate PhD (BR)
Jordi Riba MD (ES)
Jose Carlos Bouso MD (ES)
Adele van der Plas (NL)
Stephen Snelders (NL)
David Luke PhD (UK)
Dr. Anwar Jeewa (SA)
Amanda Feilding (UK)

For more information on the conference, visit the website: www.mindalteringscience.com. Through this website you can also subscribe to our English conference newsletter.

For more information about the OPEN foundation, visit our website at www.stichtingopen.nl. Unfortunately, our website is temporarily only available in Dutch.

Presale tickets are available through our site; early birds get an additional discount (as do students!). So don't hesitate to register!
We hope to see you at 'Mind Altering Science'!

Dear all,
Stichting open is glad to inform you that we have confirmed two other
speakers since the original post!

Joining us in October is Katharina Kirchner, who worked with Peter
Gasser on the MAPS sponsored study into "LSD-Assisted Psychotherapy in
the Treatment of Anxiety Secondary to Life Threatening Illness". We
are very happy that she will be able to present her studies to the
audience of the Mind Altering Science, is this is indeed cutting edge
research.

Dr. Torsten Passie has also been confirmed as a speaker at the
conference. We're very glad to have him on board, as his research on
human consciousness and alternate states is innovative and daring. We
are very curious about his contribution to the conference and hope you
are too.

visit http://www.mindalteringscience.com for more information.
(Discount on tickets if you order before the end of August!)

Looks interesting, I'd love to go, though I'm not sure whether I'll be able to afford the trip to Amsterdam or not. If I can I'll certainly be making an appearance though.

Back with more news about the Conference:

Dr. Stephen Snelders has confirmed his participation at our conference! He will open the conference on Saturday morning with a lecture called "Research and therapy with hallucinogens in the Netherlands revisited". He is a Dutch researcher, lecturer and (among others) writer of the book "LSD Therapy in the Netherlands". More information about him can be found here.

The topic of Dr. Jordi Riba's lecture on Saturday the 23rd has also been established. He will talk about the (safety of) administration of ayahuasca to humans in a clinical setting, the topic of his presentation being "Clinical Research on Ayahuasca: from Basic Physiology to Neuroimaging". Subjects that will be addressed are the pharmacology and the mechanisms of action on the human brain, of both past and future studies. Once again, this is a lecture we are highly interested in and hope you are too!

Thanks for the comments! We hope that some of you will be able to make it!

I'm a bit surprised by the low count of responses to this thread. Would I go too far when calling some folks hypocritical when their interest for drugs does not go farer than discussing the quality of the latest RC, while serious meetings like "Mind Altering Science" are announced?! This lack of interest surprises me.

The list of speakers looks interesting, in particular when considering that Stichting OPEN was brought to live not before 2006 (and furthermore one can even combine it with a short trip to the Dam). I've seen e.g. Torsten Passie 2008 in Basel and his input was quite inspiring, to say the least. They have a representative from MAPS, and swiss Peter Oehen who's in the board Swiss Medical Association for Psycholytic Therapy. These guys are among the international elite in the current revival of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.

There must be some Europeans here that appreciate chances like this. Come on guys!

Peace! - Murphy

That would be an amazing place to be. Imagine how interesting the talks would be. I hope someone goes and reports back with knowledge they have gained. I hope we can create a link to discussion on the different topics they cover.

Needless to say: I'll be there for sure. :)

I guess this is the first European conference on psychedelic research since the 2006 and 2008 Basel conferences. I know of the MAPS conference of course, but that must've been too far away for most Europeans. Not that many reasons not to come if you have a serious interest in psychedelics, if you ask me...

First of all, it's quite cheap (if you order before October, only 37,50 for students and 55 for non-students), second of all: which psychonaut doesn't like Amsterdam and third (I'm just making reasons up as I go): new results on psychedelic research will be discussed! What's there not to like? ;)

One more addition to the programme: with only 5 weeks to go until the conference, we can proudly say that yet another speaker has been added to the programme. Joining us in October, Dr. Konstantin Kuteykin-Teplyakov will give a lecture on the following topic: "Molecules of mysticism: pharmacology meets anthropology". In his lecture he will review the molecular mechanism of action for psychedelics (receptors and signal transduction, involved in specific psychoactive properties), and also discuss modern methods, both experimental and media-based, to study the relationship between mind-altering substances and behaviour.

As the conference keeps getting closer and closer, we keep confirming more and more speakers. We are very excited to announce that one of our newest additions to the programme is none less than criminal lawyer Adèle van der Plas. She has been involved in the legalisation of Dutch Santo Daime churches and has handled several 'magic mushroom' cases. The topic of her lecture will be: “Ayahuasca under national and international law: The Dutch Santo Daime cases”. Needless to say, we are very happy to have her present at the Mind Altering Science conference!

Another speaker who has been added to the programme is Dr. Konstantin Kuteykin-Teplyakov. He will give a lecture on the following topic: "Molecules of mysticism: pharmacology meets anthropology". In his lecture he will review the molecular mechanism of action for psychedelics (receptors and signal transduction, involved in specific psychoactive properties), and also discuss modern methods, both experimental and media-based, to study the relationship between mind-altering substances and behavior.

Also we've made an arrangement with Lloyd Hotel Amsterdam. Visitors of our conference are offered rooms for a reduced rate. Visit our website for more information about these accommodations.

Please note that tickets at a reduced rate are only available until Friday. So save yourself some money and get your ticket today!

We were suprised by that as well! I tried contacting the moderator team if they would like help promoting this event by pinning the topic, or posting some news about it on the opening page of the website. But I have seen no reaction. So any help with that would be greatly appreciated!

I'm just a lurker, but i'd like to say that i feel privileged to be attending this! Very much looking forward to attending :)

Wow, I would LOVE to be able to go. Work schedule and lack of funding makes it impossible to get from my continent to yours though. :(

Sounds wonderful though. Thanks for doing this!

Getting people to notice "serious" stuff on forums where people come to talk about drugs can be challenging. It tends to get lost in the clutter... good job posting updates. Maybe the fact that I posted will get some more people to notice it for the first time. :)

Dear friends,

Less than a week before the Mind Altering Science conference starts! This is the final update.

After a long struggle we managed to put the (almost) final version of the conference schedule online. Please have a look at the Programme. You might have noticed that Bia Labate is no longer scheduled; unfortunately she had to cancel her lecture. We apologize to all of you who were looking forward to hearing her - so were we.

All regular tickets have been sold out. There are 100 tickets left for seats on the balcony. What this means is that you will still be inside the conference room, just a little further away. To compensate for this minor discomfort, we are offering a discount on all ticket prices! Get your ticket now, before it's too late!

Visit mindalteringscience.com for tickets and more information!

Hope to see you in Amsterdam next weekend!
Stichting OPEN.

^Sounds like you've got a decent attendance. Anyone who can travel by car, bus, or train to the conference who cares about the psychedelic experience is obligated to go.
