Recently I have been reading more about the plant mentioned in the title, the seed of Nigella sativa (black onion seed, black seed), the little black aromatic seeds so often found on naan breads.
Anticancer/antiangiogenesis properties aside, they appear to be a painkiller, the active compound, thymoquinone reminds me almost of propofol, structurally, odd mechanism of action from the looks of it, anybody know what? it potentiates opioids apparently (I am about to find out, I think:D) but shares no crosstolerance in morphine-dependent rats, but appears to provide at least a good deal of relief to some poor murine souls that were made forcibly morphine dependent, then made to withdraw.
Endocannabinoid reuptake inhibitor? FAAH inhibitor? other fatty acid amide hydrolase inhibitor? enkephalinase inhibitor?
I am currently partway through ingesting around 6g of seeds, after grinding and pulverising to a fairly oily, gritty powder in a mortar and pestle, and mixed in golden syrup to a thick paste.
Quite delicious actually, far better than most drugs turn out to be.
To be followed by a moderate dose of dihydrocodeine tartrate in a short time to allow action.
My theory is that it is an enzyme inhibitor, possibly acting on either the endocannabinoid system or on enkephalinase.
Thoughts? experiences?
Not to mention, this concoction is so tasty, I could really bake it into the crust of some sweet honeycakes, or a sweet, heavy bread glazed with honey and maple syrup and eat it for breakfast, hell, maybe with poppy seeds
