Man that's so trippy...

I was just wondering if anyone else has found that things are supposed to be "trippy" to be a bit of a bad buzz when doing psychedelics? (in my particular case LSD/shrooms)

I remember that this first bothered me when I was at a warehouse rave, inside the warehouse were all these fluro things dancing across the walls, all these preset costumed bartenders, props placed around and it just felt like such a massive ruse. I just knew it was all fake and didn't really have any grounding in reality. Don't get me wrong, it is tolerable but I always get this feeling like I am wasting my time in places like that (on psychs, on other drugs it's completely fine, I even appreciate it).

I feel the same way about "trippy" movies. At first I was like everyone else, I lined up all these weird, cult movies (Holy Mountain, Fear and Loathing) for whenever I could get my hands on LSD and it was all well and good but then after watching a movie I decided to flick on normal television and I found myself appreciating it a lot more and getting more tripped out by them.

The thought process being that normal television just felt like it was grounded in reality, that people all around the country are watching this and yet there was so many nuances that I picked up that made the idea that people watched this sober and were enjoying it was completely absurd.

The same goes for going to a place that is supposed to trip you out, with all these crazy dancing shapes moving across the walls. It just felt like a giant facade, it felt like it was a joke that they were playing on everyone there and quite frankly it felt a bit lazy, as if you didn't even need to use your imagination. However when I go to places like parks, the city, supermarkets, places that are percieved as normal and places that I accept as normal in everyday life just reveal these little nuances that make them amazing on psychs.

I know a lot of my friends that I trip with agree with me in varying degrees but I am the only one I know that feels so strongly about the issue. Is anyone out there the same way? If so where have you been?

watching real tv on lsd really makes you realize how big of a joke everything on tv is....its all garbage...its almost like its designed to make you stupid.

Nature supplies the most trippy stuff there is...

A walk in the woods, sitting next to a roaring brook, sunsets, the sky ...clouds and stars.

One of the most astounding things I've seen was being in a large meadow one moonless dark night. The stars were out blazing and everywhere on the ground as far as the eye could see were glow-worms..it was like being suspended in space.

^ This. The things that seem trippy to us normally aren't so trippy when on psychedelics and the things that are normal to us normally often become very trippy on psychedelics.

Nature is the "trippiest" thing for me, like looking through trees and the way light manages to find it's way through hundreds of branches.

I feel the same as you, though I must admit I love fear and loathing in las vegas not because I find it a trippy movie but just because it makes me hysterical with laughter because all psyche users can relate.

You don't need to waste your acid trip to figure that out.

I find very simple things to be extremely trippy...

For instance, music is a bit trippy while on acid or whatever , but if you unplug the cd player, plug in a synthesizer, and just hold one note down, and keep slowly adjusting the parameters of the synth, that is A LOT more fun than listening to musc.

But when it comes to visual things, I prefer to look at a cieling fan that is OFF rather than looking at some winamp visualizations or whatever...

i couldnt say the same for electric sheep. i agree tho, nature is trippy all the time

I agree nature is the best way to expierience a trip. In a few weeks im gonna check out carlsbad caverns and lechugilla cavern. That should be pretty intense being one mile under the earth during a trip. Then to the new mexico mountains

I completely agree, this was the vibe I was getting a lot at this festival I was just at. It was a great time, and the vibes were pretty good but it seemed like they were "trying too hard".

agreed with pretty much everyone so far.

holy mountain is trippy enough sober. i've seen it stoned, but not tripping. i don't think i'd want to see it while tripping. it would either scare the fuck out of me or i'd get the sentiment that this thread is describing.

i've spent more time staring at my stucco ceiling than at milkdrop or anything else meant to "trip you out."

To me, "trippy" describes good artwork, deep thoughts, and sunshine.

And maybe even your physics homework!

Retreat to the forest / jungle and contemplate the fractal character of natural systems.

And Carbon Unit is on to something with his glowworms. I love those little guys when I'm in the altered state.

The very first time I tripped in the early 70's, I happened upon a radio broadcast of an early Firesign Theatre album, but had no idea that it was a my initiation into the bizarre humor radio plays that this comedy group recorded. I somehow thought it was a straight news presentation until I began to have my mind twisted and raped by what I was hearing.

Though their old stuff sounds pretty dated, some of FT's recent material is mindbendingly funny and 'weirdly cool' to listen to while straight never mind altered. (check out some NPR segments they did..archived online) Unique highbrow psychoantics perfect for tripping.

I consider Firesign Theatre to be officially 'trippy'.

ya gotta let the trip take u where it wants to go, while i cant stand to be in a club type setting just out of annoyance, i love raves to thou. but ultimately i have much better trips when i just let everything go and just become dust in the wind. usually involving some crazy ass long walk or some type of activity i never do unless im tripping. but at the same token i from time to time enjoy mundane stuff while tripping, hackysack, sitting around a bomb fire, or even just driving around (driving on the LSD on LSD.) but to each their very much own. while i usually like and get into trippy stuff, the majority of my trips that were truelly magical were just me going with the flow of the trip, running on intuition alone, just trusting the fact that almost every trip if i just run with whatever going on in my head, that everything ends up being great, that said thou yeah dust in the wind is great, but while ur doing this u still got to push on through the trip as well, continually advancing ur surroundings, to the point that ur not gunna sit in some back yard for 6 hours staring at the trippy fence...
