Man Receives 15 Year Sentence For Unweighable Amount Of Crack

Agreed seep, a different lawyer or this happening in a location that wasn't so strict in implementing laws and the guy never does time. In other areas they might have charged him with coke base possession for the entire weight of the residue and crack pipe, chore boy and all.

The fact that this is true seems like a violation of the "equal protection" bit in the USA Constitution's 14th Amendment but what can be done?

Section 1 of USA Constitution's 14th Amendment:

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
 
I always laugh when people say they smoke freebase but not crack especially when they say they would never smoke that dirty old crack lol. Sorry fellas but you are smoking crack since you are smoking cocaine base :D . I think the only people that say they freebase are people who are still hung up on the stigma of crack being a ghetto drug for black people which is one of the dumbest stereotypes around. The area i live in is mostly white and lot's of white people here are addicted to crack as well as snorting or IVing coke. In fact it's the most prominant drug in my area i would say.
 
I actually always thought base was different than crack. Thought it was like a liquid or something and not crack rocks or even a powder. Am I just really confused? I mean you end up doing the same thing when smoking it, but it isn't the same thing I thought.
 
At one time in the US, properly-made freebase cocaine was either super expensive or cost exactly the amount of the parent hydrochloride (cuz users would extract their own, with ether).

Then at some point in the early to mid 80s the blacks started selling the baking soda base (buffer base, garbage base or whatever), which not only needed no ether but also dried up with so much extra mass of non-cocaine that it could be sold dirt cheap. The infamous era of the $2 crack vial and such and such.

Note: freebasing coke using KOH is going to lead to rapid hydrolysis of the ester linkages of cocaine, and leaving you with benzoylecgonine (IIRC the methyl ester cleaves first, but I may be mistaken)

Far too strong a base, esters are somewhat touchy in that respect and hydrolyse easily with a strong base, carbonate or bicarbonate is far more suitable.

I call bullshit on those cops. They need to start doing something that actually would do some good. Like arresting the dumb mothers that smoke crack while pregnant making more crackheads.

Freebase cocaine is fun though. A nice toke would wake me up good with this cup of coffee.

I always see people get hit with felony possession for being in the same house as a meth pipe (along with multiple other parties).
Or minor in possession of alcohol for having consumed previously, rather than physical possession.
I guess between the county DDAs and their powerful Legislative friends, you're only safe once the statute of limitations has run out.

Hell, I've been sweating UAs lately, even though I'm not in possession or on probation or anything ... f**kers are getting to me ...
