Bupe Suboxone/Buprenorphine FAQ & Megathread v2; 2010

Well I went to my doctor yesterday and the nurse told me that around the 21st of this month they'll be switching to a new form of suboxone. It's essentially in the same kind of form as those thin lysterine breathe strips, dissolves in about half the time, and is lime flavored. No more shitty orange taste, but unfortunately for those of you who snort them, your kind of screwed. I personally IV them occasionally when I don't want to taste the orange death flavor in the morning, but other than that I don't have any kind of recreational value for them, hopefully with the new form I won't have to deal with nasty pill filler going in my veins, since they seem to think the naloxene prevents you from IVing them. I wish I could actually get high off them here n there.

I couldn't find anything about it on the internet, any of you guys who are on suboxone heard about this from your doctor?

edit: here we go

Haha I hate to tell you but that shitty orange taste is technically "lemmon lime" so it will taste exactly the same I bet.

I snort really mainly because Sublingually is inefficient in the amount that gets washed away in saliva. If these strips work very well, they actually might not be so bad. I bet you'll absorb a much higher percentage with this strip than you would with a whole Suboxone taken sublingually, but here's the thing: I have noticed that if a Suboxone pill is at all crushed or broken up, the citric acid will stimulate saliva almost instantly and this will wash much of the pill away.

If this new system works properly, it might actually be a godsend for the nasal passages of us snorters! (Wishful thinking, perhaps, but it seems entirely possible...) The sublingual route absorbs just as quickly as the nasal membranes IME, so if they perfected the efficiency then more power to them! My hopes are really up for these strips as logically, I think they should be far superior at sublingual delivery, which would hopefully eliminate the need for many of us snorting in the first place!

Yep, I was going to say that. I think people associate the orange color with orange flavor. I bet the strips will be the same shitty lemon-lime flavor.

I'm finally going to begin kicking this shitty hydrocodone/oxycodone habit tommorow.

Will be starting Suboxone. My doctor wants to see me 2 days in a row, he says to get dosage adjusted right, is this what doctors usually do in Suboxone patients?

Also, will it be OK to take Tramadol before I start the Suboxone? Like within the 12-24 hour period I'm supposed to be in withdrawals? Say my appointment is at 3:00pm tommorow, would it be OK to take my usual tramadol tonight?

Yeah, you get a little from the doctor the first day, you show back up, and he gives you a month's prescription. Totally normal. :)

Please don't take tramadol before you start Suboxone. The two can work OK together but I really don't suggest doing this. Some people have negative reactions to Suboxone, and if you do, you don't want extra drugs complicating this situation. Also, you want to be in full withdrawal, so that the doctor can qualitatively see that you are in need of Suboxone. If he doesn't think you're in withdrawal, or if it isn't bad enough, he may not dose you properly, which may hinder the treatment process.

Save the tramadol for tapering off of Suboxone. :)

wait, i think i heard this somewhere else as well, tramadol can actually be felt while on suboxone??? please do elaborate.

if u have a low tolerance to opiates..yeah you can feel tramadol a little, and peple take it before suboxone, after suboxone, vice versa etc... and it doesn;t seem to interfere

My experience iwth it was I was off everythign for 2 days ,then on sub, then every day I would take sub in morning and tramadol then my sub dose at night, repeat every day (except the days doing dope lol).

about urinary retention.. i still have it and i got on it 3+ yrs ago and it never went away.. it sucks especially when they try to drug test you for the cops or probation or something.. they think you're not peeing on purpose cuz you're dirty lol

hehe ya i guess i never thought of it that way. lol not to mention its WAY harder to pee next to somebody for me now to for some weird reason. lol so the guys lookin and waitin for me to pee in the cup, and it took two hours of drinking water and having to go so bad that it finally was impossible for me not to pee :D

I did hear of this type of sublingual listerene thing for some opiod users who volunteered to take it. they said it didnt dissolve any faster and that it was about the same as a regular pill. god i hope my doctor dosent hear about this she might wanna prescribe it to me :(

dude for me tramadol with suboxone was as about as good as it gets for me getting euphoria and anasgelisia. was fucken awsome. when i took them together It was really a pleasant time the only downer was when the effects went away from the tramadol. is tramadol OTC? i doubt it I remember a couple years ago it wasnt on any legal status but i bet thats long gone.

I still dont understand why people say suboxone dosent make them euphoric or happy like other opiates. hell before suboxone I took tramadol a few times and got no effects. but my first 8 mg suboxone was better than heroin, codeine, vicodin, oxycodone. the euphoria and analgesia was alot stronger and longer lasting than all those other opiates listed. hell and i dont think I was opiate niave etheir since i was using everyday 6-10 10mg vicodin pills perday but who knows . just dont tell doctors that I said that. or theyll stop prescribing it to people because it theyll think it makes people feel good :)

Strips have shipped!

Oh, believe me -- He's heard about it.

I got an email yesterday (as many of you probably did) from RB specifically urging me to ask my Dr. about the new strips.

It said:

Introducing SUBOXONE Film, an innovation in treatment experience and convenience for people dealing with opioid dependence.

Make SUBOXONE Film part of your treatment!

If you're working to overcome opioid dependence, you know the experience can sometimes be overwhelming. If you're like some patients, even taking SUBOXONE® (buprenorphine and naloxone) sublingual tablets (CIII) can feel like a challenge due to the time the tablets take to dissolve, the difficulty of traveling with them, and their taste.

SUBOXONE Film is a new formulation of SUBOXONE that may improve your daily treatment experience. And clinical trial patients tell us they prefer SUBOXONE Film to the SUBOXONE Tablet."

SUBOXONE Film delivers:

An evolved patient experience*

- Faster to dissolve than SUBOXONE Tablet

- A favorable taste rating (more than 71% of patients scored the taste as neutral or better)

- Individually wrapped in compact unit-dose pouches that are child-resistant† and easy to carry

- Once-daily dosing (just like the SUBOXONE Tablet)

The patch is next, I'm sure..

Should be interesting to see what can be done with these new strips.

I have a Sub appt. this afternoon... I doubt he'll mention it this appt, but I'll betcha by the next appt. he'll be pushing it.

here in NY, never heard of it, and havent been mentioned by my SUB doctor, and correct me if im wrong, but doesnt the FDA have to wait 7 years to bring a generic form of any drug to the market? i first heard of SUBOXONE in 2004....who knows could of been out longer, i'd be a taker in these new strips instead of a hexagonal tablet,

Thanks for your response Captain.Heroin.

I held off yesterday on the tramadol, I took my first dose about an hour ago, and so far I'm feeling pretty much baseline with what seems to be the pain killing effect of a very weak opiate. This is just with 2mg to start, the Dr. told me to redose in 2 hours if it wasn't completely alleviating symptoms.

Just got back from my monthly Sub. doc visit. Not a mention of the strips, and I sure wasn't going to bring it up.

This was in the email from RB as well:

Watch for an alert when SUBOXONE Film is available in pharmacies—and learn how you can save!

QUESTION - I have been insufflating 1.5-2MG Suboxone (lines, one 8MG Sub broken into eight equal amounts) for several months. Over the last two days I've only been taking a little piece of a line in the morning and @ night.

Right now I'm in pain from a chronic condition that I aggravated about a week ago... Motrin and Flexeril isn't even touching it.

Anyways, I've had thirty 10MG 'dones sitting around for MANY months and am in pain and want to use them up.

What would be a good dose to start at?

Since I've only got thirty I want to get 'em gone fast and have fun doing it. ;) (plus, hopefully I'll get a little relief!)

I've seen the eqiv charts, etc. but some real world experience would be nice.

Thanks!

Regarding the Suboxone Film

I talked to my doc and he was really excited that they'd be coming out with these. He actually gave me a "test strip," essentially what the film will be like without any active drug on it.

I had a dry mouth because I had a cigarette before I came in and it took me about one minute to let it dissolve. It dissolves super fast, my doc said he tried the test strips and it took him 14 seconds. Anyone who says they won't dissolve any faster than the pills is misinformed.

The taste of the test strips was actually not bad, definitely sweeter than the pills. Apparently the 'live' strips with the bupe on them should taste and work exactly the same.

I'll be getting them on the 20th of this month. I'll post pics and a report then. =D

wait, i think i heard this somewhere else as well, tramadol can actually be felt while on suboxone??? please do elaborate.

I have never done tramadol while on buprenorphine so I can't comment, but it's compatible with buprenorphine so that precipitated withdrawal isn't going to happen.

The patch is next, I'm sure..

Not for ORT patients, it's only approved for pain management.

I'll be getting them on the 20th of this month. I'll post pics and a report then. =D

Try and find out the inactive ingredients if you are going to get them.

Your not alone. It can be 95 degrees out and once I start to sweat I get chilled real easy, but before opiates I had never had that issue. Now if I take large dose's of opiates cold weather is no bother at all.

I find opiates do tweak my thermal regulation.

question for people who have been on long-term BMT:

do you get frequent chills and are more sensitive to coldness in the outdoors, shower, etc?

for me, unless i wait and/or take a larger dose than normal (within reason), i feel chills/cold frequently. i am curious if this is connected to my long-term BMT or some other issue (hypothyroid, FI). the reason i ask is because it mimics the actual chills/goosebumps during acute withdrawal.

Yeah. It's probably dose dependent though as I notice myself having less chills now than I once did.

anyone else experience this, or not experience it for long-term BMT?

this is the proper venue for this question, right? i suppose it's harm reduction in the sense that if this is a "side-effect" of BMT, people could weigh this negative in when making decisions about opiate dependency therapy, etc.
Yeah, this would be the best place to ask. A lot of the community that has questions/comments about Suboxone/Subutex/BMT come here to talk about it. :)

You'll get more answers as time goes on. I am sure others will have something to say about this. :)

I really dislike the chills myself.

So no one ever answered my question on bupe equivalency. At low doses of 1-2mg how much oxy, hydromorph, heroin, etc is it equal to? After a week binge how long would I have to wait to use bupe recreationally?
