The pits of hell
Opana works great for my pain. However the constipation is fucking ridiculous. My only other choice is OxyContin. What will the analgesic differences be? The Opana has made me literally pain free... aside from the constipation which has been BAD it's a GREAT medication. I have tried every laxative on the market. Any suggestions on what I can do or would switching to OxyContin be my best bet?

Are the new OxyContins gonna be "weaker"? Due to the changes? Or will the generics be good? What is the best generic? Any help would be greatly appretiated.

I'm sure if you give your body more time to adjust to the Opana the constipation will get better.

Try using some stool softeners and possibly a laxative if necessary.

I have used every laxative under the sun.... and stool softners... mineral oil... milk of magnesia.. all of it... I am naturally prone to constipation anyways.

When I was just on Oxycodone all I had to do was eat 3 fiber one bars a day and everything was golden.. this is a whole new ball game. I even had to give myself an enema.. ugh... sorry for the TMI. It's just horrible... I am bummed cause it works so well for me.

Go to the OxyContin, and don't worry. Opana (oxymorphone), is just the primary metabolite of oxycodone.

Yea this is what I was thinking. My constipation is less on Oxycodone for some reason anyways so it seems like the logical step! Like I said in my previous post I am just bummed because the Opana made me almost pain free which was wonderful!

you would think being completely pain free would be worth some constipation seeing as how you're gonna have it either way with opiates.

Miralax? Good 'ol prunes?

If opana constipates you then oxy might end up doing the same thing. Have you tried an herbal laxitive or stool softener? Subs constipate me worse than any other opiate... a little colace and some senna and after a few days I was about five pounds lighter lol.

What kind of things do you eat? I have always found raisin bran in the morning and two or three pieces of fruit during the day to be better than any laxative, stool softener, whatever. I have turned other people on to the fruit and raisin bran and it has worked for them too. Try it out, and I think you will be surprised something this simple can do what a whole lot of medicines/products cannot.

I eat pretty healthy. I want to keep all the weight I lost off. I eat fiber bars as snacks, fruits, flax seed kashi go lean honey oats almond crunch cereal. Fish, veggies, chicken breast.. Alot of water.. I drink alot of coffee and I have to have one Mt dew a day just to keep my soda/caffeine addiction at bay.. Often times I have to force myself too eat because my meds make me not hungry...

I will gladly try raisin bran, how many bowls do you suggest?

Thanks alot, I will grab a box or two today while I am shopping.

Most laxatives work on the principle of drawing water into the intestines. For those with opioid-induced constipation, these ususally won't work because water isnt the problem, its intestinal motility (ie the peristaltic movements of muscles in the intestines that move waste forward.)

The best remedy I've found for this is to take a dose of Caffeine and ephedrine every few days. 200mg caffeine+20mg ephedrine in the morning, another identical dose in the afternoon. Gets things moving right along. (Take into consideration, of course, any medical conditions you have. These are stimulants so it would be a good idea to OK trying this with your doc.)

Combine this with a mineral oil enema for the first few times and you should be well on your way.

I just eat one large bowl in the morning every morning. When I say large bowl I mean probably 3 servings according to the guidelines on the box. Just make sure you give it about a week to ten days to get you regular again. I should add that nobody I know is taking anything as powerful as Opana, but I still hope this works for you.

I love your SN =D

If you are on pain meds for chronic pain which exercise might worsen, then this suggestion may be problematic. Walking is one of the best laxatives I know of. The problem with caffeine is that it is a diuretic which makes you loose water and can make your stool too dry. Lots of water and fruit, along with your high fiber grains (I make my own whole wheat/flax seed meal bread) and a 20-30 min. walk should help tremendously. The walk can be somewhat leisurely also; you don't have to power walk or break any speed limits. The walking assists and stimulates bowel motility and, if you can do it, it works great!

Thanks so much for your post. I was told to not exercise but I do walk as much as I can because I don't want to regain weight I already lost. The worst part of it is I am naturally prone to constipation without opiates.. I have upped my water intake, been walking more, eating more fiber bars ect and it seems to be working.

I see flax seed oil and flax seeds in the vitamin part of the grocery store. I want to add them to my dietary regimen. Bread sounds like a good way. Would you mind pming me your recipe?

Thank you so much!

Vio let your BF fuck you in the ass... that might help with the constipation!!! haha sorry im buzzing and wanted to say that. Ya that sucks alot because i know how much the Opana was helping you pain wise. GL
