Benzos First ever black out from benzos, fell down the stairs...

Yesterday I was feeling very anxious about something stupid and I couldn't stand it anymore. Normally I like to try and deal with this kind of thing naturally, but fuck it, I decided to take 2mg clonazepam to calm my nerves, and a beer. It should also be noted I took 400mg cemitidine not long before due to slight stomach nausea. Normally, benzos do absolutely nothing to me, or at least I feel nothing, so I figured a little potenitation couldn't hurt either. I also had a small glass of GFJ. All of this is nothing I haven't done before.

I go about the day, starting to feel a little less anxious, having a good time, hanging with friends at my house. I run upstairs to grab a few beers, and on my usual 100mph double step down the stairs to the basement, i somehow tripped and went flying face first down the stairs to the floor, busting the beer bottles everywhere. I felt like a dumbass, worried the shit out of everyone else, but the night continued.

I don't remember nearly anything after the fall. The were pictures taken that night that I was in (and looking at the camera) and I don't remember taking them. I do remember feeling fine, soberish, and focused after the fall, no problems at all besides a little rug burn. The next day I woke up to my gf informing me of things I did that I don't remember, an ambien that I crushed up and snorted, and not 30 seconds later passed out in bed. I barely remember that too.

My first blame is the fact that when I snorted the ambien (fucking dumb idea...), it was poteniated greatly by the kpin and cemitidine. I figure after the ambien, that's when said memory wipe took place. however, before I did that, my gf said I was all slurring words, saying weird shit that didn't make sense, acting funny, and I don't remember any of this. It should also be noticed I've snorted up to 40mg ambien with NO memory loss and not much of a buzz either.

Second guess is maybe when I fell I hit my head so hard that I had a minor concussion.

Lastly I figured I'd mention I rolled on MDA on Friday, this took place on Monday. I highly doubt it had anything to do with it, but I'm just going to mention it.

Thoughts? I asked my roomies and gf if I did anything dumb and they said no, you simply looked like you were messed up and having fun. I didn't feel messed up though!! Not very! :!

Combining gabaergics like that can have that sort of effect, including the amnesia. Sorry to hear you hit your head going down the stairs. That sucks.

But yes, many people have experienced amnesia after having benzos and alcohol (with or without Z drugs in the mix too).

Benzos + alcohol + a good wallop to the head = black out. Alcohol and benzos were most likely the problem, the blow to the head could have helped to repress memories, but the drugs are most likely the main issue. I have had many nights on xanax and liqour that are completely blocked out of my head. I hate it, that feeling. I don't really drink anymore and nor do I enjoy benzos mainly for that reason.

Thanks.

Yeah I have found a new respect for this drug which I used to think was useless. I feel like I understand it's effects a little better now.

My head feels fine today, just the damn rug burn on my elbow and knee. :(

Thanks for the responses.

This is really just a semantic differentiation, but what he experienced wasn't memory repression, it was anterograde amnesia (inability to *make* new memories after an event... Or in this case, drug/alcohol consumption).

In contrast, repressed memories occur when someone does form the memory but blocks it from conscious recognition to spare the psyche the pain of reliving the event... This is found in victims of rap or child molestation, domestic violence, terrorism, war, etc.

As much as one can gain an amusing feeling from, I despise benzos and consider it 2nd class to use them, as posted your memories of things and feelings of self are altered in a very negative way.

Also the addiction is from what I read, sounds like one of the worst things ever that someone could ever experience

Is there anything benzos do beside knock you out that opiates don't do better?

Benzos have their purposes. Also, benzos don't have all these negative effects in themselves in medicinal dosages. Drinking on benzos is very reckless.

This thread made me cringe, I almost lost my father earlier this year to circumstances like these. It was early in the morning and he had done >5mgs of ativan the night before. He left his room and went down 3 or so steps before he remembered he needed his cigarettes from his room, he turned to go back and fell backwards down his staircase fracturing his skull 3 times on the way down. I guess the only morale to the story is if you plan to get benzo'd out and you live in a 2 story house, ROPE THOSE FUCKING STEPS OFF and spend the night down stairs. Anywho, sorry to hear about your mishap but glad to hear you got off so easy, the good lord musta had a hand on your shoulder

@Oh ROXIanne - That is very chilling. I assure you, I'm not going to make this mistake again.

@highonlife40 - First off, awesome alias. Best drug out there IMO. Also,
...This is found in victims of rap or child molestation, domestic violence, terrorism, war, etc.

Obviously a typo, but quite appropriate and made me laugh. :P

Thanks for the HR advice all. I consider myself a smart person who learns from mistakes. I will be extremely careful with benzos from now on.

Sometimes when i take small doses of benzos i dont really feel that messed up. i dont remember things the next day. However we all have to remember the benzos have very diverse effects on many different people. Some are more susceptible to the chemical than others. Glad to hear you are ok after your ordeal.

yea you dont wanna fuck with benzos....as long as you know your tolerance though, you should be fine(atleast if you dont mix them with alcohol or other related drugs).

This is because of the tolerance of benzos rising SOOOO fast...I doubt I could OD on benzos, or even black out, even if I tried as hard as I could. Thats because ive been prescribed them for several months now, and even when I take SEVERAL times my dose, I barely feel anythign, let alone black outs and severe memory loss.

Just be careful and dont mix your benzos.....if you dont mix, youll be left to enjoy a nice relaxing drug which can make your days/nights much more bearable....allthough in the long run its best to be clean of benzos as they have wicked withdrawals and its sad/depressing/and dangerous to depend on a drug to keep you from going crazy every day.

I once had a friend who HAD to take atleast 4 mg's of xanax(usually alot more) EVERY DAY(self-medicated for the most part) or he would be plagued with thoughts of killing his annoying co-workers and thoughts of severe social anxiety(even though he was a well adjusted person with plenty of friends, it wasnt like he didnt know how to act in group situations). Its just his mind was very easily annoyed and it was hard for him to control his urges to respond violently to annoyances without alot of benzos in his system. Allthough, when he did have his benzos, he was a real nice guy.

Alcohol ALWAYS makes benzodiazepine intoxication more pronounced, or the other way around, or both..... I can't remember, i was blacked out.
But seriously in the future if you don't have a benzo tolerance you should avoid booze..... one time i fell down a flight of stairs twisted on xanax and booze.....had a friend fall down the same flight about a month later on the same combo. Goes to show you might not realize it but your coordination is fucked on benzo booze combos.

I agree. Anytime I hear someone listening to rap I always offer a couple benzos in hopes they will recover from the trauma caused.

You mixed benzos with alcohol....

Of course you blacked out.

Its like....people have heard it a billion times, but they somehow are surprised when it happenes.

yeah, alcohol + benzos was definitely the case. the combination can cause SERIOUS blackouts.

last weekend I spent $120 to get into a festival; the last thing I remember was popping a clonazepam 1mg and cracking a beer. after that, the first thing in my memory (besides a 4 minute period in which one of my favourite artists introduced himself) was waking up on monday morning (2 days later...)

apparently I'd been running around partying my ass off, dragging girls around, popping clonazepam pills like they were vitamins. now there's about a dozen pictures of me with ornate patterns drawn all over my face.

Even just ambien and alc results in memory loss for me a lot of the time. I usually remember part of the night thinking nothing went down then hear about the other half of the night I didn't know about.

Thanks.

Yeah I have found a new respect for this drug which I used to think was useless. I feel like I understand it's effects a little better now.

I'm hearing you mate.

I've done drugs for many years..... acid, amphetamines, cannabis, E, mephedrone etc etc...basically everything except hard opies & crack.

But benzo's are something else, especially phenazepam.

I got a bit cocky, thought I knew the score & mixed phenaz with alcohol & other benzo's. The details of what happened next I've posted elsewhere so I won't go into details, suffice to say I lost 6 weeks of memory except for a few snippets, & pissed lots of people off...

Lesson learned. Benzo abuse, mixing with alcohol /other things is bad news & bigger than I am. First time I've lost control on a drug/s, & mixing phenaz with booze etc has fucked this year up for me, seriously.

I think black outs are always fun =) I always loved pondering how I ended up in this chicks bed... to bad my tolerance is too high so those days of not really remembering what took place the night before are gone..ugh...good times.

I had similar an accident with ativan + alcohol. I fell down the stairs at my friends party; next thing I remember is that i'm on couch and people in circle around me try to wake me up :D

One of the first times that I took phenazepam I way overshot the dosage (what a surprise, right?) and after sleeping for 15 hours or so I wandered downstairs, grabbed something to drink, and started my way back upstairs. I somehow fell backwards down them and landed on a large eagle statue at the base of the steps. I broke the statue and somehow tore a large hole in the drywall. I ended up in the ER... not fun.
