u know how tired and out of it u feel when waking up at 6am when u went to bed at 1am. i want to feel like that when im trying to go to sleep that would be really relaxing. ive taken ambien and a benzo simultaneously, and while i felt relaxed i didnt feel anything close to that groggy morning feeling.

There have been a plethora of Ambien/benzo/sleep threads lately but I'll give my speech again;

Ambien affects different people differently so it might just not work for you. If you want to go the Rx route there are plenty of other ambien-type drugs, Lunesta and Sonata come to mind as Z-drugs (nonbenzodiazapines) where as Temazepam comes to mind as the main hypnotic benzo.

There are lots of OTC things that may work but should not be used daily as they will only prolong an insomnia problem not fix it. Look at diphenhydramine, and doxyl amine succinate

There are plenty of Herbal remedies that have varying effects:
Melatonin - helps in resetting sleep schedules, is NOT a sedative
Valerian - mild relaxing / sedating effects
Kava - same as valerian
Chamomile*
Lemon Grass*
Lemon Balm*
Orange Blossom*
Spearmint*
etc*
* Found in various herbal teas to promote rest and relaxation, labeled as 'sleepytime' teas
I find that they help but it is more of a psychological thing I guess, just getting you in the mood to sleep.

There are not on the market some forms of Rx Melatonin-type drugs such as Ramelteon. I believe they were too expensive for me to try when I spoke to a doc/psych about them. I'm a broke grad student who at them time had no health insurance

temazepam, ambien, strong opiates, barbs, valuim, xanax, lunesta, ativan, - all relaxes you to sleep.

seroquel FORCES you to sleep, so that a last resort when you want to be out cold ie. meth, mdma, coke, etc. comedowns.

Temazepam helps me sleep very well. Diphenhydramine works well but gives me a killer headache in the morning. Doxylamine works nicely with no hangover like feeling. All in all I'd say Temazepam works the best.

yes, I was given plenty of IV phenergan in the hospital and let me tell you, it does burn a lot.

you are correct, I'm just saying that is a drug that makesme very sleepy.

Everyone has pretty much listed every drug that can induce sleep. Basically any CNS depressant will sedate you to some degree. However, if you're suffering from insomnia you may be dealing w/ something internal (i.e. grief, depression, anxiety) and may need to look into finding a remedy for that.

can't believe in all these posts i've responded to about sleep issues that I've forgot to mention pot.
I used/use pot for insomnia from time to time, for me it has worked as well as an Rx or OTC treatment but my case isn't exactly normal. As stated above, insomnia can stem form internal/psychological issues so CNS depressants do not cure the underlying problems, only treat symptoms.

If you want a good sleep, my advice is take some valium and as you begin to feel its effects smoke some weed. If I am kind've tired, take 3 valium and smoke 2 bongs it knocks me out easily. Although you may still feel the valium's effects the next day.

15mg Mirtazapine doesn't effect me that much when i first got a script last year, i was on seroquel at the time though so that could have been the reason.
