psilocybe cyanescens

I recently aquired sum psilocybe cyanescens but just want to be sure, does any one know if there are any other mushrooms that look like these that could have gt confused? as not up for ending up in A&E cheers.

(p.s. what are the phenotypes that define the look alikes from each other?) thanks.

If you're not 100% sure of your source and 100% of what you're taking: DON'T TAKE IT. There are a lot of mushrooms that will make you very sick and some that will kill you VERY painfully.

Do you have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galerina that kind of shroom? Are you sure that you don't??

Not saying it's wise to eat mushrooms if you aren't 100% sure they're the right variety - it's certainly quite foolhardy - but p. cyanescens doesn't look much of anything like a galerina. Galerinas don't have wavy caps - they look like cubes, not cyans.

With respect, please refer to this thread on Shroomery, specifically the picture by CureCat, a Shroomery trusted identifier. Both species look similar to me.

That's a picture of P. cyanescens compared to a Tubaria furfuracea, not a galerina. Galerina means 'helmet-like' and AFAIK they always have that cubensis-style domed top. Could be wrong, though, maybe it's possible for galerinas to develop wavy tops in some cases. Tubaria is certainly a more likely culprit, though.

+1,000 Don't take it unless you know what you're taking is not poisonous and you can correctly identify it.

make sure you have the correct type 100% before you take them.

Go to the shroomery and ask questions there and maybe post pics and if they are fresh do a spore print. Some species of psychedelic mushrooms bruise blue like cubes.

OP: did you pick them yourself or get them from someone else? Knowing where they were picked would help narrow down the list of potential lookalikes. You may wanna post over on the Shroomery about it as DrunkardsDream suggested.
